The FPE is coming, some things to consider.

I have a confession.
When it comes to buying runs, I am a compulsive kleptomaniac(sp?). Then I started believing in Karma. I don't know what spurred this, nothing bad ever happened to me for it, but its for the best anyway. So, to balance my Karma, I started helping enw players ona regular basis, actually asking in Local chat if any new players have questions. I have even gone so far as to create an entire guided tour/lesson plan around Ascalon, then to Sardelac learnign thigs along the way. I have never recieved negative feedback form this, and the new players seem to really appreciate it.
The current state of the GW in-game community (the forums are infinitely better in every conceivable way, i find) is the product of human's desire for power. There are very few people who don;t enjoy power to some degree. I bet the chairman of the Board For Not Caring About Power enjoys his position of power over the group of people who don't care about power. What i mean by all that is that people like to shut-down the newbies because it makes them feel special. It's like schoolyard bullying, only less traumatizing. Unfortunately, since such an amazingly massive chunk of the player base thinks this way, improving the community is as tremendously-to-the-point-of-impossibly difficult as reducing greenhouse gas emissions on a global scale (hell, Canada can't even do it nationally).
I wonder if we could form a commitee for the betterment of the online community and make a team effort to fix the problem. This would pretty much be as futile as the NDP trying to get federally elected (Canadian politics), but everyhting helps. This is of topic.
This weekend, I say everyone that gives a damn about fixing our broken community be out in full force in whatever town reveals itself to be the equivalent of Ascalon, in that many new and confused players will be there. Who's with me!?

2) I have people that are new to the game that I invited and want to help them have a good time with the game. |
as do i, and many many other people do also. on my website we have quite a few gamers who i am trying to get interested in guildwars. I would hate to see them and the rest of the invited people get turned off to the game ive been giving screenshots and raving about.
before reading this thread I had already planned hanging out in the new capital city answering questions to the best of my knowledge and asking a few of my own. thats how people learn
A+ for bringing this subject up
PS bout to make a thread, check it out

One of the other primary areas I was looking at was the Builds area, and many of the skills.
I actually had most of my channels muted for a long time; it was only after I had achieved some moderate level of skill at the game that I started interacting with other players more (trading, PUGs, etc). There was a good while spent doing Ascalon quests with henchmen just learning how to play.
