Spellbreaker is used to avoid to get stripping by mesmers and necro (same thing for Obsidian flesh for 55HP Earth Ele). Using an Elite to make you 27HP and no protection against Strip enchantment and you know there mesmers and/or necro in the area while you play 55HP is a Dead monk.
