A note to new players Stay out of the arena's
Boris_714
I had several laffs today goin into the arena at old ascalon as a level 9 warrior and watching my team be killed in seconds flat by players using lvl 20 weapons over and over.
Its sad that kiddies haffta run off the new players just to rack their points up and worse is that they belong to guilds that either promote it or allow childish behavior.
BTW Please dont tell me how good they are and I'm not I've been playing RPG's longer than most in here have been alive.

I have yet to really participate in PvP, but to me it sounds like this games type of ganking or naked killing. Yes you may want to be careful and take caution before entering but you'll always have immature losers like that in games that have and promote PvP. Usually these people think they are Gods because they owned people who have nothing when they are stacked out. Example D2 players that used hacked items such as occy rings, etc. I would use a legit sorc and own them after they insulted everyone in the room that they were better than everyone. Then when they get owned they get mad because you found a way to be their hacked/duped out A$$. Nice laugh for everyone but the moron who resorts to cheap PvP. My only suggestion is to be careful and cautious. It may be a problem for PvP in arenas and eventually some resolution may happen. Til then be careful and those who think they are big and bad will end up losing in the long run. When they get to real areas and face people with real skill.
Perishiko ReLLiK
Well, the lvl 10 arena really serves no purpose other then a place to pvp before the "Big boys" area... And lvl "20" items, i assume you mean the armor? really it doesnt matter that much, since the chances of him being placed with more good team members arent that good, and besides... there will more then likely be another good team that will kill them... They dont gain anything out of it, besides **Thinking** that they're good... but then we think about this... **why are they so scared to go to the big boys area?**...

Yah I dunno where you got that you can get the armor from Draknar's Forge.
I mean the armor is customized, you can't transfer it from one character to another.
Learn game mechanics before you make a fool of yourself.

You can effectively reach Draknors at lvl 1 fyi :-/
Here's my solution: Don't bother with arenas till you're ascended. The skill selection early on is just terrible it doesn't give you a real experience anyway.

This kind of thing is the reason why there are so many threads in several forums talking about how much the GW community sucks. In the long run it will be very damaging to the game.

A: You CAN get to droknar's forge at very low level, even level one.
B: You CAN get ahold of weapons that have absolutely no requirements with max damage.
So yes, it is exploitable. Yes, you can be effectively raped and theres nothing you can do about it. These arenas are pathetic, small time fests of morons that think they're 1337. You get no rank from them, just so called bragging rights. Ignore it and go to the HoH and GvG. No one cares about the brighteyes that do this.

how do you get to droknar's forge at lvl 1 without any help from lvl 20?

Even in the level 15 arena, with really crappy items compared to what I could have transferred from another character.. there was very little 'suped' up people from what I notice.
It's not overly noob friendly because you'll have people bitch at you, but it's not like you go in there knowing everyone else is stacked and you're just fodder. I didn't notice that at all.
You equip different skills, you move around some ability points, and you'll do just fine in the 10 or 15. Unless it's changed in.. days.. I can't agree with this at all.
It's a good way to learn a little better communication and coordination that can be used even if you're just a pve'er taking a break.

Sure, on various teams we suffered some blistering defeats, but winning 4 in a row is a rush in itself!

How?
Armor is SPECIFICALLY tailored for a PERSON, not a profession. Notice on your armor it actually says...
"Customized for <insert name here>"
Heh. Looks like someone got owned in the arena .
Keep at it, you will win eventually. Good team >>> Uber items

And yet that's an extreme minority of the players.
You act as if it's every single one.
Look at the map. Look at where Droknar's forge is located. You'd have to walk through an incredible amount of areas to even get there. And as a level 1 that wouldn't be easy, even if you had a lvl 20 group backing you up. For one, at the beginning you'd only have 3 of them.
I did help him. I told him about customized armor didn't I?
Also I suggested he learn game mechanics before he makes out rageous claims.
Edit:
Not really.

