True, any action a human can take in the game, a bot could take.

Although I suppose that means that bot-testing could be automated too.

Perhaps a more effective way would be to crack down on the ebaying. Yeah, I know about the "I don't sell gold/items, I sell the time needed to farm them" excuse, but I'm not sure it'd stand up in court, and e.g. Blizzard sure should have the resources to have it tested.

For the tiny amount of profit they are making off GW gold/items sold for real money? I can hardly believe sweat shop owners would invest in all the computers/internet connections over something like child labor or anything else, just to get a few bucks a day. Doesn't seem likely, but bot programs built for farming does.
really? check this out, its Chinese Gold Farmers Preview

This thread provides an interesting read
I wonder though...
Have you ever registered an email address, or went to log on to a site, and you have to verify a randomly generated string of numbers?
Those are simple enough and seem to successfully stop bots from creating dummy accounts for the most part
What if they set something up like that, say...every time you leave an outpost?
It would be only a minor inconvenience for human players and a huge pain in the ass for the bot programmers
Well, I know literally nothing about programming, or bots for that matter...
Could this work? How hard would it be to implement?

The effectiveness would be determined by how many of the accounts aren't legitimate (which I personally think most are).

Perhaps I wasnt conveying my thought clearly
What I was getting at was have Anet put these verifications in-game everytime you leave a town
E.g.
You load in Drok's and go to leave out Talus Chute and instead of exiting freely you now have to type in the randomly generated string of 6 or 7 characters to exit
Granted it's not going to stop the sweatshop workers but is there anyway for a bot itself to get around that?
I dont know...Just brainstorming
This whole bot/sweatshop worker really pisses me off knowing that I have to work my ass off to get a few K

No, you were clear enough...I just didn't comprehend well enough

Anyway, I don't think anyone would like something like that - not only would it be a pain to have to do, but imagine the overhead on the servers having to be generating new codes for every player each time they leave an outpost.

um..only allow players to exit bot or swetshop farmer areas with more than one player?
includes having henches or other players?

or are they now exiting droks in pairs, like coppers?

You think so? You may be right about the server load but after reading through this thread alone, it seems like most people would be willing to do almost anything (except pay a monthly fee ) to keep these bots from being effective - I know I would

Most people judge that the monks they see in the international districts are bots simply on the basis that they speak a language based in Asia. There are always a good 50+ W/mo in 15k Gladiator's armor hanging around LA AD1, they must be botters (or slaves) too, right? Oh, wait, they speak English.

"Hacks"? "Cheats"? What?

The truth is that if people did not buy the gold/item on Ebay then the bots would be out of business.

Quoted for truth. THANK GOD someone else finally makes the underlying connection. Chalk up one point for yourself, sir. You can't support real-world economy if you don't have influx of purchase.

Well, if you really want to mess with the bots: just move the portal around a bit every couple of days. Just randomly put it in a different spot on the same wall, far enough from the original to confuse the 'ol bots. You'll have a clump of them stuck up against where the old portal used to be ... and then the dev or GM, from his viewpoint atop the highest cloud in the sky, can gaze down and smite the would-be offenders all at once, now that they are conveniently grouped together like so many lemmings

its catch 22, anet nerf skills and kill farming for the honest farmer and that farmer then feels the need to then go to ebay for his gold

even so, gold just isnt that important in this game as theres nothing worth saving or building towards. there really is no long term goal in this game and thats why people get so bored of it so quickly

don't ban the E-bay sellers,...

ban the ebay-BUYERS

.

edit: seriously, if you want someone to stop doing something, destroy the reason he has to do it.
Want to stop some guy from stealing and eating the candy? Poison the candy.
