Dissatisfied with Assassin Armor?
3 pages • Page 3
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The word assassin derives from the Arabic word حشّاشين (haššāšīn), an Islamic sect of militants founded by Hasan-i Sabbah.
His ancestors had formed a small but deadly army to defend themselves. The army became famous across the land as protectors- skilled executioners who wandered the countryside slaughtering any of the enemy they could find. They were renowned not only for their brutal killings, but also for celebrating their slayings by plunging themselves into drug-induced stupors. Their drug of choice was a potent intoxicant called hashish.
As their notoriety spread, these lethal men became known by a single word- Hassassin- literally 'the followers of hashish.' The name Hassassin became synonymous with death in almost every language on earth. The word was still used today, even in modern English...but like the craft of killing, the word had evolved.
It was now pronounced assassin.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(hacked together from a few places on the 'net
)So there you go! Arabic origin. Makes me think of dervishes with scimitars for some reason.
The Arabic Hassasin would also be a nice theme to add for the Assassin... I was hoping Anet could provide the class with a variety of themes similar to the warrior... A ninja theme, Arabic Hassasin theme, Medevial Thief/Rogue theme, and the current Bondage lovers theme... Because currently, we just have these for the assassin:
-Bondage lovers starter kit theme
-Dominatrix lovers theme
-Softcore Knife Bondage lovers theme
-Acupuncture Bondage lovers theme
-Hardcore Knife Bondage lovers theme

Just have a look around other higher end MMOs like L2 and to be released SUN you will begin to understand why armour / weapon design isnt Anets strongest selling point which partly puzzles me to no end since NCsoft would have to have looked at the models at least at some point in dev meetings. The difference in standards are appauling along with Anet fancination with nude fighting as pointed out by many others. I wonder what the PvE community in Korean think of this.....maybe they dont have PvErs any more
and only PvP are left playing and PvErs have but long gone back to L2....after the novelity of Guild wars worn off. I dont see any elements that would attract the mainstream PvE Koreans that has left to return to Factions but rather to draw more interest in the newer regions of Japan and Tawian.
Frankly, the good old PS2 game "Tenchu" has a more acurrate protray of assassin armour but hey its their game. I will personally be looking to aquire the shrouded set for the extra energy and the shoulder BLADES

A bit off topic:
Actually, the link I posted a few pages up (SHINOBIDO: IMASHIME) is a ninja game made by the creators of Tenchu (1&2), before they sold the name to the company "FROM SOFTWARE"... Its like a mix of both elements from Tenchu (stealth tactics) and Sega's SHINOBI for the PS2 (speed w/signature scarf) IMO its a pretty nice game, and I look forward to playing it once it comes to U.S. shores... I'll post up a vid of the game soon...
Ok update: here's the video: http://youtube.com/watch?v=Ko-aap49sRE
Back on topic:
I used to play L2 and the armor available there (so expensive) IMO is waaay WAAAY better in comparison to GW (my only gripe with L2 armor is the unavailability of helmet skins... seems all helmets there are invisible ;p )... Though I respect Anet's strive to be original (the gameplay is pretty original, I like how it plays and I applaud them for that), I don't think armor aesthetics should be compromised for the sake of originality... I would assume that alot of people would be more comfortable with themes they can associate with or they've seen before... Anet could always be original in the design elements or that particular theme anyway, so they can cater to the masses and be semi-original at the same time.... I myself might not be fond the current "End Game Armor" for the assassin, but I know that there are also people that straight LOVE them (do you guys really want THESE http://img95.imageshack.us/img95/1834/untitled4cq.png babies on your male assassin?) so I am all for including the current armor theme in the game. But as I've always said, it would be AWESOME of Anet if they could also cater to people that do not find these kinds of armors appealing and prefer a more traditional, set.... I think PvE'rs and RPers alike will be happy with the addition of variety...

