Did anyone try charming the green-named spiders in pre-searing? I remember reading a few posts about it, but recall the outcomes.

As for Scapes, he's a nice pet too. A bit prone to violence, though.

Do you mean the moss spiders? A friend of mine charmed one this past beta. Very cool. They'd go great with a necromancer/ranger, if anyone were ever inclined to play such a combination.

I don't believe that you can charm any of the insects found in Pre-Searing Ascalon. Besides, the skill is called Charm Animal; last time I checked, insects were not animals

Edit: Scratch that, since it seems from the above post that you can. Doesn't make sense, for the reason above, but whatever floats Arena.net's boat. You just had to post that right before I posted this, didn't you?

Did you actually see the spider as a pet? Because the general consensus is that they were /not/ tameable this past beta.

Hey, but that's useful in PvP, no?

Yes, it certainly looked like he had one following him around and fighting for him. I'm pretty sure it was a moss spider... It was one of the small ones, that don't drop down from the trees. It was definately a spider, though.

Most interesting.

Perhaps my lizard was tameable as well. Wish I'd tried it Sunday rather than just have gone off of what happened earlier on in the beta.

I'm starting to doubt myself, now. I wish I'd bothered to take a few screenshots.

If he was partied with you then you should know. The spider would have shown up in the party window as part of you group.

There's the Lynx (which has additional modifiers) and then there's Melandru's Stalker.

The latter is charmed by all who complete the second ranger quest in Eden.

Not for "charm animal" purposes, but insects are animals. Did you think they were plants? They're specifically members of the kingdom Animalia, phylum Arthropoda, subphylum Uniramia, superclass Hexapoda, class Insecta. Not only are they animals, but they're the largest class of animals.

As an addendum to the above, spiders are not insects either, though they are still animals. They are in fact also arthropods, but diverge after that point falling into the class arachnida (subphylum cheliceriformes), along with scorpions, whip scorpions and ticks for example.

Has anyone actually charmed a bear? I heard they use a Charm Breaker skill or some such.

Unless I'm mistaken, the higher one's Beast Mastery, the less time it takes to charm an animal.

...dependent upon the animal, of course.

Bears have been practically impossible to Charm, since they've been found to have a seemingly endless use of Break Charm, but I think people have said it has been done.

And with regards to my post about insects and Charm Animal, you really have to forgive me. I've felt like crap these past few days, especially today, and I'm not really thinking about things much before I post them. I'm actually decently smart, but with the amount of stupid comments I make you're definitely not seeing that side I think I'm going to go sleep more now, give my brain a rest...

Now that's an interesting subject in itself, but this will be somewhat of an off-topic response. You could say that, in thinking about the relationships between men and women, that women have tamed (read: whipped) men into submission. But I won't go into that topic much; definitely something more for the Off-Topic and Absurd forum.

That picture freaks me out. It wasn't a good thing for my parents to let me watch Arachniphobia when I was little, especially because of the scene where the old man steps into his slipper and gets bitten by the spider. Every now and then I step on my slippers just to make sure there are no spiders in there. Call me paranoid, but that movie has probably scarred me for life.

That, and the scene in Jurassic Park where the velociraptor lunges from the tubes down in the power room. I used to have to check behind my shower curtains to make sure there wasn't one hiding behind them. I was a very impressionable child...

Ugh, if it's going to be camel spiders than I probably shouldn't check this thread again until a couple of days later. Those bad boys are huge!! Not something I'd like to have as an actual pet, but they would be nice to have as a pet in the game.

Edit: Thought I'd beat you to the punch with the post, but you got there first and I caught a glimpse of those spiders. They're still creepy...

Yeah, camel spiders are not cute. They don't have the big, cute, googly eyes that jumping spiders have.

i saw some toads in the last couple BWE's and they were fully animated...
i mean they blinked and ate flies...
but they didn't jump/walk..

wouldn't it be cool to walk around with a toad on your shoulder?

oh and it WOULD be really cool if you could name your pet...

if you could instead of going out to PvP with strider, strider and strider you could see which one is your strider...
