Do you think Guild Wars will be released on time?

With the release date just around the corner, what state do you think the game is in? Do you think it's ready for release? Where are our "storage" containers? What's happened to the skill system? They're going through a rebalancing all the skills? WTFBBQ?

Spooky is never wrong.

And anyways ArenaNet is obviously working hard and making tweaks that's why we saw som differences from each beta. But all MMOs go through this, and they've always said "GW might come out on X or on X" But not it's "Guild Wars will come out on April 28th, 2005" So I believe it will come out then, no questions asked.

The rate things are going there will probably be a few things that aren't 100% done by the time the game is released, IMO. Unless we see a ton of drastic changes that work perfectly in the April beta weekend then I'm would guess that the game will still be a WIP when April 27th rolls around.

I'll bet anyone 100 gp that the account storage system won't be in at release.

well i believe gaile said the account storage probably wont be done, but it will be updated for free. so if you wanna be technically correct not having the storage doesnt mean we didnt get 100% of the promised stuff, because we werent promised the storage on time

I'll take you up on that, but lets make it interesting...say, 1000g?

(please note i am desperate for money to get my guild a cape and hall)

Also i think that the personal storage is already being used by the alpha testers (lucky bastards) and just need fine tuning, it's not like its a big hard thing to make, I guarantee you it will be in the release, if not in the next BWE (not an actualy guarantee)

Unless this knowledge has been provided by Gaile, or Alex, a dev, or any employee of ANet allowed to divulge information to the masses.. there really should be no way for you to know what the alphas are experiencing right now. It's a big iron gate called NDA.

So, I hope this is just a firm opinion.

Well, I haven't really heard much promises from Arenanet other than it will be out by then, so I am fully confident that Guild Wars will come out when they say it will with all of the features that it will have.

It doesn't matter to me whether the game is 100% complete or not, as long as I can start playing on the 27th/28th and I have no problems logging in, I won't be complaining.

I'm always where I'm at, or else I'm nowhere, man.

The game looked really remarkably darn stable to me, the only time I crashed was when the servers (pro'lly between me and Arena.Net) started going loopy. The BWE's are most likely for "Slam" testing the servers, making sure they can handle bazillions of people logging in at once.

The game is done, with the exception of a few tweaks here and there (Fixing the text, adding this, removing that, adjusting the frammistat coding, that sort of thing) it's ready to go as near as I can tell. Which is good, since a month before the set-in-stone release date is a bad time to find a new problem. ^_^

Arenanet will not release an unfinished game!
ArenaNet has pretty much committed to never finishing the game. At least, not for many years. It's part of the reason they hype their streaming updates. The game is going to continually evolve. Don't expect it to be finished until a year or so after the release of Guild Wars II.

Well I believe on launch date we'll have a few happy suprises:

1) I talked to Gaile the other day and she said they were coming up with something to fix the Ranger's Pets. When I suggested commands(sit/follow/attack/retreat)she said it was a good idea and she'd look into it. I think we might have something like that. Or AN will go the easy way and remove the DP on pets.
2) Everyone knows the chat needs fixing, so I think AN has some plans for that.
3) I think we'll see lots of new missions/quests
4) Maybe some skills.

Like we've all heard: the BWE is only about 30~60% of the retail game. But it's a little hard to believe, I'd say more like 75%.

But nevertheless, even if those things above don't happen, Guild Wars will still be great. And remember if Spooky says its coming out, it's coming out. I have no doubt in my mind that Guild Wars will be awesome.

Will we really need the account storage system when on Apr. 27/28? It'll take us a while to get stuff that we actually feel like keeping.

Simple, and a very welcome sign of support. I cannot imagine that Guild Wars will be delayed in any way, shape or form. The wheels are fully in motion, and we're meeting our milestones really nicely. It's wonderful, though, to have people with the kind and wise objectives of "the best game possible" and not ironclad "date-mania" in mind.

Again, there's no delay on the horizon for the final Beta Weekend Event or for the release of Guild Wars.

As long as I can play it they can fix the small stuff later. With their streaming tech you will not even need a patch(I hope )

I can't wait. I NEED MY GW FIX <hands shakeing>

If you have any experienced coders here, then you will know that once the root of the code is in place and working (i.e. the major data structures/functions)... then going to the branches/leaves is a rather simple process. The only problem is if you have a bunch of branches/leaves (as this game would have), you may not be able to address them all if you have a short supply of staff. BUT the game is operable as seen, so branches and leaves aren't needed and can be added later. Forgive me for being so generic, I wanted to get the general idea across and not try to throw out acronyms and seldom seen code analogies.

Just look at windows, sure it's "finished" but really, software is always a work in progress. Look at all the security, etc. updates!

Also, betting on what won't be there, anticipating or looking for what will be wrong with it when it comes out, leaves me to wonder why people who think like that play at all. I mean, if you aren't excited it's almost done and ready, trust the company to deliver what they promised, then why are you here? Why are you commenting negatively about what you don't know? (I am certain someone with alpha access wouldn't be talking trash about GuildWars!) I mean, you might not have noticed but this is a Fan site!

Guild Wars will be completed with all the content it was intended to have. That which it lacks we probably won't notice (it would probably be part of the "end-game" content). A.net wouldn't have released a definate release date if they didn't think they could get it done in time.

*Snerk* Where I- Ah Say, Where I come from that's what "Fan" means! Knowing stuff the creators never knew, theorizing and second guessing to the Nth degree, violently disagreeing with one another 'til the cows come home... all it needs is size 6 costumes on size 22 bodies, autograph tables and obscure cartoons to the wee hours and it's just like home.

Dave III I didn't realize that support was argument, assumption (you call theorizing) and dropping inuendo that is in no way, shape, or form "knowing stuff the creators never knew," was a form of support. However to your credit I have known these ways you suggested of defining a fan to be identical to incompetence, prison populations, and people who physically abuse others, especially alcoholics, and a plethora of others who assume a binary opposition lineal precession of irrational thought processes to facilitate their right of dilusional behaviour. So I stand perfectly corrected and it would appear you represent the GuildWars community entire, even me

Heck, they didn't announce a release date until the game was releasable. If their backs had been against the wall, they could have released the game last month. There would have been bugs and balance issues, but no show-stoppers, nor anything that couldn't be fixed on the fly. I'm sure they'll release on time because at this point, they can release anytime.

Well seeing that they started advertising the release date on the magazines (they had the back cover of the latest CGW - pretty cool I might add), I am pretty sure that they would make the deadline. Whether all the small details are going to make the cut however, is a different story.

Ok, I was trying to be funny through exaggeration and parody. Perhaps a nonsensical, even useless post, but I thought it might elicit a laugh, being (what I thought to be) an obvious example of self mockery.

I apologize for the obvious insult I have inflicted upon you. Thank you for bringing my carelessness to my attention, I shall endeavor to refrain from such gross mis-statements in the future.

I believe Guild Wars will be released on time for preorders and store buyers, but not with all the little dinky features that only one person on Earth cares about.

Even so, those features that missed out on the release date will all be added right after release.
