Is that like a character trainer system? If so, I'd use it to test out skills and such, yes.

way too many programs have keyloggers. Crikey, there's even a warning on the login page for GW. I think that's making everyone very wary.

normally i'd attempt to try a say, a skill point allocater or whatever, for a game. but since theres no monthly fee and your game playing is tied to your registered account, all it takes is 1 keylogger to screw you over from playing. (where as in another mmo you just get the account pw reset, and just deal with some possible item loss or character loss).

even major fansites like gwg, tgh, gwo etc have such tools that they've deemed safe, you never know whats safe or not. hell for all we know some guy wrote his own custom keylogger into the trainer he made, that no spyware, keylog or virus scan could pick up since its nothing they have on file ;o

Well Magelo is online. He does have a program you can download; however, it is not necessary to run Magelo, it only helps keep item updates. Everything else is completely separate from the actual game. In other words, Keylogging would only be a problem if it were a program that was downloaded. Browsers can do it too, but only if the viewer allows it. (clicks yes to install something he/she doesn't know what it is)

Something like Magelo for GW? Hmm.

I don't think the gear-centricity is quite like what you find in EQ - most people aren't going to go look you up to see what you're wearing before taking you on in a PvP setting, and most people in PvE aren't going to care what you're wearing.

On the other hand, being able to keep track of what's available and what you have (without spending time sorting it by hand) would be wonderful.

So yeah, I'd use it if it contained a complete listing of all Runes/Item or Gear Upgrades, Armor Listings, and allowed for updated inventory a la Magelo Update.

This would have been a better question.

If any, what kind of web tool would you like for GW?

Without a doubt, a consolidated listing of all available items with stats and locations or probably targets to obtain them.

Think a la Allahkhazam's item database and Beastiary. A pure marvel, that thing.

Well, Allakhazam searchs/comment system could be built in a few days; however, retreiving the item info would be a bit tougher. A single person (or even a few) would be insanely tough to gather it. The only options:
User-submitted
Downloaded daemon

The daemon would require significant knowledge in C++, C# or java, none of which I have.
Conclusion:
2 programmers create it
users submit item info (reviewed by mods)

Allah's was built almost entirely upon user submissions. The hook was to give credit to the original submittor. You'd be surprised how many people will help out just to have their name as 'the one who reported it first'.

Well, I'll start creating a db search then. I'll create an item and bestiary database.

This is where it gets a little sad. I don't have GW yet (i get paid in 2 weeks). Anyone care to post screenshots of item attributes and mob info?
Here's mob stuff im thinking, tell me if it's right
-they have names, right?
-zones/seemless? location?
-level (min/max)
-screenshot of it
-faction (if any?)
-loot (ties in with item search)
-boss/raid encounter
-quests/missions (quest name only)
-comments
-profession

As for submissions, do you think people would prefer to email info or fill out an online form with all the details?

The problem with GW vs what Allakhazam does is that those games have static items. A Sword of Death has the same stats no matter where and who you get it from. On the other hand, GW is akin to Diablo - the items have random modifiers attached to them. Making a database for EQ was trivial, making one for GW requires a lot more thought.

Ahhh, do weapons in GW have a range however?
Say the damage is 25 on one, 35 on another? 25-35? Someone sends a screenshot with one with 36, then update it?

You'd need a form for submissions. You'd also want a way to validate information. It isn't a quick or easy process, ever. The variants on dropped items would make it hard as well.

Good luck with it.

I'd use it if it showed me what all the 15k armor looked like.

Hmm, well - quoting here:

You would like this, right? Is this a tool that you would find most valuable? Now that I know the items have variant stats, would you still like it if it said 25-35, or an average of 30?

BTW - all submissions would of course be validated by an admin/mod.

Ok, I revamp my question one final time.

I can offer just about anything (i'm not trying to brag either, i'm noob to many programmers). Guild hosting, guild templates, listings, raid formation script for guilds, searches, profiles, etc. Open mindedly, what would everyone want?

I think the best example of what I'd like to see is Allahkazam and Illia's Bestiary.

I don't know if I can be clearer than this, unless you're looking for a functional requirements document -- which I'd be happy to write for you, but understand, I'd have to bill ya. (grin)

Hehe, ok - i'll build a bestiary. Although you did say

"Without a doubt, a consolidated listing of all available items with stats and locations or probably targets to obtain them. "

Edit: BTW - imo, allakhazams bestiary left out quite a bit of info, heh

a even better idea would be to use skills for the resource instead of items that way, if we're looking for a specific skill, we cna just look it up, and go do that related quest.
and thier stats doesn't vary too much like the items- there's supposedly over a million possible variants on items. due to modifier and type

Hmmm, I don't understand that (don't have the game). Since this will be a high-working next week or two, it doesn't matter much any how. I'll be working too much to build a whole lot. I'll get paid and the work load dropped, then I'll get the game, learn a bit & build the skill thing you are talking about (as long as it's reasonable). I'll be building the bestiary search when i get time these next two weeks.

well there's like 200 different basic items, add to that, at least 8 modifiers prefix and suffix turns into 14 in total for the modifiers
you see what I mean

and there's also surprise bonuses on items (gold/purple/blue)

Allah's = Quests, Items, and Gear Database

Illia's = Beastiary information (e.g., zone, location, known drops) with link-back to Allah's for particulars on each, or to the quest that results in them as applicable.

Sorry I wasn't clearer.

Well, illia was part of allakhazam.

The best and most complete database set is really WoW Allakhazam.

Illia's was added after the first year Alla was online. Eventually they bought L.U.C.Y. and incorporated that data as well.

I haven't looked at WoW, but do not at all doubt Alla's ability to organize and present the information. They quickly became the destination of choice for all of our lookups (excepting maps, of course).
