Im not sure if its possable or not already, but if not, heres the idea.
People with guild halls could have a practice camp where they set up there choose selection of style matches between themselves.
1on1 (with a timer) would be nice for guild mates to go mono'a mono with each other.
PvP practice camp.

I agree that guild halls need a scrimmage court, but 1v1 competition is irrelevant to this game and the devs shouldn't waste any time on it.

Why are people going for these 1v1s again? Must I repeat myself? There is NO possible way to 1v1... Why? EVERY BUILD HAS A COUNTER.
Example:
You are a W/Mo and your opponent is a M/N
You beat your opponent so he brings imagined burden and conjure phantasm for the next battle.
You notice he uses hexes and slows you so you bring Smite Hex and Battle Rage
Your opponent notices you you countered his Imagined Burden and Conjure Phantasm and thus takes a different approach and uses Sympathetic Visage, Clumsiness, etc etc.
it'll go on forever until you start back at the beginning.

ok, bard sorry.
Is just an idea.
besides, your example isnt all that dishearting. In group pvps people lose and then build for a counter to thier lost for thier next battle. Its the same thing but on a much smaller scale.
Maybe 2 on 2 then?

Still, non-random arranged arenas would be fairly convenient for testing various things on more than just paper.

It seems to me creating and testing counters against particular builds, like this_barb suggests, might be useful.
Also, we're talking practice. It wouldn't give XP or anything, so I don't see why guildmates could not fight eachother 1 v 1 or 2 v 2 or whatever, or against (your selection of) Henchmen?
Seems both fun and somewhat useful to me.

In some ways, this actually illustrates the benefits of being able to have 1v1 matches within your guild. What you'd actually be doing is learning what various different builds / options you have against a specific profession combo, but in a more controlled environment rather than direct group pvp. True, in any group pvp you have to be aware of the other builds being used within your team, and how they work with one another to achieve your goal ( defeating the other team ), but for example, it's potentially more beneficial to work out / experiment with different pvp builds small scale and in a relaxed environment rather than when you've entered the Tombs, or especially if you're about to enter a gvg match.
Most every single person I know who's done the final step of ascension ( a 1v1 match with your mirror self ) has said that it taught them more about pvp than the majority of arena battles leading up to that point.
Another way I see allowing 1v1 matches as a good thing ~ If you're either the leader of your guild or an officer, you'll likely want to be able to put together a solid team prior to doing gvg matches. This would give you a decent way to work with individual players outside of the 8v8 structure, to work on vairous build ideas, see where their individual strengths are as a player etc.
Adding this sort of option within the guild halls also would have them be more useful overall to the guild, giving another option for pvp, and something engaging to be doing while waiting for the rest of your team to log on, etc ... and since you're able to go to your guild's hall as a lower level character, it would also allow some use of the gh for pvp for those newer members who may not be lvl 20 yet

wow , why are some people so offended, and repulsed by this idea? i think it would be a wonderful addition to the game that wouldnt have to take anything away from those who didnt need it/want it . PvP 1 v 1 , 2 v 1 , or whatever in a guild hall, with no rewards, wouldnt outwardly affect those not interested at all. this_barb and others who are so opposed, wouldnt even notice! whats being suggested isnt a challenge to Anet to make the game strictly PvP 1 v 1 , so NOTHING game core wise would need to change. . . ive yet to hear a reasonable argument to the contrary , thats not "well i dont like it" or "it dosent siute my personal tastes" . Again, i would LOVE to see this option, and i think everybody should email Anet to get on it

It's like they NEED to play devil's advocate.
The pvp battle system is already there, how much work would it be to implement arranged matches? 1v1, 2v2, etc.
I'm not a HUGE pvp'er, but more options is ALWAYS a good thing and only encourages more people to try it. I know I'd LOVE to go in 1v1 against my ranger/monk friend with my monk/warrior and see how we stack up. And I'm sure there'd be a lot of laughing and shit over ventrilo during and after.
It just makes the game more fun. And like someone said in the past, head to head matches DO serve a purpose.
How better to find out how to counter a specific class than to go head to head with it over and over, refining techniques, learning how that class tries to shut you down, etc?
You start to think "Wow, that specific skill hurts how I play a LOT. How can I counter that if I run into that in a GvG? What are the chances of THEM having someone who can do that to me? Maybe I should carry a skill that will counter or remove that."
