Sound Disappearing?

Hello guys/gals, 1st time poster and all that.

My GW has been absolutely fine for months and months, no problems at all. Now there was a big-ish update today (23rd March) and when I play now, some of the sound effects are silent. The ambience and music are fine, just some of the sound effects... i.e the sound of my sword hitting the enemy has gone, it's just silent. There's more, but then some of the effects are fine so I'm not sure what's going on since I haven't changed anything on my computer which is associated with my sound card or what have you.

Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this? I'd be a lot happier knowing it's something to do with the update, rather than my computer .

Yep, same problem here. Sound has been fine forever, up until today's update. I updated my audio drivers just to be sure, still no luck. Have music and background noise, but no sound effects.

And I too am having the same problem. I sent a question to the support site, hopefully it'll get fixed.

Maybe we have something in common hardware-wise?

I have onboard Realtek audio, nVidia chipset, Windows XP SP2, AMD X2.

All drivers updated as of two days ago.

I can't hear anything hitting me, me casting spells like flare or immolate, and I'm having the same problem, I can hear music and ambience but not the sound effects for things beating on me or anything...

Different sounds, mainly weapons from what I've heard, have been coming and going with the updates it would seem. When Factions has been out for awhile and the major updates are finished and tweaked, I imagine that the issue will be resolved. That seems to be the general consensus anyway.

Here's some other recent threads with the same issue:

Aaah lovely, OK thanks guys at least I know it ain't just the comp. Hopefully it'll get sorted sometime soon because it just isn't the same when you're used to ALL of the sounds for so long!

I found that if I turned the quality down one notch and then restarted the game entirely, the sounds came back. Support told me to delete the gw.dat file, but after everything re-updated I still had the same problem (on max sound quality).

I also have this problem, with a lot of my guild members. I'll try lowering the quality.

Hmm, tell a lie... it comes and goes, I seem to find it plays up most when there's lots of stuff going on (i.e, a battle with many enemies at the same time)... and it's also not just the weapons missing sounds. It's also the healing signet, meteor spell... all sorts. I just can't pinpoint when exactly they start to mess up and disappear, and what can fix it (the turning down the quality didn't work for me).

I wish this would be fixed, it's unnerving running around killing things when I can't hear anything... Just SOME spell stuff, very little, no weapons, no footsteps, no spells, no attacks, nothing beating on me. It only happened after the update yeterday and is still happening today. So I KNOW it isn't my sound drivers...

Lowering the quality worked for me! I lowered it two levels, where it used to be on the maximum level.

Unnerving indeed, it takes so much away from the gameplay also though.

Lowering the quality setting of the sound to medium fixed it for me. Above someone put that, but I thought they meant the slider for the volume levels, not the quality. Once it comes back you should be able to move it back to Maximum without it having problems again. Least, thats how it works for me. So glad I can hear stuff again.