The sad truth is there are a**holes on the forum just as there are a**holes in the game. I do believe that there are also a**holes in real life. In all three, there are also plenty of kind, generous people who are willing to lend a hand to those in need. In every case, I ignore the one, and try to be kind and thankful in return to the other.
Regarding exploitation in the arena, it's unfortunate but inevitable. It's also pretty difficult to accomplish and not, in my own experience, all that common. If you're in the ascalon arena and find yourself up against someone with a flaming dragon sword, etc., just switch to a different district and jump on again. I DO think it's valuable to play in the arena at early levels, as it taught me a lot about playing my character with a real team, as opposed to henchies. And while winning is fun, I've learned a lot more from losing. The arena, particularly at the lower levels, is for practice and honing skills, not an end unto itself. At least, I think so.

Why is it that every time somebody has a complaint people have to flame? It is surely possible to get high level weaponry at low level. On another thread a person spoke of getting to Yak's Bend at level 9, levelling as little as possible so they could continue to go to the arena. Surely some people could have guildmates or even friends who would escort them over the mountains to get them some good armor, and weapons don't have to be customized...
What this guy is talking about isn't farfetched, why tear at him? And even if he is wrong, even if he just got owned by people who knew what they were doing, why not just let him vent?

As someone who just used whatever they found around for equipment and weaponry, I found the Ascalon arena to be really easy. I stayed there for about an entire levels worth of experience too. I probably had a 5:1 win:loss ratio. if you are having problems with others using big weapons and armor, move to a different district, I never ran into the problem myself at all, so I have to assume it's not incredibly common.
Caco-Cola
If ya'll think I"m flaming ya'll are WAY too sensitive.
There's worst people out there. I merely told why he's wrong.
Also yes it is possible BUT you'd have to have willing guild mates and these are the MINORITY. an EXTREME MINORITY of hte people in the game.
It does NOT happen every time. If it does, oh well. Some people have no lives and go to those extremes just to give them an extra edge.
Big deal! You lost once, oh well. Get on with the game, it won't affect anything.

I can't really empathize myself... I haven't played Arena. On the subject of sensitivity though, I notice a lot of people here and in most online games are really harsh. People readily insult, threaten, tell them to quit in mid-game, etc... I think we're made to expect it because 90% of the time that's what comes. If I interpreted a constructive post as destructive flamage then my bad. Apologies. Otherwise, I can't really make a sensible comment since I don't have arena experience. :/

Pay no attention to caco cola He has had nothing to say that wasn't negative. I have won and lost in the arena.
In my first post I mentioned having a laff at being slaughtered my teeny bops using exploits. My second post was to tell new players not to be discouraged by seeing a FEW losers in the game trying to ruin it , but to stay and enjoy the game. I play in 2 other clans in different games and we always help new players and make it a point to get rid of cheats or hacks. The future of any game is gettin new players in, not to make the noobs miserable and run them off.

Ironic...
You probably got annihilated by an angry team of good players. I remember fighting in the arena where you have to get more kills than your enemy in 3 minutes? We were 3 players cos one dropped versus 4, and we won 9-1 on kills.
The three of us just raced out, stuck together, went for their jugular and fought like lions for 3 minutes, and ended up absolutly nailing our opponents.
If you step out into the arena, and get owned, it means someone who knew how to really wanted to kill you. They might use good weaponry, but so can you, and thats about the only thing you can get large variations in power in at such low levels.

Regarding the original post:
There are no such things as lvl 20 weapons. There are max damage weapons, which have high skill requirements.
The arena is fun, why would you tell anyone to not bother fighting there. I have fun there whether I win or lose. The arena gives a newbie a good idea of what to expect from pvp and skill usage in the game later on. I suggest all newbies spend some time in the arenas.

How exactly do you plan to reach Draknars Forge at level 1?
I can't even escape pre-searing Ascalon below level 3. I guess a level 20 protection party could take me the rest of the way through the explorable areas, but I'd have to be very careful not to get any exp on the road there.

