Getting Married in the Game
ViNeS-
I have seen 2 weddings so far in the Game, I want to Know how to do. I have e-mailed guildwars time and time again and all they say is
"Anyone could get married, but they are player events and made by the players. So, you would need to organize everything on your own. As far as rings, etc... that would be up to you to figure out what you want to use to represent the marriage ring. If you have any further questions or comments, feel free to contact us."
they didnt really give me a site, or a command that we could do.
Anyone know?

A command for what? I can only assume it's for changing you're last names?
shinseikaze

No, it is not possible to get married in game and have any sort of game recognition of the fact. Sure, you can stage a wedding, but Guild Wars currently has no items such as wedding rings, dresses, tuxes, etc.
If you do have a strong, fervent need to get married in Guild Wars, I'm afraid that it'll have to be entirely and purely within the realms of roleplay -- meaning, pretend everything is there.
So, no, there is no command that you can do. Nothing will change your names, either, except the "delete" character button on the loading screen.

Had to say it but Zilm is right. If she has a problem with your playing now, it is going to be a huge area of desension when you are married. Trust me either get something in writting about getting game time after the marriage or look for someone else because life will be terrible if you don't. But that's just my advise...and be sure to take it with a grain of salt.
Lymix
You could marry Jana.. she would let you play I'm sure.

It definantly would be cool to get married, but it would be hard for GW to put actuall weddings into the game and make them official, there could be loads of problems, e.g. what if people want to get divorced or even marry somone else.

I'm married, and my wife dislikes that I play a lot of videogames. I'm a stubborn ass though, so I refuse to stop playing games. I have always been a gamer, ever since the atari/intellivision days, and have never tried to hide it. The way I see it is, she knew who I was when we were dating for 3 years before we got married, she knew what she was getting into. I love her, but I won't change my lifestyle for anyone. What would be the point in giving up the things that make me happy to make someone else happy?

A good way of figuring it out is to:
* Kill every type of monster in the game
* Explore every area in the world map
* Explore every town
* Complete all missions / quests
* Get a guild hall
If that don't work, then it's probably changing your last name or something.

If you don't wanna be seen as a cheap-ass you better be buying her a signet ring.

Well I suppose the good things about getting married in game:
- you CAN actually rely on the weather!
- you're able to pick a truely unique area & setting
- theres a good chance that the inlaws wont make it

I got married in SWG, that was perhaps the most marriage-friendly game in mmorpg history. Tailor made rings, a house, a honeymoon spot on naboo.

ROTFL.

Well, Stars Wars Galaxies (while terrible in a lot of ways) did actually offer characters the ability to marry each other, and have it show up on your character stats. Rings had a "Propose Unity" option. When selected, your character got down on one knee and it gave the other user a pop-up to accept or decline the proposal. And yes, even the unity thing had its share of bugs, besides the moral implications...
In Guild Wars, getting married (and allowing name changes with it) would be very neat. My wife and I created our characters with the same last name specifically for that reason. While we're still trying to figure out a good way for role-playing to fit into the game itself, it was kinda neat to have the same last names.
As for games after you're married, it's very possible. My wife did not enjoy games at all until I showed her SWG. She fell in love with it and we played for 2 years in it together. When we finally left SWG to come to GW with our guild, she came as well, and continues to enjoy gaming as much as ever.
Don't let games be the deciding factor though in who you marry. If you enjoy doing things together, and genuinely like each other (even if you get ticked at each other every now and then), then with divine help, you'll be fine.
Me, personally, I got lucky that the girl I fell in love with also grew to like computers...

<insert Snide Comment About In-game Marriage Here>
Darkest Dawn
I've had to do some limiting of computer gaming since being married, but my wife is very tolerant of my habits. I do try to balance my gaming time in such a way that I don't neglect the needs of my wife and children. I also realized before getting married that I wouldn't play quite as often, but I don't regret it for a moment. My family is precious and worth more than any game. Still, if one's potential spouse doesn't understand gaming as a viable hobby like some read, watch TV, golf, knit, etc... then it may be a bit of a problem, lol
Sekkira
Unlike some people, I aint submissive. If I want to play video games, then I can play video games. It goes both ways too, if she wants to err... I forgot her intrests are the same as mine Either way, no girl's gonna stop me playing games.
dansamy
Just marry a girl who plays. My husband did!
GraceAlone
Just to clarify, my gaming time has decreased since getting married, but I have no problem with that. When I didn't work so early I used to stay up late while she slept, but now I just try and play when I can...family has to come first though so if she asks me to stop I will. I love to play, but I love my family more

I agree 100%. I swore an oath to love, cherish, and give myself to my wife, and our children. I don't make vows lightly, nor will I break them!
Still, I have plenty of time to play, of course, there is never enough time to play a great new game, lol. I COULD play, sleep, play, sleep, .....

I'd love for my wife to play online with me, but she has zero, zip, nada, nil, no patience for computer/video games. lol, well when the kids get older...

People need to find real people to have relationships with. *shakes his head* Oh... if your gonna flame this post. My comment stands. lol.

I think they should add Marriage as an option to the game. I'll wager they do, in one of the expansions. Why not, its easy to "not do" if you can't be bothered and it would make some people happy to have the option, hence they'll want to keep playing.
I let my 6 year old daughter play some, and she loves two things about the game... that Gwen follows her everywhere and that her "tiger" follows her everywhere. She'll tell me, "They really love me, cause they help me and keep me company."
And she would love to marry people in game. She's always saying, "Can I ask him to marry me?" Its a 6 year old thing, but hey, isn't it mostly about fantasy anyway?
Peace

hey. i think u guys are right. i play about 3hrs a day now, lookin for work. jus came back from 2 months in vietnam.
its goin to be over a year til i marry, if she can put up with my faults. she's the best fiancee you can think of! i think once i become a nurse, yes a male nurse, let the jokes begin, & get married, i still want to play a few hours/week. she said she will cry if i play in front of her. which i wont do unless she's busy. cuz i guess girls need constant attention.
how can i get something in writing? i dont think it wil be a legal issue. my life is terrible without her! she's in vietnam & i'm in usa.
i've lived without creature comforts of awhile. but Lasher is right, its hard to giv up the things u love.
i'v found that if u do the slightest thing wrong, girls will hold it against u for the rest of your life. example, if u go fix the car while she's having dinner with your folks. hey the car needs fixing . or if u make an off hand comment about her height.
my fiancee is very shy, doesnt play games at all, only does the comp for her work.
GW is 1 of the best games out there. there may be legal issues associated with marrying in game. but i use to play muds, text based, no graphics, & they let u marry.

Getting married in Guild Wars is obviously possible, as the link above show. Just start thinking about what the RP part of CORPG name means. No need for any game mechanics to support it, just an active imagination.

Since I don't watch a lot of TV and my wife does I finally told my wife (who hates that I play games) that I'll give up games when she gives up watching TV. I give up what I do in the evenings and she makes the same sacrifice for me.
Haven't really heard much of an argument with her since that little discussion.
