Why closed?

I dont really get the motives for ensign and saus. rex closing some of these threads, like the ones about additional races and professions. Do you think we will make AN do something to mess up the game? Do you think we will make people stupid? I'm not yelling or anything, ijust want to know why, since those seem like pretty good topics, and if we dont figure them out now, then when? Even if we dont convince AN to change anything, it is still fun to talk about, and just ponder the possibilities. I mean this place is for having fun right?

If you have any comments on their moderating, take it to PMs. PM Saus or PM Charles. Posting your grievances here just mades you a target for ridicule.

The main reason would be that there are existing threads out there that already discuss the topic. They're not on some big power trip or anything; they're just trying to keep the forums somewhat organized. If you want to start up the discussion, find the original thread and start posting there.
And no, I don't think they're worried about us making any suggestions that would screw up the game...

Bye the bye. Some of these threads are topics that have been covered before, so that may be why they close them. Just a thought.

possibly they could be confusing to a person who is not familiar with GW and might think we will have elves and others as a given for future content
the main thing to remember is that we are being allowed to visit theie virtual house and they have house rules including saying enough and closing a topic even if you find it fascinating
they have done it and it is closed as they say

my thoughts are they deleted those threads because A) theres at least 50 of them and B) this site is a very imformative site and talking about new races in dif expansions isnt a fact and could start rumors of that acctually happining. as i saw over time just in guru, some one mentioned a free area but to go farther you had to pay, in about 2 weeks there was a pot asking if that was true cause he thought it was. another reason is those thread are an arguement area, where people just argue about what they think even tho it may never happen (i admit to joining it in one of them
) these threads do no good to the imformative part of guru and if races are mentioned in like a fan site friday, then i bet you will allowed to have those threads
remember these are just my thoughts and they might be completely wrong but this is why i think rex would shut them down
edit- dang 3 ppl snuck in there posts infront of me

No they talked about closing other threads of the same topic, and even so there is no reason to close it, since it wont make the site worse or anything. If the topic has been covered, that doesnt mean we have read it, so a link to that thread would be nice, and it never hurts to talk about it again, i just dont see why they want to close it, even if they dont agree with what we say in it, they should hop in and argue, instead of closing it and ignoring us.
William of Orange
Not to be mean or anything, but they do have a Search option for the forums. Simply input the keyword "races," and...Presto!! Everything you'd ever want to know about discussions of races on the site.
Edit: Just on a more personal note, I have been absolutely horrendous with my typing abilities today

Perhaps a seperate forum should be started, for discussing possible future additions to the game? Granted, there are a lot of threads involving them and people do need to start searching the forums before they post, but they're still legitimate topics. It just seems a bit strange that we're not allowed to speculate about the future of Guild Wars on a Guild Wars fansite. Since these discussions are both popular and relevant to the game (ArenaNet has said many times that they encourage player feedback and ideas), why not give them a place of their own instead of simply attempting to silence everyone who wants to discuss them?
The description of the Riverside Inn forum simply says "Community Discussion" which can encompass a lot of things. I also read the forum guidelines again and saw nothing about the discussion of possibilities for future additions not being allowed.

And where is the search option? I think I missed that.

Though I admit I found some ideas in your threads interesting, Saus explained why he closed your thread in his post. This is a GW information forum, not a GW daydream forum.
Sure, it is okay to speculate a bit, but you were out there talking about stuff that isn't even remotely in the game yet.
Maybe if you try re-posting your post in the off-topic section of the board they would let it stay open?

In the first chapter you will be able to play characters from the human race. In subsequent chapters of Guild Wars, you may be able to play members of other races. |

Hmm in the off topic section eh? I think ill try that, after i use my newly discovered search option to find out more.
Mainly the thing that got me mad was that they didnt really give much reason for closing, and didnt say anything about where to post it, so i had to assume they didnt lik us talking about it...

I really think a seperate forum for speculation and suggestions concerning Guild Wars' future might be in order. And, perhaps, a redefining of The Riverside Inn's description. As I said above, all it says is "community discussion" and the guidelines don't say anything about speculation not being allowed. People do need to learn to use the search function before posting, but aside from that, I think the reason these threads keep popping up is that they're things people want to talk about. With a seperate forum, those who want to discuss them can do so without getting in everyone else's way, and those who dislike them can avoid them.

So yes, as long as people actually discussed things and didn't make five or six word posts saying they think it's good/it sucks, then go for it.
ThePaper
Ya i think a new forum for speculations and ideas would be good, seeing as they added a whole forum just for posting builds and such...

While I too (at first) thought Saus was ninjaing legitimate threads with intertesting discussions. Now I believe that I know why he is doing it. It's (imo) to keep the discussion focused on the *now* when it really matters. He is probably trying to prevent whiney threads in the future -after release- about what is wrong with Guild Wars. This last month before retail is *the* month to really polish the game, hammer through any issues, and give some last minute insight.
While they will have a "live team" to fix imbalances, add a few features/quests, the majority of it is happening now. There's always time for dreaming about the future, in the future.

