Merging Accts - Effect on Skill Points and Costs
Swinging Fists
Does anyone have (hopefully confirmed) info on how skill points will be handled with merged accts ?
For example, suppose I merge my accts and I have used up all my skill points in Prophecies (I haven't, but let's just say I have) and that the cost of my next purchased skill is 1,500g (arbitrary number - I have no idea what it would actually be). Now, I assume we will have the opportunity to earn additional skill points in Factions, so would my first Factions skill cost me 1,500 gold ?
How many skill points can we expect to earn in Factions, also ?
I have been discussing this with my friends / guildies and it would be nice to know what we will be facing before we spend skill points to buy Prophecies skills.
Depending on what we (I) find out, it would have an impact on my decision as to whether or not to merge accts, among other things.
Thanks ahead of time for the input.

wouldn't ammounts of skill points cap out at the point where you have enough to successfully buy every skill in the game? (on each char?). Then I would have to think that they would separate skill points or differentiate between them, I dont know whether they considered this or not.

What is known...
- Skill points are per character, not account.
- The max cost is 1000 gold.
- There is no "using up" of skill points, you can always gain more with XP.
I see no reason why anything would change with Factions, you still gain a skill point at level up and for completing a mission. Perhaps some quests will reward skill points as well.

yeah I have characters with extra skill points one guy in my guild has bought every skill and still has close to 200 extra skill points....

Ok, I guess it wasn't clear in my original post. I do know that skill points are per character, not per account. But I was contrasting the difference between bringing over an existing character from Prophecies ( level 20, thus no 20 skill points to be earned from levelling up in Factions ) and creating a new character in Factions.
Now I know the max price is 1,000g, which is good as we can rule out the price increase being a factor. But, if you bring over a level 20 with all skill points used up, you would only have skill points to be earned for completing missions and maybe a few from various quests.
It seems that it would be more difficult to acquire skills for an existing character (who spent lots of skill points in Prophecies) in Factions than it would be for a new one.
Also, Sidra, I don't think we do have enough skill points to cover all the skills that a char can have. I'm not sure that you can acquire all skills for the initial setup of primary and secondary professions, but certainly not when you consider switching between different secondaries. I haven't done much of this yet, but I plan to leave a couple skill points for each of the secondary professions as a couple skills in each might be useful under different circumstances.
Am I thinking too much on this ??
I just want to add one other thing about the 12:00 start of the preview. Did anyone else have to delete a level 20 at the last minute to make room for the preview character ? I didn't like that, but it was somewhat funny to watch many others do what I had to do and see their chars stripped naked to either sell or salvage their armor before deletion. Nice to know you're not alone sometimes...lol

Ok, so after reading the newer posts, I guess the word is that skill points are unlimited, albeit increasingly difficult to attain through the "levelling up" or more accurately "skill pointing up" after level 20.
OK. Makes sense to me. Thanks.

... There is no limit on how many skill points you can have. It will be a *bleep* to get the money for them if you bring a lvl 20 over, but you can't have anything you want just because you played the game before this one. This is an expansion that is meant to be also played as a standalone game. I highly doubt that a-net is going to bend double to make it that much easier for old players and that much harder for new players. If we could already access infinite ammounts of skill points earned in Prophecies and get skills with them, then where would the factions only people be? left in the dust, for sure. They have to balance it some way.
edit: while i was typing this, swinging posted what he did above. no need to read it now.

Didn't they say you can't merge accounts? If that's still true, the OP's questions have no relevance.

you can not merge 2 chapters that are the same.
no merging of 2 chapter 1 for example
Lord Iowerth
Easy answer:
Since you'd be doing the missions/quests/killings in Cantha ALREADY with a new toon, what makes them any more difficult to do with an OLD one?
In fact, I would think that already being level 20 and having (we can hope) a good command of your aresenal/skill setup would make it EASIER to earn skill points in Cantha. You will fly through the easy missions (easy skill points) and still get lots of exp for the tougher ones.
Go for the merge, or else spend loads of time unlocking other "core" skills that you've already unlocked with your Prophecies account.

I just meant more difficult to obtain because each skill point acquired through xp required more and more xp and also obviously a level 20 wouldn't get any xp for killing foes of such lower level areas. Understood that the quests and missions would be much easier, but I guess I was just saying each target moves further and further away with increasing xp between.
Also, I expect, as in Prophecies, many skills will be free via skill quests, but many have to be purchased or captured.
Again, thanks for the good input / thoughts.

well I would assume you are thinking you will have lv 20 characters in factions before merging with prophecies? I would imagine if you did that, the prices for skills would still remain the same. You can be lv20 and have never bought a skill which means the cost is what... 100g for the first skill?
