This happened to me twice now - first time I was selling a rune, and right after clicking "accept" I went to type a "c u around" message, but my trade partner had logged off already - maybe 3 seconds after the trade. I didnt think much of it the first time, but then it happened again just this morning. What are these people doing? Trying to dupe or something? It has to be on purpose. Both times I got my gold for the sale, so if they are trying to rip me off somehow, it hasn't worked yet. Anyone know?

They may have just been trying to get some stuff before they quit the game for the day or whatever. I wouldn't take it personally or anything and I seriously doubt it's a dupe situation simply because I imagine anything having to do with duping was ironed out months ago during the betas.

Edited because my first post didn't make a lot of sense...

Maybe what they traded for they wanted to give to a different character so they swiched off immidiately to transfer it over...but really, if you've got your money, what's the problem?

There is no problem, just curious. I know this was a method of trying to dupe in older games, say Diablo 1. I'm pretty sure GW's hardware/network structure won't allow this, but I was just curious if that's what ppl were trying to do.

It may not be that they logged off, Im not sure how...but there is a hide feature that allows players to be on anon. I was selling something the other day and the guy kept sending me messages but i couldnt return them, then he told me was on "offline status". It was annoying and the player kept trying to modify the trade( i think he was trying to scam me as there is no reason to modify a trade 4 times when no price had been established and the item was only being displayed for him to see, but thats another story) But more than likely Hunter is right in this case ...especially if the trade happened near the storage person. (It seems alot of trading buying and selling generally occur in this area for convience) There is a section on this forum that lists Known scams so you may want to check it out if your worried about being scammed. Just use the sites search feature and type in scam and see what comes up.

Keep in mind that many of the so called "scams" can be avoided with common sense. If you dont like the feel of a trade its simple DONT HIT THE ACCEPT BUTTON.

Huh? I don't think there is any anon feature.

If you press "N" to pull up your friends list, there is a drop down menu in the upper right that allows you to change your status form online to away to offline.

Yea, I've had that happen also, except it said he had his status set to "Busy"

Really irritating.
