if you have your own webhosting with limited space and people randomly start new threads taking more space on your webhosting and you run into space problems. This also causes more load on the MySQL server. Would you not want people to use search first?

First, yes I do in fact have my own forums and they are very popular with over 10,000 user registrations. A single post takes up about 1500 bytes more than a reply which is pretty inconsequential and takes about 0.00000000001% SQL CPU time if that to process since it is all in the same join anyway... and before you go to the next level of explaining to me how I am wrong about that... I am a DBA and I do know how it works better than most.
Second, you should look up the word random in the dictionary. There was nothing random about my post. If anything it was redundant, which is pretty much an antithesis to random. Now there are some medium sized words in there, but since you are a search expert I don't think you will have any trouble finding them at dictionary.com.
