Guild Wars 2?
Another thread got me thinking about this....will there be a Guild Wars 2? Since GW:F has is basically an expansion for those of us with the game already and has taken so long to come out, how many more things like GW:F can Anet come out with before the current GW engine becomes obsolete?
Since Anet charges no monthly fee, and makes its money off of people buying the game, why have they not made 2 or 3 "expansions" like GW:F yet? I know releasing a quality "expansion" is important, but really, how long do they think they have between expansions before the old GW engine is outdated?
How long will you be happy playing on this engine before you want a true Guild Wars 2 with a new engine?

they stated that improvements to and including a new engine would be streamed to us on the fly and would not charge for it.this means the engine will not get out of date.
they said they had to upgrade the engine to show the jade sea properly and at no extra charge.

I dunno if they can really stream a completely overhauled engine... its' like streaming a completely new game. But if its possible, I'd be more than glad to download it.
I've been waiting for a graphical improvement in Guild Wars for a while now (Not that they're bad, GW Graphics have been better than even some long standing MMorpgs), little touches like adding a lens flare to the sun, new sky domes, or patching up broken seems, more little brushes, trees, huts and npcs... all these little touch ups can add so much to the game without a brand new graphical engine. This is what I'm hoping for in Factions, that way we wont have to expect a Guild Wars 2 to bring a new graphical improvement.

we have been streaming in all of chapter 2 for some time according to the interview. (a whole new game)the jade sea shiny surface required an upgrade in the direct x to show best and Gaile said chapter 2 is much prettier than chapter 1 is.
in an interview the owner said all graphics and engine updates would be considered part of the ongoing package.
updating the engine instead of massive all at once changes will allow them to use advances on the fly not wait until it looks shabby

Graphically GW is still more than able to contend with newer online games.. and i'm quite happy with the way it runs on my 3yr old dell laptop, so in my humble opinion GW2 can wait.. i'd much rather see more expansions and an ever growing Tyrian universe.

I was thinking about this very topic a couple days ago and decided that they should never need to come out with 'GW2' because they can stream pretty much any and all updates to us including graphics or physics engines. These types of updates wouldn't come in stores though, because any one who decided not to buy the expansion would not have the same engines, which would cause some problems.

The engine theoretically can be streamed.

It's not an "expansion", and no, there will probably not be a GW2. There will be new Guildwars games, like Factions, but the engine itself will be updated, as has been said multiple times by Jeff Strain. The engine will be updated and will not go out of date, he says. They've already updated the sound and graphical systems. These improvements will be available for everyone, even if you only buy GW1 and no others ever.
Thinking of Guildwars in traditional computer game terms is not very enlightening, because it's such a revolutionary game. It doesn't have "expansions" or "sequels" per se.

Due to how stand-alone Guild Wars Factions is to Guild Wars Prophecies, GWF is a stand alone, Guild Wars 2. It is an expansion for us, but it can also be a stand-alone for new people to Guild Wars, you are not required to own Prophecies to own Factions, which is not ever the case for expansions.
It just makes it cooler that they don't get cheap and call it Guild Wars 2, that is the easy way.
