This listing is for NPCs that give skill quests to specific professions. Post-ascension characters who switch secondary professions can gain these skills without spending gold or skill points. Please contribute locations and skills for any profession-specific quest givers (Please don't add NPCs that give skills to everyone, because most people will have visited them before ascension.)

i believe that Guru is already working on a quest database, but this info would likely help.

this is not necessarily true. skills from trainers are bought at increasing amounts of gold. your first skill you buy only costs you 10 gold and a skill point.

I've only bought about 6 skills total before reaching lvl 20, and they were 310g when I checked 2 days ago. Today, they're 340g. I think it charges based on the number of skills your character has, regardless of whether they were bought.

Where is this quest database? Are you talking about gwonline's? They don't seem to list the quests by type, so you'd have to browse through all of the quests to find what you're looking for.

you have to understand though, capture signets rise in cost, and affect the regular skills from skill trainers as well.

It is always smart to browse around first before starting a new project, to see if someone allready has some similar information. in this case I recommend http://www.guild-hall.net/skillavailability.php, which is one of the most complete overviews i've seen on skillquests.

Interesting concept:

But did you buy signet of capture a few times in between? Each signet of capture purchase also increases regular skill prices by 5-10 I think. If you didn't buy it, and got skills via quests, then we can theorize that its based of your total skills amount.

The problem with that list is that it doesn't distinguish the generic skill giver quests from the profession-specific ones. For example, I've finished Yort the Bronze and Grand Mason Snow Cleaver's quests, which gave me skills for my Warrior/Monk. But now that I've switched my secondary to necro, I can't get any necro skills from them because their quests are complete. On that list, fewer than 50% of the quests are for specific professions.

I've purchased about 4 signets of capture and about 6 skills total.

Last week, I talked to Magi Malaquire and the signet was 160g. I bought one, and then the price went up to 165g. I've gained about 2 or 3 skills since then from quests and didn't buy any more signets, and now the price is 175g.

I've got a mostly complete listing of skills as quest rewards, but they are limited to quests that yield two skills from different professions. I'm only missing a few quests, and I don't have very much for warriors (yet). I've tried to place them in the order you find the quests, but a few of them are out of order and there's no easy way to resort them in the database without creating a new table.

The pricing of skills is simple. Each skill costs progressively more than the previous one, increasing by 10 each time. If it will cost you 400 gold to buy a normal skill, it will cost 200 gold to buy a Signet of Capture. They aren't priced independently.

Would like to know where Capture Signets are available. Either I've spaced out when the opportunity was there, or I haven't encountered a source for them yet. Thx for the enlightenment.

You have to complete a quest from Magi Malaquire standing atop a hill in Lion's Arch to be able to access Cature Signets.

From what I remember, each profession has a total of 5 profession specific quests. 3 in the vicinity of Post Searing Ascalon, 1 in either Piken Square or Serenity Temple, and the last one in the Yak's Bend area. I dont' quite get why there isn't more later on, but maybe in another update. Anywayz, the ones I know are the following:

Monk:
Grazden the Protector (Sowing Seeds, Protecting Ascalon, and give thingy back to girl by Ascalon)
Serenity Temple (Kill Charr with Devona)
Yak's Bend (Find Mhenlo)

Warrior:
Warmaster Grast (Kill 5 gargoyles, Find some soldiers in Regent Valley, defend the Breach with soldiers)
Piken Square (Find Old mac and Joe)
Yak's Bend (Checkpoints)

Elementalist:
Elementalist near Ambassadar (Find this elementalist near Breach, Get item from Flame Keepers, forgot the last one)
Serenity Temple (Kill 10 Stone Elementals)
Piken Square (heart of ice)

Mesmer:
Vassar in Sanitarium (Find a mossy rock, Kill a grawl boss, forgot the last one)
Serenity Temple (Kill a storm keeper boss)
Yak's Bend (Kill this one really hard to kill guy)

Ranger:
Master Ranger Nente in the area formerly known as Green Hills Country (Tame a Stalker, Kill Hatemonger in the Breach, follow Nente around to kill Charr)
Piken Square (Follow Aidan to kill Charr)
Yak's Bend, ranger close to entrance to Iron Horse Mines (Kill Beastmaster)

These are just off the top of my head.

An excellent table. This is exactly what many people are looking for.

Now all we need to do is work together to add the missing quest for the other professions!

I noticed that several quest from Serenity Temple and Piken Square are missing.

This thread is so damn useful it should be made into a sticky!!

Although, shouldn't it be under the "Tyrian Explorers' League" forum?

Thank you!

No, you don't. You can get a Capture Signet EARLY from that quest, but you can get Cap Signets from Skill Trainers (starting with Quarrel Falls) whether or not you do that quest or not.

Actually, it's an Excel spreadsheet originally, which I converted to HTML.
I might put the spreadsheet online for download, for those who prefer it.

Some remarks Tetris:
-
1) Experimental Elixe (mesmer) probably does not give Shatter Hex, because i remember doing it, while not having Shatter Hex.

2) necromancer - oberan's rage: diddn't get weaken armor, so i think the question mark is warranted. its not given

3) same goes for renegade necromancer - suffering not given

4) frenzy stance = frenzy i presume

5) i have doubts on Casualty Report - necromancer giving Shadow Strike. please recheck that.

I definitely got Shadow Strike for Casualty Report. That quest is available to other classes, but doesn't reward skills for non Necros, just the measely 150 XP. (Since the quest is absurdly easy, however, that makes sense.)

Perhaps there should be a special note about this quest being available to other classes. (I wonder if it's actually a bug which will be taken away in the future.)

Another note to add:
Ambassader Zanial will only give you the quest if you had brought him message first from Sir Tydus (quest) I believe.