Well it's possible.
I just loaded up a throw away char to see if you could even get out of Pre-Searing with a level 1.
And you can. But it's somewhat difficult, or more so difficult.
You'd still need a good guild of people willing to twink you up to Droknars though. And it'd be an incredible walk.
Fact remains that this is a minority of people and should in no way prevent new players from going into the arena.
This post has little to no grounds to stand on and is based on the actions of a severe minority.
But hey, it's just like real life isn't it? Affirmative action and all that good stuff.

Hate to say it but if you can't cut it, don't fight there. Giving your characters good items isn't a crime. Fighting in the Arena with these items and skills aren't a crime. Granted, childish behavior can suck, but hey, you can always turn off Local and just keep team/guild chat on (whichever you're using).

But your intial post there is all based from a falsehood. I have attempted several DOZEN times to enter an arena when I was level 13, only to be told by the npc that it is reserved for level 10 and below. So your thread is erroneous from the start, and all arguing is pointless in here.

I think there's a fair bit of exaggerating in this thread, but I had a look in the Ascalon arena with a lvl 8 character I have, and there was a lvl 5 on my team which had full wyvern armor and a dragon sword. Now, he didn't get that on his own.
Twinked characters in the low-level arenas is a fact. Whether their somewhat better armor, perhaps a couple of runes, and much better weapons really make them very uber is another issue - at least my team with the twinkie got owned pretty badly.
Better than average certainly, but not completely unstoppable.

no literally i started laughing outloud when i saw that.
Low level arenas are a joke, how is it sad that when we make a new pve char we get the best gear?
sounds like another level 1-20 pve wa/mo who has a bloated ego, going into battle thinking he cant get killed, so when he does get killed he looks for reasons to complain.
then calls it childish to get good gear on low levels.
yeah whenever i have to do this PvE missions crap, id rather have Decent armor instead of some 5AL crap.

Not once did I break out my firey dragon sword while I was pvp'ing in ascalon arena on my Mo/W.
... mostly because I couldn't meet the sword requirement of 10 with it at that level without sacrificing too much from healing. that and it makes me a nice big glowing target. Same reason I hid my fellblade and stuck with a 12-18 butterfly sword with 6 sword req.
lol
I want to point something out here, and this is after MUCH testing...
With 8 swordsmanship
a 12-18 sword with req. 6
does MORE damage than
a 15-22 sword with req. 9
At least, this is on my Mo/W. Both were customized, and the firey dragon sword had a +11% modifier on it as well.

But! What I can say is that I have been spending a considerable time in the arena with my L9 N/W and having a BLAST! I have gotten almost a full level of experience there, have re-skilled a couple of times, and even got a new weapon because of PvP needs. I think next I will play a bit with reallocating attribute points so I can experiment with using different skill sets.
In GW, as in any PvP game, not every fight is going to be fair. I think that is the nature of PvP. If I spend my time worrying about what weapon another player is using I'm not going to be spending as much time as I could improving my own character. I will not be a better player by avoiding the arenas, nor will I be better by pointing out how another player has an unfair advantage over me. What WILL make me a better player is focusing on my own character, and practice, practice, practice!

You're also complaining a lot about "hacks" and "exploits", which is erroneous because there are no PvP exploits in this game nor any hacks to speak of. So instead of calling everyone else ignorant, maybe you should revise your strategy so you don't get stomped on next time and have to make up stories about why you lost.

Yes, it's cheating. Yes, it sucks. But it is not so widespread or so dire as to justify avoiding the arena, which is a place a lot of people can still have a lot of fun. I'm only at Shiverpeak, which is relatively speaking still a newbie arena, and I have a great time despite the occasional jerk.

You really can't stop super-weaponry unless you retroactively raise the req's for these weapons...I mean, I found a 6-23 Chaos Axe (req 6) for 300 gold - 300, NOT 3,000 - at this site on the Veranti's Sell forum. As for the armor, it probably wouldn't hurt to have req's like level 11 and level 16 on the appropriate armor.
On the other hand, if you grind with any char pre-Searing from 1 -> 7 and quest to 8, you can easily have 1-1.5k + several dyes, and that alone can score you a set of Corwen's armor (the cheaper ones) + a decent weapon on the forum. See also the above paragraph.
