Ok, I entered the post at 9th lvl (almost 10th) and I'm 12 R/W now.... My question is: Why am I not getting any experience from lvl 5 Charr's who come at me like a pack of rabid pitt bulls??

I would think that soloing would add to the difficulty of the mission and grant you at least a few exp.... If I solo the Boss in the Breach (the bridge guy) I still only get like 5 exp or so.... Any help here??

BTW- I tried searching for this already, but my search skills are proving to be lacking, so I come to you for help....

Monsters that are your level will give you 100 exp, divided between party members. Monsters of lower levels give less exp, and higher levels more.

Level 12 characters should not be fighting level 5 monsters, even when soloing. Get some henchmen and fight harder monsters.

And level 9 is overkill for exiting pre-searing. The game is designed for you to exit at about level 3 or 4.

lol, I exited at level 1 by mistake. When I exit pre-searing with my next character though it'll probably be at a high level since I want to fully explore ascalon first.

OK.... I didn't know what lvl I should've left.... I was just doing a mission (I thought) for Sir Tydus when I found myself in the Post-Searing.... I really didn't know what was happening untill I watched the cut-scene about the searing....lol So, I guess I should be looking for some harder monsters (although I don't really like using the NPC's (they are stupid AI), and most of the people I have partied with have no sense of tactics or teamwork.... I guess I will grab the suicidal fighter and the homicidal monk NPC's (the monk does come in handy in a pinch)

Have you done the Great Northern Wall mission yet?

Sounds like you need to move on in the game a little. If you haven't, the entrance is up past Tydus, follow the sign to the Great Northern Wall and when you get there you will see an Enter Mission button, I suggest you take some other players with you, when you have finished that one you get transported to the next area (fort ranik) then onto Surmia, Nolani Academy, Yaks Bend...at this stage the game gets a lot harder

I kind of got stuck in between doing the Great Northern Wall Mission and the Fort Ranik Mission. Mostly because I wanted to finish all my quests before doing the next mission. Little did I know, that certain quests (like Fires in the East) weren't really easy to find without doing the Ranik mission first and unlocking the Frontier Gate. Basically, just do the missions if you get stuck.

I've been to the Northern Wall, and just see people, no quests, no gate out (other than the one back to Ascalon City).

I walked to Runik, and found no quests there either. How do you unlock them?

The "Missions" people talk about at the Northern Wall and Runik are NOT done by going to a NPC or walking out a gate!

When you are in those locations an extra button will appear on the bottom of your PARTY window. Gather your group(Henchman or human) then click the button...the mission will begin!!

Well, I have done all the quests I can, as I am short on RAM and after the first Northern Wall mission my computer decided it had enough and "it" won't let me go any further (keep getting disconnected).... I guess I can wait till I have more RAM, but I don't know how long that will be as I am a poor person, so, I continually hunt Charr near Piken square to pass the time.... I was just wondering why I was not getting anymore exp for killing them.... So, I have a few questions.... Should I continue on and let my minimum RAM rape me when I am in the middle of a quest or should I just quit playing GW untill I am finally able to afford the extra RAM?? Also.... I have 256 RAM right now... will 512 be enough to keep me in the game?? And last but not least.... where can I find out what kind of RAM (speed, DDR thing, etc.) I need for my computer??

PS- I want to thank everyone for their input on my dilemma, as it has helped

Not really. If you do all the quests available in Pre-Searing you are going to be at least level 6 or 7 without even trying.

Personally I think it is a good thing that you don't get experience from killing lower level monsters. It encourages you to progress through the game and prevents players from grinding through levels in "easy" areas.

Khyron,

512 Ram will play the game (albeit quite slowly). Ihave played it on my wife's
(hand-me-down) computer which is a pentium 3, 800MHz with 512 RAM and Nvidia, 64 video RAM. I have experienced NO problems on that machine.

With two other computers Pentium 4's 3+ GHz, one with 1 GB mem and 128 Video Ram (Play is great) one with 2 GB Mem and 256 Video Ram (Play is absolutely stupendous).

Remember RAM is King! The more the better. A good Video card, with at least 128 Ram is Queen. Royalty makes gaming wonderful.

Having low RAM would not disconnect you. Being disconnected is entirely a connection-based problem.

Well, I found out that my connectivity problems were caused by VeriZon.... but I still need more RAM for my computer.... a friend suggested newegg.com, (the same place I got my new vid card) and I found a nice 512MB set for a decent price....

BTW.... I think I am your average gamer.... those that are less than 1337, go soloing against the Charr in the Breach and then tell me if you think you should get experience for killing 2 4th level Martyrs/Overseers.... while there are 2 5th level Stalkers/ pelting you with burning penetrating arrows, and a 5th level Axe Warrior/Sword Warrior trying to cleave your head from your shoulders....
Uhh, should I get experience for slaughtering the entire Breach single-handedly??

Edit: I did get experience for a couple of 'em though.... My point here is that the sum of all the players in the above example should be more dangerous than the individual monster, therefore maybe yielding more experience??

might it be that you run out of space on your hard-disk? maybe the game is trying to download new content from the internet and since you dont have any space left on your hard-disk it can't do so. try deleting/uninstalling a few less used software if that is the case and see if the game lets you progress.

You dont get XP for killing monsters that are so far below your level. I don't know any game that does, they always work in a system that the higher you are above the enemy the less XP you get and at one point (6 levels higher I *think*) you stop getting XP altogether.

Although you do get more XP for soloing, once you are past that level limit, you still don't get any XP.

I don't mind this, but I wish they would make it so that the low level enemies don't aggro to you, would be cool if they ran away from you instead

*added* I have 512 MB RAM too and the game runs beautifully.

I left pre-searing at level 8 because I wanted to explore the whole area, and help a couple of friends through. There's been level 12's hanging around there too. So what if you want to take your time? I think its the best way to play.

I had the same problem with my RAM, I only had 256 and I kept getting it shutting down on me, thankfully thats been dealt with (I now have an extra 512 coasting me through).

Nothing wrong with killing lower level enemies, you just won't get anything until you go somewhere more challenging. But don't feel the need to rush.

Yes.... The Backstabber was an influence on more than a few of my devious and diabolical chars over the years....

I soloed in the Breach a few times as a Level 13 Ranger, 'till moving on to greener (literally) pastures. Granted I had a pet as a little bit of backup, but it was mostly just me. It wasn't too easy, but having a Monk Healing Spell helped keep me alive. It certainly wasn't overly difficult, nothing like the later areas.

Think of it like this: you wouldn't gain any additional maths skills by reading a maths book written for 4 year olds, would you? It's the same here. Your character isn't learning anything new about fighting by engaging groups of monsters so far below his/her skills, so he/she isn't learning anything new, so he/she isn't gaining any experience from it. The clue is in the meaning of the word 'experience'. I'll grant you that even a level 20 player would have trouble with level 5 Charr if there were enough of them, and it would be nice if there was some kind of reward for killing mobs which are extremely large for your level. But unfortunately the game itself doesn't work like that, it only gives experience for killing monsters on an individual basis.

There are ways for a lvl 20 to kill millions of lvl 5's, I know someone who probably could, and he's a monk.

And there are rewards for soloing large groups of low level enemies: loot, you get tons of loot for soloing large groups of enemies
