Rangers can get a Black Widow pet there. You can gain masses of xp in there also. What else I dont know. The best group I've been in down there did a couple quests and was working on an incredibly long one (Statues quest) when we finally, after hours, succumbed to exhaustion and quit.
Mostly though you just die, at least in pick-up groups. It takes a very cohesive and careful team to survive down there and one idiot can ruin it for everyone in a heartbeat.
The probability of there being at least one idiot in any pick-up group is distressingly close to unity.

You will be surprised how time fly by in that area...
I believe the difficulty there actually had been reduced slightly... example: the minotaurs there appear to take more damage, althought not by a margin... however, noticable... if memory serves me right.
Underworld also give materials instead of equipment more often.
