Should I wait for Factions?
Tok
Hello, i've found Guild Wars for sale at a really cheap price and ordered it just now. But then after reading into it a bit, i found out that GW Factions is a Standalone Game.
I assume that only the single player campaign will be missing if I just buy Factions, or am I wrong? Basically should I cancel my order and wait for Factions or will the original game bring me some nice extras worth £17.99 or so?
Reply ASAP please, my cancellation time is counting down!
Thanks

Man, well, I would get both. 17 pounds, that's like $30 American?
Advantage of both: you'd have access to all skills and armor, and the Prophecy campaign (original GW) is fun. Oh, yeah, and you'd be able to play GW while waiting for Factions...
However, if Money is of great concern, maybe just get one to try out before you get both...

I'd get both personally. While the second game is standalone, there's something to be gained by having both games on the account.
Since you've gotten the original at a cheap price, I would stick with that.. and if you like the game, go ahead and get factions too. But it might not be your type of game and better to learn that by getting the cheaper of the two.
If you're into the RP story, then it's probably better to start from the beginning as well.

"Special Features
In addition to an exclusive brand-new exquisite 72-page book filled with never-before-seen artwork, a map of the game world, combined manual and story book, and 30 minutes of new music written exclusively for this release, the Guild Wars Special Edition will also include a key that provides the player with a limited number of skill and item unlocks, which can be applied to an existing account or act as a fast-start package for a beginner."

What Rey Lentless said. *nods*

They say it will be standalone and Prophecies only players will NOT be at a disadvantage...but that is not true. A player who has both versions can play w/ all the sets of armor and have access to ALL the skills, which is a huge skill list if you have both.
BUT, if you are short on money, get Factions. It will have 8 classes available to you instead of Prophecies, which just has the 6 core classes. Plus, if you get Factions and start an Assasin or Ritualist and you are still a newb, people won't care because nobody will be that good w/ those classes in the very beginning.

Cancel it. Factions is supposed to be a much better game that's more refined and has more gaming options. You also get a key to run a trial of Ch. 1, if you're so inclined, from buying Factions.
Also, keep in mind the price of Ch. 1 is only going to go down.

I decided to cancel, so I tried to send an email to cancel - but I got a feeling I sent it to the wrong address. So I don't mind getting part one as well if the cancellation doesn't work.
I was thinking about playing some version of an assassin because everyone will be bad with them, but I want to play the underplayed professions (I always play the most unused ones) and I assume Assassin will be the most popular of all professions in a short while.
Thanks for all your advice!
(PS: which is the most underplayed profession combo? I like the sound of Necro/Mesmer but it seems like a logical combination :P)

Meh... I'd still get both. Money shouldn't be a concern, because Factions doesn't come out for another month anyway. Plus, I would recommend Prophecies to anybody who could try it, even for $50. There's a lot of gameplay possible.
Too bad I missed the imaginary deadline on this.

It all boils down to how much money your willing to spend. If you can afford both, then get both. Theres a solid 6 months of game play in the original Guild Wars before you start running out of content, and even then you can always find things to do. I personally like to start games from their beginning because I feel left out if I start in the middle.
By the way, there is no single player campaign. Both chapter 1 & 2 are massive multiplayer online games only that require an internet connection to play. Free to play of course.

also since you have 4 slots you can try many different primary/secondary sets in a relatively short time before going on to the actual game.
find some combo that strikes your fancy and keep that and also try the very common warrior/monk as that is the easiest to start with due to its better armor.
do it for the fun of it since the balance is good and there is not one class that will always beat another all the time

Do you mean you missed the deadline to cancel the order? That's good for you. You won't be regreted to play Guild wars for a month before Factions coming out. You will have more skills, more armor, more options and more things to do when you combine both chapters. You can bring your characters to Factions campaign and continue to play after release and avoid the early rushes of Assassins and Ritualists.
As for your question (which is the most underplayed profession combo?), it's definitely Mesmer in PvE, you would have a hard time getting into groups. In PvP, there is no underplayed profession, every profession has its nitch.

If Guild Wars arrives then good for you, i will keep you busy until factions its out plus u can take part in the Guild Wars Faction without needing to do anything special, just log in that’s all.
Either way have fun with GW or factions or better with both.
Raxxman
yeah see we can't really comment on factions, we've had glimpses of it but no game time.
however we can all say GW is very good.

Depends on what game style you like more:
If your into PvE Chapter one is better and will have more to offer.
Chapter two (Factions) is very much more PvP based.
I would read up on each before buying either as each is very different.
gamingsteve.com has an interview from one of the devs about Factions and that is where I get the info. I would go check out the interview before purchasing Factions though... unless you like PvP.
