PET ATTRIBUTE & LOCATION GUIDE
Dragon Incarnate
I'm creating this guide for my guild, and thought I'd share.
FYI: Testing is underway to provide exact numbers on the various pets. This information is based on player feedback, but will more than likely change once the testing is complete! So far the information for Stalker and Lizard may be changing to show them as almost comparible. I'll update this post once the test are completed.
Available Pets:
This is a general list of the kinds of pets, not name-specific listing of pets.
Bear
Bird
Cat
Lizard
Warthog
Wolf
Spider
-- :: PET ATTRIBUTES :: --
Note that pet abilities are also tied to your level of Beast Mastery.
The higher your attribute level the greater the pet. Information
gathered from various posts, especially from GammaRay on gwonline.net.
:TANK:
Bear - Slow Speed, High Damage, High Armor - The bear uses the skill
called Brutal Mauling. When being attacked by pre-searing aggressive
bears, the skill doesn't seem to do any more damage than normal attacks.
As the bear's attack power increases, it may have a more noticeable
effect (it might just be a 10% increase or something, that you wouldn't
notice at the base 5~7 damage).
:MEDIUM DAMAGE/MEDIUM ARMOR:
Warthog - Average Speed, Damage, and Armor
Wolf - Average Speed, Damage, and Armor
:HIGH DAMAGE/LOW ARMOR:
Lynx (Cat) - Average Speed, High Damage, Low Armor
Melandru's Stalker (Cat) - Average Speed, High Damage, Low Armor
:HIGH SPEED/LOW DAMAGE:
Moa Bird - High Speed, Low Damage, Average Armor
Strider (Bird) - High Speed, Low Damage, Average Armor
:ABOVE AVERAGE SPEED/HIGH DAMAGE:
Dune Lizard - Above Average Speed, High Damage, Below Average Armor
:LOW SPEED/HIGH DAMAGE:
Dire Black Widow Spider - Low Speed, High Damage & Poison Attacks -
Unknown Armor - touted as the most powerful pet in the game by the
handful that have gotten one. They start at level 20. Information is
sketchy on this, someone else with a spider has stated, "It had averge
damage, averge attack speed, averge defense, not alot of hp (i think)...
and have very very very low chance of poisioning (not completely sure on
the poison part yet)"
-- :: LOCATIONS FOR TAMING :: --
PRE-SEARING:
Bear - Wizard's Folly* (no longer available - patched)
Melandru's Stalker (Cat) - Reagent Valley
Strider (Bird) - Ascalon fields
Warthog - Northernlands
Wolf - Ascalon Fields, Reagent Valley
POST-SEARING:
Bear - Lornar's Pass
Dire Black Widow Spider - Underworld (after setting the reaper free at the monument near the tortured spirit village)
Dune Lizard - Amnoon Oasis
Lynx - Kryta Areas
Melandru's Stalker (Cat) - Old Ascalon**
Moa Bird - Ascalon fields
Warthog - Denravi Areas

** - There's only one on the map, to the far West, near Gate Guard
Hollis (entrance to the Breach).

There are numerous threads and posts on Guild Wars Guru that have the same information as this.
I never said it wasn't good natured, I'm simply stating that there are multiple sources on this topic and creating another one isn't needed.

This information should go into a permanent guide. There is a space setup for it under Creatures of Tyria (Tamable)...but of course, its empty. Enough people have questions about it that a permanent and comprehensive listing should be available. This is a good start towards accumulating all the data spread across multiple threads.

This is very helpfull, no matter what the 'Use Search' wingers say.

This is good info.
Had a pet fight in the arena. Bird vs lizard with no outside interference. The bird won. Unfortunately I didn't ask how much beast mastery the lizard's ranger had but I had 8.

Beastmasters, the points spent in ratio to improved Damage / AC / HP for pet.
With the skills it is actually fairly easy to see, but other than that it is total guess work.
I use my pet Lizard alot, but only have 5 points in Beast mastery, I use it as a tank / distraction and a general way of chewing away at monsters HP.
Is it worth the points if you dont use the skills?
How much does the beastmastery actually effect the base abilities of your pet?
If very little, then if you use your pet as I do, there would be little to no point in putting points in beast mastery and they could be used more effectively elsewhere.

Actually I realize that there are different type of black widow...
The one about the averge dmg/speed/armor/hp was on the "elder" black widow, not dire.
I believe that each prefix is different.
Dire- more offense, less defense
Elder- averge
hearty- more defense, less offense
Also, I am afraid that each pet might have more resistance against specific element of attacks.... might... back in bwe, my warthog take less damage from a lightning orb than me when I was wearing aeromancer armor.

More info from the tests being done:
First to answer one question, pets have the same base level HP as we do at corresponding levels. Now there should be no more arguement over what pet has the best HP -- it's all about the pet's natural AL. So far it looks like the Stalker and Lizard have the same Armor Level (60).
Beastmastery seems to influence the pet's power just like Marksmanship, Swordsmanship, Hammer Mastery, and Axe Mastery do, for future reference. At 0, the pet does something like 35% damage, and at 12 it's doing 100% damage. Indications that damage increase after 12 points is relatively minor for swords and other melee weapons means that for the most part, it's probably not really worth getting 16 BM unless you want to crank the most out of your pet heals and attack skills.
Weapon masteries after 12 do have diminished power increases. 13 has 104%, 14 has 107%, and so on and so forth. It's really just not worth the trouble, the expense, and the drain on your HP to load up to 16 on weapon mastery attributes. Beastmastery seems to follow the pattern, so you should be good at 12 BM.
If you use a major rune of beast mastery on a tamer's mask, you'll get +3 BM. Counter the HP loss with a superior vigor rune (or major if you won't miss the 10 HP). Boost your BM up to 9, so that you now have 12 (9+3) BM total. You've just saved yourself 49 attribute points over having brought your BM up to 12 without any modifiers. With the right runes and equipment, you can make yourself quite diverse.
Thank you to all those who appreciate this information, hopefully this is helpful. As a note, most of this information is being gathered from those performing the test, I'm just sharing the information.

Thanks to Lasher Dragon for pointing this out. In my previous post I had mistakenly added a line which stated that a 16 attribute in Marksmanship would = 115%. This was copied from a different source, and I didn't proof-read my post good enough. I went ahead and removed that line. Based on my calculations a 16 in any weapon attribute would = 110%. If this is a mistake please let me know.

Very informative thread, many thanks to the author!

This thread has so much misinformation...
If you want actual tested NUMBERS, look here: http://forums.gwonline.net/showpost....&postcount=123
All pets have the same Armor Level and attack speed and damage (with the exception of the spider, which has more damage output).
Sorry if this sounds rude, but it just seems like you were pulling infor out your ass.
