Advice from others on being a Ranger healer

Hi. I have a level 20 ranger currently in Elona's reach working on beginning ascension missions. Finding I could never get a group that wanted, let alone needed a ranger, I respeced over to healing prayers with 10 of my points, keeping 9 in expertise and 11 in marksmanship. This seems to allow me to heal reasonably well, and have done ok on the couple of Elona missions I have attempted, though we were unsuccessful.

Manawise I have 29, but not having played a monk to high levels did not know if this was significantly less than a monk primary would have at 20, and if the healing difference of a monk at 20 with only 10 in healing prayers would make my ranger "healer" significantly less desireable. As you may tell I am having difficulty finding quality groups and wondered if I should just go back to my beast mastery for the extra tank in the group.

Thanks for any tips you may have.

As a rgr/Mo myself I have around 50, I think, mana, of course I have the armor at draknors forge but for healing I only keep up Healing Breeze and Orison of Healing to help the monk if he/she gets in trouble I will have the 10 or 5 Mana to send in for a quick needed heal. Primarily you cant be the main source of healing, it wont happen and it shouldn't. It's still enough to provide that extra kick to prevent someones death tho.

I pride myself on being able to save lives in several ways combing ranger abilities with a few choice shot heals when needed. I have very rarely run out of power, its about management. DPS vs Surviving. You need to learn when to back of the damaging spells and allow your mana regen enough to heal. Add in blinding -throw dirt- and other veratile spells and you can save the day quite regularly.

As a monk and speaking for the other monks I know... We LOVE people like you two! Thank you for helping us heal! It isn't easy! Any assistance we can get in that area is ALWAYS appreciated!

Thanks. I am now carrying healing breeze, orison, along with heal area, rebirth and heal other. Also have throw dirt and distracting shot and added my pet back on with charm and care. I may add back in a coupld of dps attacks replacing the heal area and other if they are significantly less than monks heals. Still learning to be most group helpful as a ranger, since the endgame missions seem to not require rangers. Tons of people looking for warriors, or monks, or elementalists though.

Alot of people see rangers as one of two things. Either completely useless, or just harassment. It can be hard to find groups but keep on chuggin or make your own.

Which is a shame =/ I actually have had no problems finding groups I've accomplished every mission with my ranger pretty quickly. Actually the very last mission rangers are almost more sought after than war's due to Winter. I actually really enjoy my ranger the most out of all my classes, and I have a mes/ele about to ascend, and a monk in lions arch. They are just so versatile, I feel like I can handle almost any situation and pull it off, whereas my alts I rely on others to take care of me or I'm toast.

I play an El/Mo and I usually carry Heal Other, Orison, and Resurrect at the very least. It helps me support our healer with a little backup. If I'm asked to support Alesia though, I carry only 2 fire spells and everything else is healing. Just because your a secondary healer doesn't make you second-class. I've learned a lot about using my Monk skills and it's become very useful to me. I now use my secondary profession just as much as my primary.

I have a Ne/Mo that I use sometimes.

It's a nice touch 'cause, if everyone else is doing their job right, I never run out of energy (yay soul-reaping!). It's amazing how many people can die in Tombs. ;D