Threads like the countless races and classes and mounts threads get nuked because we are attempting to maintain certain quality standards on these forums. We want people to be able to find legitimate discussion of important game issues without the 197th iteration of the 'where are the elves?' thread.
These topics have been beaten to death on every forum out there, and we don't need to go over them yet again. If you think it's that important, make a suggestion in the suggestions thread stickied at the top of this forum.
Peace,

It's disturbing that we have threads patting ourselves on the back for what a mature community we are (http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...ead.php?t=1336) alongside the seemingly endless threads asking for when your favorite item X from other games will be implemented in Guild Wars.
X includes, but is not limited to:
Ninjas, Pirates, Assassins, Mounts, Dual Wielding, Dual Wielding Ninja Assassin Mounts, potions, and of course, different races.
As TP clearly demonstrated, most forum-goers are unaware of or remain willfully ignorant of the "Search" function present in almost every forum. We can do our best to try and educate them on netiquette, but obviously it is something that comes with time. Until then, I appreciate the effort of the moderators trying to keep the forums junk-free and full of easy to find, useful information.
ThePaper
Ya i dont think there is much left to add to the topics, but maybe a forum for threads about stuff that shouldnt be taken seriously by AN (since they actually look through our innane stuff) for all the rambling and ignorant stuff we like to talk about, probably in th outer circle.

as stated prior, if there's already a thread discussing something (especially if it's still on page 1 or 2) the other thread will be closed. These forums can get littered very very fast and we like to keep information readily accessible. If there's 30 threads on the front page about level cap, mounts, why we can't have cool races then no one finds the real meat of discussion here.
Furthermore, if you have questions about why something was done, take it to PM. We don't need them on the forums.
I'm closing this now.

I've used my ultra-secret admin techniques to post what I hope is the final word on the subject. Since, after all, I am, apparently, the subject.
It doesn't matter whether said topics were posted elsewhere or discussed previously. What matters is that they're not welcome here. We, as Charles put it, have standards. We've established these forums not for people to mess around on or to do whatever it is they want but to help encourage and further the discussion of our game. This isn't a place for any old talk. This is a place to come to and talk seriously about Guild Wars. That means we discuss reality here. The game, the reality of the game, and the reality of what the game might be. If you want to make an insane suggestion or turn the game into something it's not, there's a thread started by ANet themseles you can use. Someone there will have the unhappy task of going through all those suggestions, I'm just glad it's not me. But when you want to make those suggestions elsewhere, we hold ourselves and the people who want to use these forums in a bit higher regard than to allow such things to coninue unfettered. We're a growing site and while we might once have just chuckled over something now more drastic measures are called for.
There are many Guild Wars fansites. A large part of what sets us apart is our selectivity. If you don't measure up, you're not welcome here. That holds for posts, for threads, for articles, and even people. We'll never be the largest fansite around by doing things that way but we will be the place to turn to for that serious, reasoned discussion. If you want to post whatever crosses your mind, you're more than welcome to go to OGaming or TGH or GWOnline or KT or RPGStars or VN or any of a dozen other places. Just don't do it here. These are our boards and we established them to be as much a part of our site as anything else. That means if you post here you're being held to the same standards as everything else. If you don't like that, fine, go somewhere else. These are our boards and we're the ones who set the rules here. And rule #1 here is that the crap gets tossed out and the cream rises to the top.
We have our guidelines but at the same time we reserve the right to modify, move, edit, deleted, or close anything we like. We don't have to explain why, although we certainly try to, you should already know why. Not everything can and will get caught. We're only human and we only have so much time to spend on things. But these are our boards and we *will* keep them as free of clutter and junk as possible.
No, not ridicule. Posting your grievances in public makes you a target for the banhammer. And that's precisely what's happened. Anyone else who'd like to ignore the efforts or moderators and administrators to keep things running smoothly and instead make a big fuss about things can rest assured of similar treatment. Especially when that person has been warned repeatedly about it and very nearly been bannished before.
You see, I've always found one simple rule to work very well when dealing with forums : Don't talk about the boards on the boards. Don't do it. It's only going ot upset a moderator and it's never going to be on-topic. Since we're a young site we've established a place for people to give us feedback and corrections but that's not an excuse to run to the boards every time you have a problem. We try to be open and honest here but when threads are locked or posts are deleted, it happens for a reason. And that reason is best handled in private, through PMs or some other means.
So, if you have a problem with what a moderator or myself or anyone else here's done, here's what you do: First, contact the party via PM and try and make sure it's not some sort of gigantic misunderstanding. Be polite as "Hey, why'd you do that?" works a lot better than, "You stupid, what did you do that for?" Second, contact a moderator. They're here to help solve problems, after all. If your problem is with a moderator, contact an admin. If your problem is with an admin, contact another admin. Third, accept that what we say goes. You might not have to like it but you do if you want to keep posting here.