lol yea i saw that on tv on the history channel on like 5 am one time
cheap his channel really made it grusome
but on kinda serious note, i am kinda disappointed, the only armor i found even decent to wear around was the starter, which isnt usually bad but chillin out with people in beginner armor makes u seem cheap
the armor i would still usr tho is the one with more energy, regardless what it looks like, though i would have rather had something that would seem like a more energy less armor thing, like maybe regular blk ninja robes outta those crazy movies
it just seemed like the armor that gives the most energy would be the one they would use for the most armor, i mean in all it has large spikes on it, i mean ugg i dont like to complain since i dont that many things i dont like about gw but

But its Assassin which is a anet fantasy class, so yeah they can really have whatever they want.
Yep it's a "Fantasy" game meaning ANET could give your character a TV remote and call it a "shimmering blade" if they want.
Can everyone please realise, its a FANTASY game and not an actual historical action game. It's all make believe. So please no more...
OMGWTFBBQ the assassins slash right hand first but we all know ninjas slash left hand first and leave the right hand ready to deal a killing blow once the left handed slash creates a window of oppurtunity. Sign my petition.
-John Q Doesnt know wtf fantasy means. X

Unless you meant "Erotic Fantasy" (hence the Bondage type armor), wouldn't having a "Fantasy" type premise be even more of a reason to add the super-exaggerated "ninja" theme into the armor selection? Historical info based on ninja have been so vague and contraversial that it might as well be a fantasy type class.
To summarize:
Knights, Monks, Rangers, and the like are in this game... These classes/jobs have historical significance in the real world, yet they are in this "fantasy" world made by Anet. Same for the ninja. Add to that, Anet gave Factions an "oriental/asian" feel to it. More the reason to add ninja (Anet has already put armor/themes from other asian countries like China/Korea -Monk/Warriro Legionarre armor, etc... so why not Japan?) into the assassin armor ranks. Warriors have different armor "themes" that pertain to real life "warrior" classes (platemail/knights, gladiator, etc...), I (as well as some others) feel it should be the same for assassin (ninja/shinobi, thief/rogue, arabic hassassin armor, etc...)
Like Nevin said a couple of posts up, it doesn't make sense for Anet to not choose this route for their assassin class just for the sake of originality... I'm hoping Anet has acted on this request and just chose not to say anything for the sake of suspense.... ;p (maybe this thread would've been more well recieved if it was in the Sardelac Sanitarium section...)

Anet, please give us variety like how you treated Warrior armor!!!
Trust me...the China you know is not the real China.
You see 8 year old kids smockings cigs here, bullies who no one dares to cross.

China? Since when did I talk about China? I could care less what China is like today.... Sounds like the China you're talking about is the same as every other South East Asian Country.... (Thailand and Philipines have those kinds of crowds too... big deal.)

Ok. I've read every post so far,and the same thing is being said up until the China reference. You want more armor variations and you all would like to see a more ninja(as depicted to all that I know)like armor style. Also, you would like more diversity in armor as well. It should be that and then some,if their will be different styles for each faction(Kurzicks and Luxons),as well as whatever else may come out of the woodwork. You are all jumping the gun a bit IMO,since we have seen a limited amount of material thus far. I say sit back, relax, drink a cold juice/beer/beverage, and wait until the 28th.Then,if you are still not happy with what you see, then make this argument become an issue(Just like the FoW/UW access issue is now being addressed).

Youre right and I did notice a lot of assassins would rush in and start trying to tank. There are some assassins I faced during the FPE though that definately knew how to use this profession effectively

Those using this excuse... you do realize that that in Tyria, there are Knights, gladiators, monks, etc. yet Tyria is not England/Italy/China/etc right? We're not asking to "change" Anet's assassin class to "NINJA"... we're simply asking Anet to offer "themed" options (such as thief/rogue, arabic/hassassin, shinobi/"ninja" armor) similar to how they did Tyria's "Warrior" class...
There are some weapons in Cantha (from the FPE) that derive from Japanese culture, such as the katana and shinobi blade, so why not include japanese-esque armor as well? (maybe a Samurai style "Bushido" armor for warriors and ninja style "Shinobi" armor for assassins). The lack of "hand to hand martial arts" in the game should be more of a blow towards Monks than Assassins...
