Lighting problem

Hey all. My buddy just got the game and is having lighting problems. The game is running way dark compared to my version. We tried everything...new graphics drivers, changing the desktop gamma, changing the 3D settings. Nothing changes the lighting.
The main problem shows up when he goes from the Abby (pre sear) into the Catacombs. When the sun light goes away when ya go underground and the lighting changes to torch and other light sorces, his screen is really really dark. Its like his Video card is not rendering the lighting. He is running a Radeon 9600XT Dual AMD 2400s Samsung ddr 2100 (1.5gig). Any ideas would be mucho appreciated. Thanks.

Same problem here. I don't understand why. My wife can see just fine, but when I'm in the catacombs the only way I can find my way is using the mini-map. The screen is just black...
Outside I see just fine.

My wife, however, can't see the named mobs glow... so I guess it's a trade off until someone figures something out.

I've got an NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200
Wife has an NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 420

If anyone has found a way to fix the glow &/or gamma problem please post.

Thanks-

Hi all,

Are any of you running with LCD screens?

Only reason i ask, i have an LCD and when in dark areas, if i have back lighting in the room, such as Sun coming through the blinds, i have to close the blinds as the sun reflects on the screen which causes the Catacombs etc to look darker than they really are.

Another thing to try is windowing GW and check if the problem happens then. If not, then it could be a screen size refresh rate issue. Try adjusting those settings when in game. Might be worth setting the screen settings to the same as your windows desktop.

If this isn't the case, then maybe it's a driver issue and you would be best to start with the original drivers. Uninstall the drivers, reboot the machine, then run the Driver Cleaner package, from www.guru3d.com, reboot and then install the original drivers you received with your cards.
The reason i say this, sometimes newer drivers can cause problems, and going back to the originals can help determine this, and the cleaner program helps get rid of any older files that may be causing conflicts with newer files.

Give these a go and see what happens.

the 420 MX is in reality a GF2 card that only supports direct x 7 but is COMPATABLE ONLY with direct x 8/9

it will not show the programmable pixel or shader effects

for the dark screen try going in window mode

yea, I've noticed that my ATi9200 All-In-Wonder does make this game look a bit darker. I have to adjust the bghtness on my monitor to almost 100% while i play GW.

You should try software gamma adjustments in your video card's control panel. That has cleared up similar issues for me in the past.
