Henchman levels?

What determines the level of your henchman? Do they have a higher level depending on which town you select them in? Or do they level up with you as you bring them along places? I'm just recently post-searing, but I'm level 9 and all the henchmen in Ascalon are level 3, so they're not all that useful really.

I *think* it depends on the difficulty of the area surrounding that town. For instance, while the henchmen in Ascalon City are level 3, I think that the henchmen in Nolani (???) are level 8.

Yup, Matt is right.

Each town has a certain level that it's henchmen are.
Additionally if you travel to one of those towns with henchmen, those henchies will automatically change to that level.

Elaborate, please. Are you saying that if I get some higher level henchmen, and head back to Ascalon, Ascalon's henchmen will be higher level for me? Is that permanent, or do I need to fetch better henchmen each time I log in? Do I have to physically run the henchmen back, or can I fast travel?

What he meant, when you travel with the high-level henchmen from LA back to Ascalon, upon entering the city of Acscalon your henchies will revert back to Level 3 henchmen, and also you lose the ones that aren't available in this particular town.
