controlling towns
jimmyhats
maybe im missing something here, but i cant for the life of me figure out how to take control of a town/outpost.... anyone know?
jmj102
Not sure if you can do that in this preview event. I think it might be either by winning the 12 vs 12 matches, or winning the missions like jade quarry and fort. Whats really freaky is that I can see "jimmyhats" gives up in amatz basin right now. what a coincidence.
jimmyhats
yuh thats me.... but you can def. control towns.... click a town on the map but do not go to it... the little popup window that gives you the town info tells you what guild is currently in control of it
Linkusmax
Your guild members purchase standing with kurzick faction whoever has the most gets the best towns.
jimmyhats
that doesnt answer the question at all.
zoozoc
i believe this is how you "buy" a town, not sure totally because i havnt done it yet, but it makes sense. Using your lurzick/luxon faction you have earned you go to the alliance rating guy in pve and give him 5000 faction in order to increase you alliance rating by 10. Yoo continue to do this till you get enough to meet the requirememnts to "buy" the town, not sure if you keep your rating or if you spend it when you buy a town though.
jimmyhats
thats kinda what i was guessing, and it does seem to make sense.... does anyone know for sure though? i know guilds are controlling towns, where are the people from these guilds who can tell me what they did, cold hard fact?

I think I have an idea on how it might work...
You trade in faction for alliance standing. That's a given and easily understood now.
Say there are 5 towns (A, B, C, D, E; A is closest to the capital and E is farthest).
A requires 500 standing, B 400, C 300, D 200, E 100.
Your guild gains 100 standing. You automatically, without doing anything, gain control of town E.
You reach the 200 mark on standing. You lose control of E, but gain control of D.
You reach 300, you lose control of D but gain control of C, and so on.
Now, say there are guilds already occupying A-E. You gain enough standing to occupy E (by having more than whatever it currently takes, which is probably going to be an always increasing number). The current leader of E gets knocked off. Now say you gain enough to move into D, you bump that leader down into E.
I 'think' that's how it works or is going to work.

i believe thats how it works also.
This would require you to make BIG alliances and gather loads of faction into your alliance if you want control of the big big cities

I hope I'm wrong, but it feels like this means that 95% of the alliances with not so competitve guilds in it (pve or pvp) won't frequently have access to this. Even if there's 50 outposts to divide, there's thousands upon thousands of guilds out there.
And it's kinda lame that you don't get to attack outposts to take them over, but you could get a random one. It would be more exciting if there was more direction in which outpost you'd want to have, I think.

Hi, I'm a member of TTA (We had control of House Zu Heltzer a few hours ago). Now Fun Lovin Kriminals owns it.
It basically works like this (I think):
The best town to own is House Zu Heltzer (being the capital, Cavalon for the Luxons).
The guild with the most alliance standing will take control of it.
Next to House Zu Heltzer is Altrum Ruins which is currently under our control.
The closer an outpost to House Zu Heltzer is, the more 'important' it is. So the guild with the 2nd most Alliance standing will get control of the 2nd closest outpost to House Zu Heltzer.
You get alliance standing by trading in 5000 Kurzik/Luxon Faction to the NPC in the guild hall.
I hope that made sense.

Devilru thanks for that explenation. But what are the benefits other than Wauw they are controlling the town.
Thats what im wondering.
AND !
This system is not realy fair now is it. It should be cooler the way tombs is run. The way it is now makes it work like this.
First you need 5k faction, than 50k than 500k than 50000k than 5000000k right ?

Thanks for the information, if your guild alliance controls a town what can you do with the it?
SilentAssassin
devilru, how much alliance standing are we talking about?
500?
500?
Linkusmax
Were currently sitting on 648 standing.
But closeness isn't the determining factor because the third best is down the bottom (somthing basin) I think it is determined by importance and whether the town will contain an elite mission etc in the future.

EDIT:

How much standing do you get for the 5k faction? Is the the previously stated 10? |
It's really strange though because we have 648 standing. We either gained 8 or lost 2 standing, we don't know what that's about.

When you 'donate' 5,000 faction your standings goes up by 10.
Linkusmax
Im sure Anet will run it in seasons like the ladder to ensure fairness.

One speculation is that if you donate your faction to the other side (ie, luxons instead of kurzicks) then you lose 8 points from the kurziks.

Hmm I already sensed I was missing something, now it seems clear. I've not seen many guildies online these days and I'm sure we did not choose a site at all (maybe this also explains why I'm unable to jump to the guildhall in factions?). Anyway, thanx for the explanation! I hope taking control wont be restricted to elite guilds/alliances in future, since the majority of the guilds consist of ocassionally now and than players

So, this pretty much is only for the pro guilds because I don't think huge beginner guilds with lots of members will ever control a town...
Linkusmax
I wouldn't exactly call TTA pro, its not like we have any entry requirements besides maturity and being an Australian New Zealander. Its just we have alot of active members which helps immensly.
