I am just a little curious to know where everybody comes from around here. I have a sordid gaming past. I started playing Flight Sims like Wing Commander and FreeSpace, then moved to RTS like Command & Conquer, and the last game I played was ... I dont know if I should tell you...
...Counter-Strike. AAAAAAAAAAAa.... I know. A CSer. /me hides in shame.
The things that RPGs always did wrong (Stand still... I shoot you, you shoot me, then I shoot you, then you shoot me, then I heal, then you heal, then I shoot you...), in my oppinion, are exactly what GW does right.
So... Where ya'll from?
What did you play before GW?

LOL, now that's a good question right there. Just going off of PC games, then that would be SimCity 3000 Unlimited
Console games though is an entirely different story. I haven't gotten any new games for my Gamecube/PS2/SP/NES/N64 recently, but the last one that I had put any major time into was The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age (which was a pushover if you ask me), and Kingdom Hearts on PS2.

On my computer I've played cs for about 3 years. Recently I played KOTOR 1, Prince of Persia and the first 2 Splinter Cells.
I mainly play console rpgs, though. Faves would be the Chrono Series, Final Fantasy 6 and Shadow Hearts Covenent. Lately I've been playing Devil May Cry 3 and I can say that game kicks my arse.

As far as pc games goes I started playing gemstone 3 in '95 or '96.After 2 AOL bills at $500 dollars each I had to stop.lol.After that I started with EQ for a few years. Then went to Horizons(did not like gameplay).Lineage2 for 6 months but stopped 1 1/2 months before chonicle 2(gind grind grind!).Tried a few other mmorpgs but so far GW has my vote hands down.Of course I play many other pc games such as RTS,FPS,ect..

Oldest games played to newest, timewise:
long time ago: Quake, Duke3d etc....and also, MUDs, oh and Commodore 64
yes I'm old enough to have owned one of those lol. Atari, Nintendo, Super NES, Nintendo 64. And then I stopped console gaming. I liked the feel of PC gaming far more.
Command and Conquer Red Alert 2/Yuris Revenge
Diablo2, then Diablo2 LoD
Counterstrike waaay back 1.3 or before...to 1.6
Counterstrike: Source
Currently, Day of Defeat and then Day of Defeat: Source, and of course, Guild Wars. I dont expect to add any new games anytime soon thats for sure. There have been many other games, but these are the notables.

If we're talking mmorpg's I've played quite a few, but my most recent was World of Warcraft. Unlike a lot of people here, I don't think it was an awful game. I enjoyed it quite a bit, but there was just too much about Guild Wars that was better (not the least of which is the lack of a subscription fee). I'm now in the process of trying to get my friends on WoW to convert to Guild Wars... Not an easy task. They're all huge skeptics.
