My question is this...In using Pets what is the difference in putting 1 skill point in Beast mastery or 12 into it. Is it more for the other skills in the catagory or does it benifit the pets too. Does the Beast mastery skill affect what you can tame as well?

Nah, Charm Animal works on any animal, no chance of failing on one. Unless you die.
It basically increases the Beast Skills, not how powerful your pet is.
Pets are OK, but please take the DP off of them! PLEASE!!!

Pets have undergone many changes lately so I'm not certain. But I have heard that, at one point at least, Beastmastery worked a lot like a weapon attribute. The higher it goes the closer to 100% damage you get as you can see here. It's hard to tell, though, because unlike a weapon you can't tell what the damage range on your pet is exactly. And there's the whole issue of a pet's level to take into account, too.
As I said, I'm not sure if that's accurate any longer but it would make sense to prevent someone from having 0 Beastmastery and a worthwhile pet. If, you know, it was possible to have a worthwhile pet in the first place...

Last I read adding points into beast mastery allows your pet to increase in damage and criticals like one would add points into Swordsmanship, Marksmanship, Hammers etc... However since it changes a lot I'm not too positive although I hope its like that, because I'm a zookeeper

So is it good to pour points into it? i think ill do like one or two. Maybe even none.

Well it all depends really what you put the points for. For the attack of your animal and skills in it. Or just for the pet to attack stronger. I'm not going to tell you what to do with your build, but a slight suggestion that if you are only going to spend like 1 point on it. Don't bother because at level 20 1 point in beast mastery is no better than 0. Also try not to thin your attributes (i.e. putting points into 4 or 5 types.) Try to be around 3 or 2. Also if you have time Read around with the guides and faqs at Guildwarsguru.com. It gives a lot of information about stuff like that.

Well, I don't want to be dependant on my animal. I mean, it does level up and stuff, thats good. Plus I mean, while it distracts/tanks the enemy, I am raping it from a far. Then I can just "comfort it" right? That sound liek a good Idea?

Personally I feel pets should not be allowed in PvP, they add nothing to the combat and are more of an annoyance than anything else. If you could actually control them in a way that required player skill to make them do something I might feel different. Am I seeing things correctly or are there some pet commands or something I have missed?

There is an attribute called "Beast Mastery". If pets are not allowed in PvP, it would be unjust for players with "Beast Mastery".

Actually you do have control over them, well not really they just attack what you attack. However it all just depends on what your build is. If your build only needs your pet to be just a walking tank then don't worry about beast mastery. However if your a build that focuses on it. The benefits you reap from it is that your pet will be attacking much stronger with criticals like one with a sword with added swordsmanship.

why should they not be allowed in PvP just because you wouldn't want to take one. It's only an annoyance to the player using it if he feels gimped by it. I'm sure if he continues to feel gimped he won't bring it any longer.
