Perhaps Anet is a bit too good at swinging the Nerf Bat

Heh, when your aero ele is doing 88 dmg per lightning orb compared to someone elses 106, it makes quite a bit of difference. When skill is very similar as it is at the top things like that make or break a character.

The only superior runes I, personally, want are Superior Vigor and Superior Absorb... all the others with -75 HP penalty just don't seem worth it, considering money or time spent on them. But that's just one person's opinion.

I have not unlocked a single superior rune in my playtime (Probably around 150 hours); granted, I didn't start truly farming until last night, but this is ridiculous.

Remember the days when ANet said that this game was about having fun, not preparing? It seems those days are simply gone due to the rune grind. At least with skills, there's a location you can go to to train or capture the skill. With runes, you're forced to farm if you want them unlocked. It's more than a bit irritating to have promises broken.

Not sure what anyone's complaining about. I've got ~155 hours on my main (well over 200 accross all my toons) and I've explorerd almost every inch of the entire map. So far I've gotten EXACTLY ZERO major or superior runes. Not even unlocked, let alone salvaged. This is out of a couple gold armors and a couple dozen purple armors. Oddly, I can't recall ever getting a blue armor that didn't have a minor rune in it. I don't really care since I have 4 RP toons (unlocking means nothing to me) and I can farm 10-15 plat an hour easily enough so I can just buy runes. It just seems a bit out of whack. I would prefer to get purple/gold armor far less often, but for it to always have a rune then to get excited about finding one that turns out to have nothing.

Personally I have over 200 hours on my main character and in all that time I've seen only 2 majors and zero superiors. Part of that is that I'm taking my time and enjoying the sightss for the most part. By the time I get to these spots that are getting farmed to death, they have long since been nerfed.

But I was thinking maybe.. just maybe.. this is ANet's way of tellling folks tha this farming business goes against what they want their game to be like.. Perhaps they just want people to play the entire game/map rather than one spot over and over and over again.

I'm not knocking farming at all.. do a little bit of it myself when I'm bored or worn thin from tackling missions or the like.. I just don't make it a lifestyle like some folks do. Just wandering if all these nerfs are ANet's way af keeping you from getting a lot of something for nothing so to speak.
I think you've hit the nail on the head, I was going to post pretty much the same thing. I don't recall if I read it somewhere, or heard about it, but I do believe they have adjusted drops to be more spread out. If area 1 starts dropping plentiful gold items and runes, once you zone and come back, it's drop tables have been adjusted down, and now area 2 has better drops. Once that area gets farmed, area 3 now has more items, and so on. The anti farming idea is one of the changes Anet is trying to make to break out of the traditional mmo mode....

And I'm also with you on the whole farming issue. I rarely do it, doesn't make the game flow properly. I remember hitting the dwarves in Shiverpeak Mountains a couple times because I had finally picked up my first gold item there, and proceded to get a good number of purples. I always seem to get the crappy goldies with low stats, have gotten much better upgrades and runes from purple items. But I only went through those dwarves like 3-4 times, they like to spam shatter enchantment a lot, and being a caster this hurts.....

Then you got extremely lucky. I've probably identified upwards of a THOUSAND rare armors and I only have 7 superior runes unlocked. There have been a lot of repeats of course, and I've probably unlocked all the minors and majors many times over now... But I don't even want to attempt to calculate the odds of getting three superiors in a row. Probaby upwards of one in a thousand or better.

Thinking of the superior rune situation, I have to say that something smells fishy about the whole business.
