Well this stylist-need-threads come on a regular base. And yes there needs to be a way to edit apperance. Those who don't want to change it, fine have it your way no one makes you to change it.
Fact is that most who say no now will use the feature aswell when it is implemented.

I think its a good idea, make it somewhat expensive, say uh...1k per hair change, 5-10k per face change, 1k for size change, etc. It'll be a good money sink considering how fast money is coming into the economy, and this in now way imbalances the game.

I for one agree, that appearance is important. But instead of completely changing your character, maybe just allow you to change your haircut or your hair color. Maybe have special items that allow you to change your hair style, and dyes that can be used on your hair. But these dyes wont be default colors that u can choose when you make your character but different colors. I personally have seen my close more then a 5 times so far. Being able to change hair color would definatly decrease the chance of seeing your clone. I am against being able to change your face however, it just wouldnt feel as if it was your character, and too much to do with plastic surgery =P

i think this falls under the same catagory as a name change

Gaile said that they are working on a way to change characters names but at the present time they are UNABLE to change a name (and appearance i presume) not that they are UNWILLING

if they find a way to separate a name from being tied to an account character maybe they will be able to do the same with appearance

all anybody can do is wait and see

I'm not exactly sure if it is exactly the same (but then again, I don't know how the server works ). Not being able to change the name is understandable, since you have to make sure there are no duplicate names, as well as update all of the names on guild/friends lists. But for appearances, I think it's much simpler, and doesn't take into account any of those factors. But again, I have no idea how the server/database works, so this guess is as good as any. I sure hope that they will allow appearance changes though.

The countering inflation is another good point that never occured to me.

funny that they go to all the effort to ensure no duplicate names, and yet they allow duplicate clan tags to run rampant

i too think appearances should be simpler since changing your guild cape appearance is really easy thing to do.

of course a dev would know best about how difficult all of this is so if a dev weighed in on if they intend to do anything about the changing your appearance issue, that would be ideal

I'm not cool with name change since that's our actual guild/friend/character ID, however I know a lot of people who would like to alter appearance. I think the following things should be available for a fee::

-hair styles and colors
-tattoos added and (for a higher price) removed
-clothing colors (dye doesn't seem to work too well for me)

I don't think facial features should be alterable (that or for a very heavy price... believe someone mentioned plastic surgery with a rusty sword? or perhaps an axe ) And I 150% think that changing gender should never be an option. These features and these limitations would add to the RP experience... and those who don't care about appearance would never have to use them. This wouldn't add server lag, it wouldn't give any advantages... there is absolutely no reason to not do it.

SWG had complete body/face/hair customization and even a profession so you could get it changed in game at anytime. Guild Wars is extremely lacking in player customization and it hurts the game more than helping it.

I just have to say that I almost completely disagree with changibf appearance, just because I...do. I don't know. The only situation I can think of where it WOULD be a good idea is if there is an update or an expansion that gives more facial/hair features. In that case, we should be able to take our character back to the character customization screen and look at the new options, and change what we see fit. But other than that, although I recognize that it does not affect me if other people do it, I just don't LIKE the idea.

the ability to change appearance would be way cool....and it would be realistic...people do it all the time....even by gaining/losing weight...building muscle mass by werking out...changing hair color ( ! ) and even clothes styles say from punkins to rappish....it happens everyday and in real life right before our eyes......get it done

I have to agree with everyone quoting him; hair dye and haircuts have been around for a long time, and people grow moustaches, beards and shave every day. At a minmum Hairstyle/Hair colour/Degree of facial hair should be selectable.

Agreed. I would like to see a LITTLE more customization in these areas. And I see no reason why it shouldn't be allowed at any time in the game.

As someone said, SWG had a GREAT character customization system, and while I'm not looking for that level here in a free MMO, I would 'like' to see more customization if possible.

well I gotta admit I was dissapointed with my mesmers 15k set of rogue armor (looking alot like normal rogue's cept the chest). I feel appearance is important so every player dosen't look the same, the dye system is ok but could use afew more armors.

changing hair would be a good money sink.
maybe even require materials for the elite hair cuts and dye for changing color.

changing anything else though seems a bit questionable.
why not let you change sex while your at it.

I'd like to cross reference Fable here, where everything you do affects your appearance. Your muscles grow larger if you do lots of physical stuff, if you're mostly active at night you grow pale, you keep scars, etc. Although I don't expect it to be this detailed, I have to back up chpmmttn (how the hell do you pronounce that?) and Epinephrine (a drug?) and Dr Slugfly (f*ckin weirdo!)

I don't think sex should be able to be changed, since often your name has something to do with your sex (so usually a name change would be needed with a sex change). It would be awkward to see a male warrior named "Princess Fiona" or something like that.

I agree that I'm favoring appearance changes mostly because I want to be able to change my hair color, but I think many others would still like to be able to change their face, hair style, and skin color. (maybe even body size), which is why I think it would be best to at least leave that possibility open.

You also paid a monthly fee and got only 1 character on the server. Yes SWG allowed you to do alot of things with your character ( visually ) but theres no story line and the game was unbalanced. Now they are trying to change the game to be more like GW / WoW / EQ but there still no story. You want to be an image designer ? go ahead it only takes a couple of weeks of casual mindless grinding.... Oh and for a little well known secret ( there was never a CU alpha and beta is on Live now)..

Bah sorry had to vent..............

GW is a great game and seems well thought out and balanced. Changing a characters appearance after he has been created is just not something any of us should be concerned about.

all this talk about only changing your hair is pretty silly

the tools are already in the game to let players change much more than just the hair. to implement an entirely new system which strips most of the already-present customization features would be worthless and aggravating

what they need to do is let you access the same exact screen that you can customize everything with at the start. you should be able to change your hair, your face, your body size...everything that they already let you change at the start of the game

as for it costing gold to do this; that's fine. but taking away already-present options is totally not cool at all.

Ragnarok Online allowed you to have 9 characters. Although it had significantly less customization than Star Wars Galaxies, you could still change your appearance after creation. Also, I don't see how the price of the game has anything to do with whether or not you can change your appearance. Strictly PvP players probably don't care (but I don't see why they would be against something that is technically already implemented,) but this is something that is very important to any role-player (both PvE and PvP alike), who make up at least half of the entire GW population.
