Sentinel Armor: A Warrior's Comeback
Insides0ut
Ok, with all the commotion on assassins and ritualists and everyone thinking assassins are gonna take over warriors i was looking at the new armors and noticed that the sentinel armor gives u 100 armor if u have 13 or more in strength, but, -20 armor if less than 13.
In all my experience as playing a warrior, i preffered being a axe or sword stance tank monk so i can get some healing of my own and stuff, the only effective strength builds i have used were for farming not an all game (pve) combo.
So basically what i'm saying is...anyone have an effective Strength build that you use all the time and requires 13+ strength? and, how many of u actually use strenght instead of tactics?
well, ty in advanced for ur help if anyone finds this interesting :P

Assasins take over Warriors! Ha! See this is why I want 1 v 1 PvP fights... Things like that just NEED to be proved :P
I personally only ever use Strengh when going on missions or quests as my Sword setup uses it. But even then I never put more then 10 into it. As for PvP I know alot of Axe warriors like a good Strengh but even then I dont think they put 13+ into it. But still, if you are using Sentinel armour and only ave say 11 Strengh which I know alot of Axe warriors use you would still have an 80 AL. Which I think it still above the rest if I am not mistaken.
So like I said. Tactics usually wins over Strengh. And even when it doesnt having 13+ in strengh seems strange as it doesnt offer much

80 is the base armor of warrior armors weeping, so its 13 str or don't bother
Weeping Wind
Ah right nice one. Couldnt remember if it was 60 or 80.
You could have 9 Strengh on atrributes. Then +1 from the Helm and +2 from a Major. I am not too sure if the Helm and Runes stack though. Need some conformation on that. So this would benefit my normal build. As I dont use Tactics unless I am farming.

Tactics has a limited use in PvP, so I can possibly see Sentinel's being usefull there.

I know i speak for all of us when I say i'm looking forward to IWAY respeccing to 13 strength and gaining 20 armor as well added regen.

I just used a pure warrior build with sentinal and berserker armour.
I was fighting 3 Korean Axe Spikers and they only managed to kill me after 5 minutes. They actually said GG you good warrior.
My first PvP compliment.
I had Sentinal Helm, chest, gloves and feet with berserker legging.
I had my strengh at 13 for it and used watch your self along with dylok.
They did 0-32 dmg. The 32 was usually Evicereate or Executionar's Strike.
#Edit I also had a Major Strengh Rune on the helmet, so yes they do stack.

which is why most teams use armor-ignoring damage like obsidian flame and energy surge which eat through warrior's armor no matter how high it is..

I once beat War Machine solo naked using nothing but a starter wand and a -50 health focus. They actually said GG you a leet haX0r.

You've got a point, IWAY Sentinel FTW..
Battle Torn
You may as well go sup rune for strength -75hp than maj -50. 1 more strength for just 25hp.
I use 13 strength often as I find the extra chance for critical hits and armour penetration worth it.
I wouldnt take this armour farming though..

Gladiators Armour is still king. thats 100 vs physical, and u have extra nrg, so i see no reason to take sentinals armoir other than it looks cool.
I expect that all the wammo n00bs will switch to sentinal straight away, and be even easier targets. *sigh*
Oh, and warriors arnt in any real danger from being outdone by assassins, and a 1v1 scenario is no way of testing it. There is one build that will win in most scenarios, and thats a a snare/degen build.Thats doesnt mean that all other builds are useless tho, does it? Thinking that one on one somehow denotes skill is one step further to the dark side, aka n00b side...

Its a shame that dolyak signet renders u completely useless in any kind of fight. I would love you to see that build attempt to do anything in any competitive sense, but i feel that if i actually met a build such as that, i would proberly have to either burst out laughing, or burst out crying, possible a mixture of both.
Oh god, somebody save me from the inexperienced warriors!.
The only use for sentinals armour, the only justification, is that if u have no nrg require skills whatsoever, and u were running a 15 in hammer, 14 in strength type thing. Otherwise i suggest that you try and forget surviving after the rest of the team is dead, and start trying to actually kill something.

They are stupid if they do hit you while you have Watch Yourself + Dylok Signet on. I will just go away, dance for a while (your moving speed is reduced by 75%) and then come back when your signet is over
Like Tiger Angers said, many classes start to utilize skills which bypass AL. So no matter it is 100 or 80, it makes no difference to them.
Sentinel may make you "stronger" and "tougher" to physical damage. But casters with hexes, degen, and conditions will eliminate you in no time

Not just to physical. To all types of damage that are negated by armor.
Hexes, Degen and Conditons are a pain yes. Thats why you have hex and condition removal on a monk.
PvP is not Random Arena.

