Well anyone that tells you that gladiator armor makes a W/E look like a noob is a complete noob himself. But right now the only thing you possibly can do is save up and maybe farm for some charr hides for the quick cash. Either that or start a new character with a class with cheaper and easier armor. (I thinkn elementalists have the cheapest IMHO)

Don't sweat the small stuff. One of my chars is wearing a partial ascalon/gladiator hybrid set. Partially for the damage absorption, partially for the extra energy.
So what if the outfit doesn't match. Be different. In Time you'll make a full set.

I honestly do not know why people care so much about their appearance in this game. I come from playing Diablo a lot and in that game i didn't care what i looked like as long as i had boatloads of damage and armor

It won't take that long but I think you're in for some farming. Go to Yak's or Lions and farm for a few hours. You'll be surprised how fast it comes back.
Everyone does something stupid, the game's not old enough to be too concerned. If you have a guild talk to them. I know we would help out a guild mate even though we'd laugh at them a bit as well.

So should I remake the Platemail set or stick with Gladiator? Your advice is much appreciated.

For a Warrior, I personally like Platemail Armor. Then again I play a W/Mo so I dont deal much with energy besides healing breeze, and the every few minutes of sprinting or flurries. Then again, I can take balthazar's spirit and pretty much have an infinite mana pool if I'm being hit.

For the spells you are using, how much energy do they cost and how much do you have now? You may not like the glad set, but for energy heavy warriors, it's very useful.
At level 20, 3k shouldn't be that hard to come by. Run a few missions again, or go out and explore some of the areas you haven't gotten to check out. By the time you finish exploring, you'll have a good portion of that after drops. It won't take too long to do and you can look for new towns that you haven't been to. Win/win.

well Vitkencja Gwar is also W/E. I'm using mixture of gladiator&ascalon armor and it works very well. From gladiators set i have only brest plate and leggins. that gives me 5 extra energy. plus it looks extremly cool on my axe warrior chick. even though i can probably acquire something better, it's possible that i'll stick with this combination for fashion reasons

when I was a w/e I bought the gladiator set for my male w/ and .. the extra five energy is just not worth looking like a total dick 
so I went an farmed and bought the plate mail set (wich looks uber cool by the way) and left on the gladiator gauntlets cause I look cooler then every other full set plate wearing w/

Sadly, the best armor combinations for Warriors tend to look kinda stupid. But who cares. The ideal armor layout as far as I'm concerned is Gladiator legs, feet and hands, 85 def chest (wyvern/dragon) and whatever head has the right bonus. Unless you're a knockdown build, in which case replace the Gladiator gloves with the knockdown ones. I couldn't care less if I don't look so cool when my armor is giving me solid stat bonuses over the other guy's 'cool' platemail.

And lastly, Wyvern and Platemail has the same stat (both are 85AL +10 vs physical attacks). Check it out.
