Is buying unid worth it?
[DE]
I see tons of people trying to sell gold fellblades and such that are unid. Is it worth it to buy one? How many of the items usually turn out with perfect mods. I'm interested in maybe trying my luck at buying a few but first I want to know the odds. So if anyone could help me out, that'd be great.

Sure if your not afraid of getting +10% more damage to Charr. Maybe Trolls sometimes if your lucky . Its a big rick as gold Fellblades aren't cheap.

Buying Unided is even more stupid now because people who were hording gold unided req 8 fellblades etc ided them all before the roll-back so know exactly what it is they have.
Just Another Dude
It used to be nice, just another gamble, but now with all the freakin bots testing everything, I think its much riskier and not worth it... Every now and then maybe... but generally no.
Lord Valkyr
I think it was worth it before people figured out how to find out what the mods are without ID'ing the item. Anyone selling unID'd items probably has tested them and is only selling them because they have crap mods.

Sometimes you can get lucky.
For example, today I bought a fellblade in Droknars International district 1 for 25k. What came out is now in an auction:

Good luck with un-ids :-)

I don't think it's really worth it unless maybe you're interested in unlocking things perhaps. I once bought a gold unid eternal shield from somebody for 15k, ided it and it turned out to only have a +22 health health (while in stance) on it, which was worse than my crimson carapice shield I got in the desert. Unless maybe I care more about appearance, which I don't, it would of been worth it I guess. Haven't bought any unid items since then.
Wasabi
sometimes its worth but most likely not. i say like 25% chance of getting someting good. If you want a chance of having the perfect weapon and dont want to spend tons of money then go ahead and buy one. im just saying that it would suck to try and buy the perfect item and then find out its a crappy item.
Diablo???
Never had enough luck to id a good item, so much money wasted

I go to the internatinol districts and i see people come up to me and open the trade window with a fire wands, unid fellblade's etc and they keep repeating 70k ok? 70k ok? you buy? you buy? i find it kinda sad that they do that all day.. lo

I ain't worth it. You might ask why? Plain and simple: what you hope to get is a damage mod (swords, axes, bows). And that can be tested. And it's quite easy. Someone started a thread on this some time ago, but he edited his post removing all the info. Like we all are morons and can't figure it out, huh?
Just think about it. Usually what chinese farmers, greedy scammers, etc... sell are unid axes, swords and bows. Why? Becuase is the only mod you can test for and be 90% sure if the item is worth identifying or not. Health mods can't be tested. Zealous mods can be. And i`m not sure, but i think +energy mods on staff also have effect before a weapon is identified.
Just make some test, you`ll see how things work.
And again: NO, don't buy unid items, unless you're pritty sure the ovner couldn't test the mods.

Before you go on a un-ID shopping spree, just think about this: how many times have you got excited when seeing a gold item drop, only to ID it as a Summit Axe of Pruning or something?
The vast majority of un-ID'd items are likely to be the kind of turds which you'll have to sell to a merchant because no-one in their right mind would want to buy one knowing the stats.
In the wise words of Harry Callahan, "Do you feel lucky?"

i can just agree with a lot of posts in here: most times (>80%) the seller will have tested the weapon - so forget about getting fortitude mods that are halfway decent - but somehow that is a chance as well: cause gold items will modz likely have 2 mods, and if they aren't obvious upgrades they might be nice damage mods -- but! with a halfdecent collection of uncustomized weapons you can figure those out as well... so in the end you have a crappy gold item and by buying from our "friends" in drognars forge int1 you will just supply the ebay-industry with some more money to sell...
buying unid weapons is gambling - but the odds aren't working for you at all.

I hate it all to hell when peole have tested weapons and they dont like them so they try to sell them "ID" already at UnID'd prices (Or more) and people get screwed over, which makes me as a UnID Seller (IE: Shadow Staff with req. 8 for example) look like I'm trying to cheat someone.

those sellers all test their unided items. they will sell what's crappy only

And, I only sell best items. Like a Shadow Staff at Req. 8 Domination for example. I wont sell anything past 10 and usually ID it my self and slavage if I'm forunate
Misa
I am not a fan for un-id weapons but I do buy un-id runes.
snapp
I learned my lesson buying 200k worth of unided longswords and tallshields, I probably got about 20k worth of crap....damn I love to gamble

lol my monk caries one LOL

i perosnally think they chinese sellers of unided items are the most honest.. as they just want the money. unlike greedy americans which test and then sell for high prices because they are money hungry.

