Spamming on Whisper to a friend

I just noticed that on the Guild Wars site that they talk about rules of conduct. They state that ALL spamming (multiple identical posts) is a breach of the rules, including while Whispering.

I'm in slight disagreement here.

I often spam some of my friends when I first get online so that they notice that I'm online too. Often, they are in a battle and miss a single line saying "Hello! I'm online now!" If I spam the same message 10 times, they are likely to notice me. I consider this a useful and non-irritating use of spam.

Sometimes I also spam when using the CTRL-click to target enemies and inform my party. This helps us to target the right enemy. The multiple lines of text are attention-getting and useful this way.

I think it is still valid to restrict whisper spam when it is from someone who is not on your friends list. That way irritating people can still be ignored.

I personally never spam to the world, or selling stuff, because I know how irritating it can get. But I would like to see the rules relaxed so that I don't have my account shut off by spamming my friends to get their attention.

Any thoughts???

I am only assuming here....

I doubt that they would randomly pick up you spamming your friends and take action, it is most likey there for people being harrased by others in 'whisper'.

I do have one suggestion that may reduce the need to spam to get a friend's attention. Play a special sound or have an icon appear when a friend whispers to you. By having another means of getting their attention, the need for spam is reduced.

I hate when people spam call target. I hate it so much. It plays a sound and brings up an icon next to the persons name. There is absolutely no reason to spam it 10 times.

I hate it too... occasionally (like when targetting a healer) it helps to call the shot 3 or 4 times, but 10 times in a row... that's just being retarded.

As for spam whisper, I imagine that they would only take action if the person is a problem, ie. if you report a person for spam whispering you.

I see people doing that a lot, but usually it's because they have called the most important target on the field and failed to get any response from the warriors. For example, the enemy gleefully pounding the hell out of the healers while the Wamos are oblivious 40 feet ahead.

BTW, when in battle I click on a target just a few times to get attention.
The 10 times is when I just get online and am trying to find one of my friends. If they are in the heat of battle, it's easy to miss even 10 messages!!! (They scroll by VERY fast!)

So, do you know if they only take action on spam when reported, or is there an automated counter in the software keeping track of offenses??? I'm not privy to this knowledge. (I would like the facts, please.)

If they are relying on reporting, then I have nothing to fear.

I don't think it would be automatic. It's the same as casinos too, I think that they only took action against casinos because people complained about it. If people complain that means it's a problem, if nobody complains then... if it ain't broke etc. etc.
