Parchment is Worthless

Thank you ANet for nerfing all farming except for outside droks where people farm their heart out for wood. This has caused the value of parchment to plummet, a rare material that now sells for no more than 60g.
Arcanis the Omnipotent
I agree with the first statement.
Thank you Anet for nerfing farming. Its about time.

farming has not been nerfed, AREAS have been nerfed. Just farm somewhere else. And I thought people went outside droks to farm trolls? Am I wrong? And surely there are easier areas to farm something as simple as wood?
Reaper
I would say this has more to do with the huge amount of players trying for easy money by crafting and selling, which flooded the market, thereby reducing the value. Can't really blame anet for that. And they were doing that well before the farming 'nerf'.
Kakumei
It's called playing the market. Prices rise and fall. You picked an item that just had its price dropped--poor you. You'll survive.

Hell, go farm Charr Hides for a material. Fur Squares always have a constant price due to the fact that people are always buying Ascalon and Fur-lined armors in Ascalon City.

here is my tear '
I found other places to farm since the nerf... move on too many posts like these

If you look at the price of wood that you sell your still making 10 gold making parch.

10 - 20% of the trade chat in Drok's is "WTB all your wood..." and "WTS parchment..." It's been that way for a long, long time. Why? Because people found out how cheap it is to get it crafted and how easy it is to get to the guy outside of Sardelac.
The key is to pay attention to the market & see how the supply/demand balance is. In the case of parchment, the supply is way up - so the prices dropped.

I think barrage + topk did that, usually leave with 200 wood. Count that for all the people doing that and it's a rainforest.

Its kinda like what riverside did to feathers :l

I still can sell parchment pretty easily for 80 gold and hides for 10 gold.
Selling iron or cloth for 10 gold has suddenly gotten hard.

I've got 2500+ wood muled and climbing, just because its not worth selling right now. When I get low on inventory space or if the price jumps, it's gone. The FoW Spider run nets me around 150 wood every 45 min.

Maybe I should stop giving parchment away to people looking to buy a few.
Nah.
Nah.

Parchment is piece of paper.. no wonder its not worth anything now a day.

Then get some glittering dust from your salvages, and have Vellum crafted with the wood and glittering dust.
It is only 20 gold at the crafters that make it, and last I checked it is worth somewhat more than regular old parchment.

Parchment was a nice business a while back, but the secret's out and the party's over. At least wood still has a little value.

To the OP... you haven't looked at parchment prices in a while, have you? These days, if you get 70g from the trader, you're doing well. Has been in its current state for the last month or so. (before augury became unfarmable for bots)
Diablo???
I'm waiting for Vellum to plumet

Vellum already has plummeted. In the last week, I've seen it go from a steady 90g a sheet at the vendor to now you're lucky if you can get 80g. I've seen it as low as 70g. Again, hardly worth the effort, but what do you do with the wood and dust from NUW?
TideSwayer
Maybe if the Parchment artisan wasn't right outside Sardelac Sanitarium there wouldn't be billions of it created every hour? That early in the game, who the hell crafts stuff with their 1-material salvaged drops? Maybe Parchment crafting should be moved further away from town? Yeah, warriors could get there easily enough anyways, but at least it's more work than is required now.
I have no problem selling Parchment for 75g each. Average Drok's price atm seems to be around 80g. It costs 20g to craft one piece, so you're making 55g-60g profit for 5 wood, which equates to 11g-12g per wood piece. HOW IS THAT KILLING THE MARKET? You are getting more for wood than you'd get even selling it standalone. Hell, even if you just merchanted the parchment for 60g each (I never sell to merchant when he's only taking 50g per parchment), that equates to 8g per wood piece, which is a fair price for wood planks IMO.
The one thing people need to realize is that 55 Monk Ascetic armor requires PARCHMENT, so there will always be a need for it. Just as well, I'm glad the wood/parchment market is dying down, because if Troll farming really created that much more money for that ease of farming, then ANet would be forced to nerf it almost immediately, and that's the BEST spot for skill point farming. Let's be honest here - it's easier than Griffin farming because there aren't even any Devourer interrupts to worry about. Plus it's literally right up the hill from Drok's. Yes, some of us care about XP too (I don't even care about the Troll drops), but the amount of XP given out by late-game monsters in a standard 8-man party is pathetic. It takes way too long to get a skillpoint from just actually playing the game, especially compared to the miniscule amount of time it takes to get one from Troll slaughter.
Besides, Troll farming now has more ways to make money. Taking the huge amount of Troll tusks - that merchant for 8g each - up to the collector in Snake Dance and trade 40g worth of tusks for a 125g collector item that you can just sell back. (Aren't you wondering why all of a sudden people in Drok's are now trying to buy your tusks for 20g each? Because for about a minute's worth of running out of Rankor they can make 5g profit off of every one.) Please do not cry to everyone that Troll farming keeps you poor. Be happy that ANet hasn't moved the mob with Avicara Wise (just off to the upper right) onto the hill between Drok's and the Ice Cave yet, or that Siege Golems haven't taken a liking to that hill either.

Personally, I'm a fan of the fact that it costs more to craft Steel Ingots and Linen than it does to buy it.
Maybe the crafters need to learn to the economy.

Can still do other runs, sell other stuff, get lucky. I'm more pissed that I do SF runs so much and get squat nothing for a few days, good thing thats not my only farm.

Saw this coming the minute they(the farmers)moved into Droks, its just WTS wood 10g ea over and over, I met a guy with almost 10,000 wood the other day from troll farming. The thing that makes me the most frustrated is the undercutting, if the merchant wont sell it for less than 140g a roll of parchment, but people are willing to sell it for 70, well they are al leaving a lot of gold on the table, cause if the 'sellers' would use their brains and SET the price a bit higher we all would benifit, the merchant charges 140, I think I deserve to get 100 for it theres no reason the market cannot bear this out. Will this ever happen, NOT LIKELY, I aint playing the parchment game no more, but it was good for a while.
No shit eh, its crazy that it costs more to craft most of the higher end stuff than it does to outright buy it, arrrggghhhh whats a GW player to do, the economy sucks, bots and meatball farmers, who just need more and more and more gold for who knows what, I guess they have a nice collection of screeenshots of their bank roll, FoW armor, big yippee, please hurry up and move on to some other game, I hear DDO is great for making lots of gold, they have a whole new crop of bright and shiny things for all the farmers to lust after. Please move on.

just ID and sell the drops. i used to make parchment and vellum but i only do vellum now on the occasion that i have dust lying around.

Parchement has dropped because of the "new" tombs, not because of troll farming. A lot of raven staffs drop there which salvage for 8-12 wood each.

TOPK introduced me to the wonderful world of parchment making. All that wood! Had to do something with it.
