Purple dropped Salvageable Armor? What is it?
Witt78
I was out running a buch of quests last night. I seemed to be having REALLY good luck getting good blue drops and several really good purple drops.
One of the items that dropped was a blue "Shaman Gear" item that can be used for salvaging... This item had an "Un-Identified" stat on it. As soon as I identified it, I unlocked the "Rune of Wilderness Survival" I was pleased.
Now 30 minutes later... I got a similar "Shaman Gear" item... But this one was not blue... it was purple, and when I identified it, the item did not appear to have any special properties about it. I also did not unlock any skills or items either.
What are these purple salvagable items used for? Should I just buy the expert salvage kit and use them for salvage??
Thanks

um... yeah if you get an identafaction kit, ID it, then it will say: you've found a rune(or something like that don't remember), then use an Expert Savaging kit on it, and you'll salvage an Rune. they usually sell for big nowadays
hope you find something good :-D

You salvage them anyways.
Id first.
If you use expert kit, you sometimes recover a rune (if you unlocked it or the item is a rune armour salvage) otherwise you often get rare crafting materials, Steel ingots, bolt of silk etc.
edit: Dooh forgot to put id first.

you will have a chance of getting a rune if it says rune there is no guarantee on it
the only guarantee is that the chance goes down to nothing using a regular kit (or as close to 0 as possible)

You will only see the "unlocked <class> rune of minor/major/superior <attribute>" once per each type of rune. After that, you need to expert ID all the blue/purple/gold salvage gear you find to see if you will be pulling a rune from it.
I.E: I got a rune of minor vigor a long time ago and it said "unlocked" for me before I salvaged it. Now, I have found more since then, but I haven't known it would be minor vigor because I already unlocked the rune and made it available for my PvP char.
Hope this helps

Once you ""unlock" the rune you can use it in on your PvP player if you have one :-D

Actually, lately I've found a -lot- of purple salvage items that weren't unidentified. In other words, they contained no runes. When you use the Identify Kit on them, nothing happens... no rune unlocked, nothing. I don't know why these are around... thus far, they haven't salvaged any better than normal items. Could be a bug? Last night alone I found 4-5 purple salvage items that IDed into nothing.
Edit: Also, though the message might not appear that you unlocked a rune after getting multiples, the item will still tell you what kind of rune there is. It won't just leave you in the dark.
In other words, if you've already unlocked a Rune of Minor Vigor, when you ID a salvage item with a minor rune in it, it'll be called a "So-and-so of Minor Vigor", or something to that amount. At least, that's always been the case for me.

I have found MANY purple and one yellow armor drops and not a single one of them had any runes in them. (yes, I always ID first). I've found a multitude of blue armor drops and I don't recall any of them NOT having a rune. Either I have the strangest luck or something is amiss.
On the subject of IDing, I accidentally salvaged a blue armor drop (with expert kit) before IDing it and it gave me an unidentified rune. *stunned* I then used an ID kit on it and had a rune same as I would had I IDed first. I'm kicking myself for not getting pics. The odds may be better IDing it first, but you don't HAVE to. (I still do, and would recommend likewise)

Thank you for the information. I'm going to log in and buy an expert salvage kit right now... Let's see what I come up with.

I accidently expert salvaged a blue item once without identifying it.
The end result was an unidentified rune for a ranger which was then identified (beast mastery rune).

I have a online friend that swears he has better luck getting runes and weapon upgrades if he doesn't ID them first...I am a bit to skeptical to try this but just thought I'd put it out here for scrutiny!

you unlock the rune when you id it, correct?
since there is a chance of not salvaging a rune it seems like if your goal is to unlock runes you would want to id first, to unlock whatever is on it, if anything, and then salvage to try to get it.
if you salvage first i guess you'll save money on the id kit, but you won't unlock anything if you don't salvage the rune.
if someone could prove if salvaging an unidentified item has a greater chance of getting the rune it might be worth it.

thats what I thought...if I ID an item and it doesn't say item unlocked and I salvage it and don't get a rune or an upgrade (provided I haven't already unlocked the item) but 5 wood planks or whatever I don't feel cheated, but if I just salvaged it I'd always wonder if it had something on it or not.