Easiest fix in the world would be for an un-ID'ed weapon to have absolutely no effect whatsoever when equipped, other than its stated damage. Then people would be scared NOT to ID it for fear of missing out on a great mod. I don't care for scammers, and yet people spend much too great a part of their time searching for ways to cheat someone else.
Sir Skullcrasher
Or a better idea..take out this unid system and make all the drops (weapons, armors) show what it has. That way, players don't need to spend money for ID kits, Salvage Kits and don't need to worry about if its worth by a Gold Req 7 Chaos Axe and it only have crappy mods on it.

damn i never knew items could be tested heh.
i never buy unid items because when i want to get something in particular, i just get it.
if i dont have enough gold for (IE) a fellblade max everything i just spend a lil time in the underworld and sooner or later ill have enough gold to get it. ive noticed people who buy alot of unid items are a little anxious and are usually the ones who end up paying 15k for (IE)wroths icon because they had to have it right then.

It's the same as buying lottery tickets. Overwhelming chance you'll lose your money but hey.....you never know. Some people just can't help themselves, others think God will give them a perfect fellblade.

As someone who knows how to test for damage mods as well as all other mods on weapons, I would say no. Buying UNid is a waste of cash most of the time.
Really valuable mods like +health are easy to check for, as are less favourable mods like Vampirics.
Add to this that it is easy to test for 15^50 once you know how, that UNid deal starts to look a lot less appealing.

Buying an UNID item is no worse than farming, in my mind; yu take your chances. Someimtes, it works out for both sides (as long as the price isn't ridiculous). And, if it's an item you've wanted for a while, why not? Take a chance. I've been on the buying end, and the selling end. Not too many complaints.

As I said in the other thread, "testing" unidentified weapons is only practical for testing:
1. All caster weapons/foci (i.e. energy, health, faster casting and faster recharge modifiers are very testable).
2. Upgrades to warrior/ranger weapons (i.e. suffixes and prefixes), and primarily only health and energy modifiers and vampiric/zealous upgrades.
3. Health modifiers to shields.
It relatively difficult (and inefficient) to test some of the more valuable inherent modifiers to weapons (such as whether it is 15>50) and to shields (such as whether it provides damage reduction). Most owners of unidentified weapons just plain don't have the time to do so and, in the end, it's not worth the cost-benefit analysis. As such, I would say:
1. Do not buy unidentified caster items. Much too easy to test these items (although the % chance is relatively hard to test).
2. Do not buy unidentified weapons if you want to salvage an upgrade off of it. Chances are the best upgrades have already been tested and don't exist on the weapon.
3. Do not buy unidentified shields hoping for a health modifier.
4. DO buy unidentified weapons if you want to take the risk of getting a high end weapon.
5. DO buy unidentified shields if you are hoping for a double damage reduction shield.
#4 and #5 above, obviously, is a gamble. But in the end, if you have excess gold to gamble with, what else are you going to use it for?

I have a bad habbit of wasting my gold on unid stuff. I cant count how much ive wasted. BUT occasionally i find an item that allows my gambling spree to continue or that i can use.
Just the other day i bought a req 10 recurve, a tall shield, and a hammer i think for around 15k. Hammer turned out crap, but bow was a 15% always,-10 armor my ranger likes that and the shield was a -2/-3 stance/hexed shield. my warrior liked that for running very much so occasionally you can find items that can net you a profit. but most of the time, youre wasting your cash.

And yes, I think thats how it should be. UnID means you can't figure out what it is untill it's ID'd, meaning that you shouldnt' earn any abilties from the Unknown Weapon/Shiled/Other untill you ID it.
dont feel no pain
Do Not Buy Unid Sheilds Or Wands, Offhands..... Everything Else Seems Good