Thats the only they managed to kill me. They use health degen.
But remember I'm not the only person in a team so if they move away from me they are still under attack from my team.
Although this armour setup would be great for farming.
In respons to Peewee, I never said Sentinel was better then Gladiators. I was only testing it on a pure tank build I had.
For the record its a very good damage dealer aswell. The fact that we lost 13-10 proves it.

PvP is not Random Arena. So you mean this armor gonna be good in GvG, right?
I love this forum. Sooner maybe a lot of W/* wearing Sentinel, using an Axe and a Bulwark in GVG.
Sentinel maybe good for Hammer warrior (cuz they dun have shield) but many Hammer skills require energy, so it maybe better to use Gladiator.
It maybe a good combo to use one or two pieces of sentinel. Full set? No way

If I have to the Doylak and WYS are the best combo to give you what you need. Even if you did only have one or two pieces you would still need the 13 strengh to get the best out of it.
IWAY with Sentinel armour is going to prove VERY nice indeed. I guess the IWAY flames will hit back hard soon

here my PvE balance tank build, it works wonders for me.
stats:
strength 9+1+3(i usually use a minor rune but guess its worth a superior for 100AL)
healing 8
tactics 7+1
swordsmanship 12+3
sklls:
pure strike
seeking blade
final thrust/galrath slash
warrior's endurance {elith}
healing sig
watch yourself
riposte
mending
with tactics at 8 u get 100hp from healing sig, and 8 healing magic get u +3 health regen.warrior's endurance allows u to spam the two energy skills for a higher overall damage so u dont wait for adr skill to charge. final thrust is for when the enemy health gets below 50%. keep "watch yourself" on all the time, and spam riposte when ur up against melee (at 8 tactics it give 51 dmg so its not bad) and mending is for constant healing. This is a awesome build for PvE, but u do need to add some+health mods to counter the -150hp of the two supers.

You need more than 13 strenght, if im right.
So 14 is the strenght lvl that you need.
Correct me if im wrong.

heaven, that's not a bad build, it's real similar to my own. scares me a little cuz i thought i was the only one doing that, lol
abt the armor, i dun think much ppl will use the str 13. it's just too much to worry for.

what about the armor with the added health its 100 armor vs physical and added it gives 35 health it beats platemail and with a +30 hp on a weapon and +30 shield thats 95 added health and a sup vigor thats 145 added health i think that beats 100AL anyday
Rancour
Perhaps it's just me, but if I could choose armor or health, I'd go armor.
Armor can get your enemies damage down to 0, which rocks. Health will just make it take longer for them to kill you.
Personally, I'll be using Gladiators Chest, Ringmail Gloves and Sentinel Helm, boots and Leggings. Dyed right, I think it'll look awesome.

Guys... this has been talked about before. Dolyaks is quite a good skill for PvE. Check out thread like the Hydra Farming thread. Using it effectively at 15 strength with sentinel armor, you could have a constant 140 AL. This means you would be taking 25% damage from all non-armor ignoring or piercing damage.

I am SO looking forward to getting a set of Sentinels in Cantha then going back to Tyria to farm Hydras and Ice Imps in it. Makes me all antsy just thinking about it.

My personal PvE build goes about like this:
Axe 10+1
Tactics 11+1+2*
Strength 10+1
*Note: The major tactics rune is not really necessary, but I used it before and never got around to changing it.
Healing Signet
Power Attack
Watch Yourself
Defy Pain {E}
Disrupting Chop
Endure Pain
Dolyak Signet
Rebirth
The dolyak sig/endure pain is for emergencies, and also because it's fun to hit Endure Pain while under Defy Pain and call out "My health is 1,000 out of 1,000" or so. WY+DP can be kept up continuously if you use no other adrenal skills. Since I was using glad's armor and strength, I obviously added Power Attack as my attack skill since that would allow me to not worry about adrenaline. Disrupting Chop is there because it is really nasty to use on a vital spell; it is not meant to be used often or it will interfere with WY+DP. I was delighted when I saw the sweet look of the new Sentinel's Armor, and was even more delighted to see that by lowering my tactics to 10 and my Axe Mastery to 10 I could easily accomodate 13 strength in my build, and even have enough points left over for 6 in a splash attribute.
I liked this idea because with the total of 140 armor vs. everything (which quarters dmg compared to the 60 AL of casters) and 750 health or so, you're not going down easily.

I think Sentinel Armor should be compared more to Legionnaire's Armor. Sentinel is 100 armor vs. everything, while Legionnaire's Armor is 110 armor vs. physical and 90 armor vs. elemental. If there's a group of physical based attackers, I think a W/Me using Legionnaire's Armor + Physical Resistance would be best, while a W/Mo with Sentinel can go against the elemental ones.
