Ok seriously, you're either deliberately being obtuse and this is your idea of having fun at people or you're clearly out of your depth when it comes to the ins and outs of building your own rigs.

My advice: buy a ready made computer. You might pay a bit extra but it will save you (and probably a lot of the helpers here) a fair amount of grief. Then go install some games and just PLAY them. Don't worry about things like framerates, and voltages, and overclocking and the countless other things you've asked and asked about again. Just buy a ready made computer, play your games and be happy about it... and don't be insecure about fps etc.

Seems like a valid question to me, and I can see the 939 living for a while longer, they just redesigned the heatsink holder for the socket, so I don't see why they'd kill it any time soon.

just to follow that up:

(AGP models)

x1600pro:

- Powered by ATI Radeon X1600 Pro - 500MHz
- 256MB-128bit 4 channel DDR2 memory - 800MHz
- 12 Pixel shader processor
- 5 Vertex shader processor
- 8 Geometry Pipelines

7800gs

- GeForce™ 7800 GS GPU running at 400MHz
- 256MB 1250MHz high speed GDDR3 memory
- Superscalar 16-Pipe GPU Architecture
- High-Speed DDR 256-bit Memory Interface
- Dual 400MHz RAMDACs
- 600 million Vertices/sec setup
- 40.0GB/second memory bandwidth

Thats 4 more pixel pipelines on the 7800...doing more work per cycle

And the x1600 actualy only has 4 true pixel pipelines. However, they have 3 pixel shader units per pipeline for a total of 12 shader units.

Personally I would never get the X1600. It is no different then getting a X600. Same class...basically. In fact that is what I got when I ordered my Dell Dim 5100 last fall was a X600. I gave it away to a friend of mine and purchased a X800XL.

I myself am going to wait untill a new crop of Vid Cards come out that can handle the HDCP requirement. By then there will be a new crop of CPUs....then I will have a totally newer system that will be future proof. (To a Point *sigh*)

fyi Unreal Tournament 2006 doesnt exist.

I dont belive there are any playable demos for UT2K7....

Wed · Mar 22 · 2006
MOUNTAIN VIEW and SAN JOSE, Calif. – March 22, 2006 - AGEIA™ Technologies, Inc., the pioneer in hardware-accelerated physics for games, today announced at the Game Developers Conference that Epic Games, Inc. is supporting the AGEIA PhysX™ processor in its much-anticipated Unreal® Tournament 2007. Epic developers are leveraging the power of the AGEIA PhysX SDK to add unprecedented physics action to UT2007, a multiplayer shooter that promises to be the game that everyone is talking about. Unreal Tournament 2007 is expected to be available “when it’s done” for the PC and PlayStation 3.

Your system can run games smoothly enough, just don't go too hard on the settings.

i dont even think they are made for agp.

u think maybe i change the mobo and get 4 gigs of ram, thats what my friend did, someone said it was pointless
Yea from what the guy was saying i didnt realise money was an issue here, i mean throwing away his pc when it isnt even that bad, lol?

Said get 2 gig of ram tho, 2 gig is a nice amount, cause windows uses around 256 minimum, and most games will use over 500mb of ram, so your going to need the extra gig, it will be worth it! You might notice the difference alt+ tabbing out of games, as there is much more ram to store information for the game.

Also those 2 models i posted are agp models!

NOBODY knows how powerful a system you will need to run UT2K7 smoothly. Epic recommends a 6800gt or higher but that was a while back and it's not due out anytime soon. They probably mean a 6800gt for medium settings which is what most users play with but if you want to max it out you will probably need one of the most expenive cards you can buy atm or something even better like the G80 when it comes out.

True there. My X800XL can't run full bore settings on BattleField 2. Well I can, but, it will chunk out at times. The X800XL is pretty equal to the 6800GT. So my guess would be a 7900Nvidia or 1900ATI to run full bore graphics.

The new socket (m9.. I think) from AMD is coming soon but I am not to jump on a "new" tech aka new connector, new expansion card slot (pci-express when it 1st came out) until mother board are on there 3rd/4th revision of the 1st gen boards or there on there 2nd, or 3rd mother board w/ the new tech.

.

well then friend, you have something seriously wrong, my x1600 AGP runs BF2 fine, 1280x1024, 4x AA, all on Medium-high and I never get Frame Rate slow down.. and the x800 pci-e is meant to be ATLEAST as-fast as the x1600 agp.

this is on an XP 3200+, 1GB ram...

Read the stats on that game. The X800XL is not optimum for that game.

There are a lot of different brands out there. Coolmax doesn't cost much.
400-450 runs between $30-$50 bucks. Go compare prices at your local stores, or buy online (its cheaper w/better rebates).
