This post changed my view on the subject. Thanks. My simple minded brain did not think of it in a realistic POV.

Yes it does, but it is legal on the playing field, as if there are monks or other warriors and Mesmers you could help save that one pin'd to the wall by killing of one of them. Sure its cheap to pin them against a wall, but it is also cheap to run away from the combat isn't it?

I don't even know what to say to this... This game is supposed to be about battles and strategy. If it were turn based then I would understand a problem with this strat, but comon... You are not supposed to be able to run through people, what is the point of that? Quite frankly, if you get pinned than you deserve it, I have yet to be pinned in any battle, even against organized guilds. Being a running/casting class is all about avoidance, and making it easier on them to get away is just senseless. Also, I use pinning to get wars off of me, by running through the throng of battle and having them get stuck on the people in the middle, so I can reposition and heal. taking out pinning would make the PvP experience more watered down and less about skill.

The point of those skills is to stop a runner when you are chasing them by yourself. The point of actually physically pinning somebody down is that it takes coordination and bringing 1 or 2 extra characters out of a battle to pin somebody down, which in and of itself is difficult. Then again if you stand there and get pinned, you deserve it. All you have to do is move out of the way. And quite frankly, when I get encircled by all players (not against a wall) my healing and the other monk usually keeps me alive till I can get out or they give up and move on to another target. It doesnt even make sense to allow you to run through people in a battle game...

why should players who don't pay attention be rewarded with an out when they are trapped? Seems like a punishment to players who organize and pin to me...

So don't stand against a wall. Body blocking is one of the parts I like about this game, it makes the PvP a lot more realistic.

how can u get pin down if you character didn't intentionally have your back against the wall? It's big playing field. You should be aware of your surroundings. I don't see anything wrong with this stregy.

I kind of like how I can be pinned. It's not easy to get pinned, unless you see the 2-3 warriors running toward you and just stood there and accept that you were gonna get pinned.

When I see people running toward me, I'll be sure to run away as a caster, even if it means canceling my current spell to do so. I like how it is right now, making me able to run through people will make it not as exciting to me.

Don't forget, more tactical. Once you get skilled players, all sorts of tricks and strategys will form, this one is realistic, but you can easily counter it especially with a very decent nuker, it pays not to stay in one place for too long

Otoh ....

If pinning is representing *realism* with physical combat, then how do you account for pressing one button to attack someone and in effect you can chase them as long as they run hands-free should you choose, unless they find a way to shake you? If you want *real* combat strategy / tactics, they should drop the target-magnet
