I'll tell you true, I was not liking this game so much at first.
The reason was that making friends was almost impossible. I have friends coming into the game with me and so we did things together in Pre-sear. Then in Post Sear groups were just plain trouble.
Most of the people either just want to get through the missions as fast as possible or have other personality traits that didn't lend itself to friendship.
Now that I'm past Yak's and on to Lyon's it's almost easy to make friends. You can tell almost instantly when you find someone with a sense of humor now, some one who enjoys exploring the world instead of just trying to get through to the end.
For the first time in this game I'm starting to wonder how many friends I can add to my list.
I'll admit to an EQ bias, where people banded together out of need but ended up as friends for friendship sake. It took 15 levels of fun but easy exploring but I think I'm finally finding that again.
Good job with the game dev's, both PvP and PvE.
friends are getting easier

It might be a bit hard till you get to Yak's Bend, though I do have a lvl 3 in Yak's Bend. But then again, I cheated and used my main to bring him there.

lol im not one to rush through games. I have a personal mission to map every single inch of the world. Almost done too, just need ring of fire and a wee bit of the desert heh.

I like to do every quest and explore. (I'm lvl 8 and still in pre-searing ascalon)
If you want someone to talk to or team in pre-sear (I should be finishing up this week) just pm me. I'm usually on Xar Darkmoon.

First of all I am an Everquest 1 Veteran of five years... Loved every minute of it. I think it's also worth saying that I played Everquest 2 for 1 month, then cancelled my account. EQ2 had the best graphics that I have ever seen. Other than that, I felt like I was playing Dark Ages of Camelot again, blah...
NOW!
Guild Wars... I bought the game about a week ago. I really enjoyed Pre-Searing. I too was level 8 W/R before I left Pre-Searing.
Pre-Searing was just fun. I also like the quest system in this game. The quests take some doing but are not like Everquests "Quests" at all. In Everquest you gotta have a notebook to take notes and 3 weeks to chip away at the quest. Quests in Guild Wars are tasks that can be knocked out in 15-45 minutes. This allows a hardcore gamer to sit down and do 5 quests or a casual gamer to sit down and do 1 quest. Very cool.
Post-Searing! Arg! I was at first very disapointed. The amount of terrain to be explored was very discouraging... And it is MUCH harder to navigate. With all the terrain scorched it's also less attractive scenery in Post-Searing.
However, as soon as I figured out how to travel forward using the primary missions, I was having fun again. By pushing forward using the primary missions, I'm able to break up all this unexplored terrain.
I am having a blast so far.

the only thing that gets you past the intial purpose of the game, is to find friends who play similar to you and are willing to discuss strategies in game.

Some people rush missions because they want to see what cool new things lie just around the bend in the next mission. I'm still amazed at what the developers have been able to create.
When I stood there on a small hill and looked up at the waterfall on one edge of my screen and stone towers on the other, I just couldn't help but be amazed and hoped I could get to the next area to see what new sights would unfold.
As far as friends go, it usually takes just one good party of adventuring to make a friend or ally. I made one ally just by joking about this other guy in our party who kept getting himself killed. A reckless Wa/Mo. Who would have thought? On another occasion I added a new guild mate when he started the conversation with "nice cape" after recognizing the standard.
