Hi. I'm a Mo/Mes and im a dedicated healer. Of course i chose mes for the energy steal and everywhere i see people say use channeling. Well, i tried using it several times but i didn't find it very useful as opposed to energy tap. Here is why channeling isnt helping me: i have found that if target ally is just a little bit beyond aggro range i can still heal him. This way i can heal and rarely get hit myself. The bad thing in this position is that (according to channeling you steal energy from nearby enemies) being far away from enemies i cant steal any energy and if i close up i take damage. So that's why i preffer using energy tap (it gives me 12 energy at 10 inspiration). Now i would like to use channeling, as it is better over the long run, but how to use it while staying away from the fight in the same time? I am having trouble being a good healer because of running out of energy in those long fights .
All advices are appreciated. Thank you.
How to best use Channeling?

If you're going to use Channeling, also consider Balthazar's Spirit or Essence Bond [I'll go into them later]. Having both, while under fire, unless they're capable of out-damaging your healing, you'll be able to keep yourself alive quite easily.
Every time you take damage, +1 energy. Every time you cast a spell, each foe around you gives you +1 energy. If you're being pounded on by 3 warriors, that's 3 energy after each hit, and another 3 for each spell, and you can just spam away.
You're not the monk under fire? That's OK, move next to the enemy anyway. If they DO aggro on you, it's a good thing. If they don't, then you'll still gain the benefits of channeling. If they continually ignore you, cancel Balthazar's Spirit and recast it on your ally, and they'll gain the extra energy from it as they get pounded on, which can be a real help to a monk. If you have Essence Bond, then you can do the same thing, and instead of your ally gaining the energy, you do. Either way, the net change in energy is the same.
As to which to choose from Balthazar's Spirit and Essence Bond, either one works to the same effect on yourself without needing points in any attributes. Balthazar's Spirit will help get energy to the person it's cast on, while Essence Bond is always focused to you. Really just depends on whether you need the energy more when you're not the one being attacked, or the other monk in your group.
Anyway, I've rarely had resource management problems using the Channeling + whichever maintained enchantment combo, except where the enemy uses a lot of enchantment removal. You pretty much recover energy too fast over time to be hit badly from energy control tactics, although it's bound to hurt still.
It's hardly perfect, but I suggest trying it nevertheless. Good luck with whatever you do use.

channeling are for those people who want to do damage in close range... example those mesemer who use rogue armor can use it to make up for the energy.

Wow. Thanks very much. It really helped. I was doing Abbadon's Mouth mission today and just got Balthazar's and Channeling (i dont have yet Essence Bond, need to scour some more). At first i died not being used to them, but after that every time i saw a bunch of Jade i was next to them and at the ending of the mission, there was a battle that lasted around 20 minutes and i was going where the "ahem" (u know what, i dont want to spoil much) could hit me and we lasted till the end with none dying except 2 elementalists that were not infused. And i even got a "good healing" at the next mission area . This is definately the skill set ill use and ill try and get Essence Bond as soon as possible (it was nice but i still died 3 times with Balthazar's and i prefer sitting in the back ).

Essence Bond can be found from the skill trainer in Beetletun.

Another trick you might try if you have energy issues is putting in Essence Bond on 2 - 4 people who get hit a lot. Also load in Blessed Signet (+3 energy for every enchantment you're maintaining. Can be used every 10 seconds. or, 6-12 energy every 10 seconds). For good measure, you can also load Dwayna's Kiss for use on people you're running Essence Bond on as each enchantment increases its healing power.
I've used this to great effect in PuGs where people just don't want to wait for monks to recharge energy (which seems to be most of them :P ). Not sure how effective it would be GvG, and arena battles don't provide much opportunity to explore tactics.

Slightly OT, but for Energy Tap users, you can sap 12 energy with only 9 in Inspiration instead of 10.

You might what to try Inspired Hex also. Plus if you have extra energy you can cast it on a foe
