I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you.

Cold Hard [CASH]

As of today's update; March 23
We are not yet allowing existing roleplaying characters from Tyria to travel across the ocean to Cantha, but during the preview event, new Factions Campign roleplaying characters created on the continent of Cantha will start at level 20, with high level armor and a wide variety of skills. (These preview characters are temporary, cannot travel off the continent of Cantha, and will be reset prior to the release of Guild Wars Factions.)

The only reason I spent $10 on the preview key was so that my EXISTING characters from GW could get a jump start on items and skills for Factions. Now they say that's not possible after previously making every indication that it would be. How convienient for them to anounce this little fact a short 36 hours prior to the event.

They announced a pretty long while ago (before people started taking preorders) that all of the items that you found during the event would be removed from your inventory in prep for the release of the game. 'Sides, you won't need your Tyrian character to start gaining skills - Your Canthan character starts off at level 20.

oofus you'll get the headstart the day before official release if you had preordered.

This has been known for a while now. The reason is simply to prevent balancing issues and minimize the disruption in the economy.

If you did not know, these kind of 'previews' have mutliple purposes. One of them is gathering data to measure how new items, skills, weapons, and etc are balanced. They will eventually will modify some of them (from minor to major) between now and the actual release date.

Best advice--- spend 5 minutes reading the FAQs so you wont be caught off guard.

He's saying he didn't know that the created characters would get wiped after the event.
You will get a headstart though, if only by 24 hours(servers open for you and us others the day before retail release, see).

1. You did not "spend" $10 on the pre-order alone. You put a downpayment on the game. Geez, it's like people want something for nothing... (Oh, and you still get a 24 hour head start, 2 free in-game items, and some other no so great stuff. But, hey, FREE being the key word)

2. It was clearly stated that a) you would not be able to use pre-existing characters in the Preview and b) all items gotten from the preview event would be wiped out anyway.

The only thing "permanent" from the event is PvP unlocks for skills and items.

I really don't mind not being able to take my chars to cantha during this event. What I don't like however is the fact the chars will start at lvl 20, with max AL. That even makes me thing about not joining this event since I don't want spoilers. I thought we'd be able to play it like normal. >.>

And is it just me, or does this event seem to not include anything but PvP? I definitely hope I'm wrong since I'm more of a PvE person.

I'm quoting this for the second line there. I'm PvE myself and other then maybe trying so character creations and designs and capping pics of the combinations... I'm seeing little to nothing that I'll do this weekend...

/sigh

Which is kinda sad to be honest. I mean the last event was PvP and so is this one? Looks like PvE is ignored again...

It has story missions. The last event was all PvP.

There is no traveling from Tyria to Cantha during the preview event. Inventories from the even the event will be stripped clean. PvE Characters will be reset to level 1. And so on. Read the damned announcements more closely.

Yeah, but on the other hand, all we know is we will have access to missions and quests to competitive play. To me, that sounds like some kind of PvP, or the new kind of missions where we battle against each other to get new land. They haven't said anything about PvE missions. Atleast not in the update notification. I hope I'm wrong though. Guess we can just wait and see...

There are the standard PvE missions, the new "competive" missions, and new pvp.

But the question remains how much of this is available this weekend or is the events mostly PvP?

Factions Preview Event

Join us the weekend of March 24th for the FactionsTM Preview Event! This will be your first chance to visit the breathtaking continent of Cantha, the newest world of the Guild Wars saga. During the event, you will get the chance to play roleplaying and player-versus-player characters, and to pursue a variety of gameplay options, including story missions, competitive missions, and a new form of PvP called alliance battles!
Quote:
You can play four higher-level missions—two story missions and two competitive missions—appropriate for your Level-20 characters.

You will be able to experience 15 quest areas.

For all Factions roleplaying characters, certain game elements will be inaccessible. These include: guild halls, the Xunlai (storage) Agents, and Battles Isles. Ship travel to and from Cantha will also be disabled during the event. These game elements are locked down to help assure that unfinished or unbalanced items acquired during the event do not impact the game economy in the long term.
Just to highlight a few. check main site for the full list.
