Color me confused, but it appears that the only way to play Factions is through the Guild Wars module. This would be fine, except it gives me no option to create a factions character. Is it expecting me to delete one of my other characters? I have put 30+ hours into each of my characters, and as much as i want to try this game, I am not deleting one of my other characters.
If there is some obviously simple way around this I would appreciate it if you would point it out to me. thanks.

send yourself one of those guest invites to a temp email account for the weekend.FACTIONS gives you 2 ADDITIONAL slots on a merged retail account so you can have each new profession with no deleting of existing characters

Make a new account would be the "obviously simple way" you're looking for, if I did indeed understand the question correctly.
But besides, this is just a beta. When Factions is released, you and everyone else, will get 2 extra character slots on your Factions account. If you purchased Factions of course.
