Poor Rurik and Althea (Spoilers)

What a sad story!

Did anyone else feel sorry for poor Rurik. He got disowned, lost his gf, died, and came back unwillingly as an undead. What an ignoble end to a noble prince.

What I don't understand is why Rurik and Althea don't get resurrected automatically like the rest of the heroes, including our characters. I mean we have Little Thorn coming back as a henchman...so what's stopping Rurik and Althea. At the very end, it seems we will meet him again in the hall of heroes...but isn't that like when our characters die permanently, out of old age presumably.

Because he is not "Chosen" I guess =/ Either that or because he died in a mission, normally he'd be warped back to the beginning, but since the enemy boss was there, he was able to get his soul and kill him for good? XD

One of those strange plot devices, I guess.

You can ressurect the party but never anyone else.

its because the real story the hero's don't die. They always find ways to surmount the impossibles odds.

How can you sympathize with Rurik? I hated him, what an arrogant, spoiled child. If I'd been Adelbern, I would have banished his ass years ago.

In any case I was overjoyed at the chance to finally off him at the end.

I didn't like his personality much, although I personally agreed with his stance against his father, but I did feel bad when he 'died'.

Although, I felt even worse for my poor character being forced to holler "Noooooooooo!"

I had more respect for him in the beta, when he had the green armor. Now with his old dirty armor and his mustache he looks like the town drunk.

In any case I was overjoyed at the chance to finally off him at the end. Huh? Adelbern is more like the spoiled child. He's the arrogant king who thinks they can take on the Charr and rebuild their kingdom when the it is obvious they will get destroyed by the Charr if they stay in Ascalon. Rurik has been a leader who tries to save his people and charges head on against odds that he knows he cannot win. His voice and the way he talks might be annoying, but nowhere near as annoying as Glint, Ghostly Hero, or...Seer (OMG, worst voice ever!).

But they DO die, otherwise there won't be resurrection shrines all over the place and we wouldn't have all the resurrection spells. The only ones who could not be resurrected were those who succumbed to the White Mantle, but that was not the case with Rurik or Althea.

I would imagine too, that your heros normally are killed by being beaten to death. Whereas Althea was incinerated, and Rurik got his head chopped off. Some things you just can't rebound from At least it's not like a certain RPG where everyone can get ressurected, unless you died in a certain cutscene.....

I felt a little bad for rurik, until I had to lead...er....follow....him into battle. He drug me every step of the way on every mission we entered when i just wanted to explore and find bonuses.

In the end I couldnt help but be glad I wouldnt have to follow after that red, wrinkled, sorry excuse for a cape into battle anymore only to watch him standing around like a dolt while I struggled to keep him alive...I sware he was a war/monk with no clue how to use his healing powers

Well, Rurik died, and got kicked out of the mission. Right now he's trying it again for the upteenth time, and man, he just can't get the hang of it.

Wait till he gets to Assention.

LMAO i remember in Nolani Academy.. Rurik is like... " I have to stop the charr invasion, and my father baffiles (sp?) with doors". This was when Rurik made the dude open the door to get to Rin.

Heh. Yes. Classic cut-scene and story to boot. Young Prince eager to help his people and show himself worthy of his father's faith in him counter-poised by anger with his father for being set in the old ways and too stubborn to let anyone else make a decision.

Interesting mythos, too... cycle of youth overcoming age is one that exists in many places.

I find it quit appropriate for a really old female dragon.

Well when PCs die and there's an enemy necro, he often uses the PCs corpse to create bone minions...surely that's worse than getting beheaded? Besides we didn't actually see Rurik getting beheaded. All I heard was a sickening thud, which I assumed was the axe getting embedded in his head...Undead Rurik still had a head, even if it was skeletal.
