Gold Dye?

Can I get gold dye from silver dye + yellow dye?
Epinephrine
One person I know claims that orange+yellow+silver is approximately gold.
egads
You will have to mix a few dyes, but I think it's more complex than that. Last I heard, one silver, one orange and two yellow dyes makes a nice gold.

the yellow/yellow/oramnge/silver thing was posted in the thread linked above. I'm gonna try it now, since I already have a silver and yellows are cheap, compared to other dyes.
I did it, I added orange to silver, then yellow to make a copperish color, then another yellow. the last yellow didn't change the icon color, but it probably has an effect on the real thing. I wonder how much I should sell it for... And it was only 140 x 3, then a silver that I got for free.

Well, here are pics of "gold" dyed armour, the edges are from using 1xorange, 1xyellow and 1xsilver together. Might turn out a little lighter with another yellow in the dye mix, but not too bad.

Does my gold dye look exactly like your's? mine has two yellows instead of one...
I made a couple to sell to make a profit, but I don't think they look gold enough for people to buy them... they just look like bright yellow. I think they'd sell like crazy if they shined like the logo on Epinephrine's cape... but they're just bright yellow

certain armours show the dyes differently. For elementalist armour i find simple yellow + orange works better.
DrSLUGFly
I used silver on my pants and it did nothing I was so disturbed... especially since in my inventory window my pants were completely silver...

yeah I saw a guy that had 15k armor and he said orange/yellow/silver gave him a shiny kinda gold, instead of my bright yellow
now in game I go WTS gold/bright yellow dye, come to *place* to see it on me!
responses:
that's not gold!
you're gay!
that's yellow, im not gay
and so on
Oni No Arashi
My necro was just yellow+orange for a good gold color. cheap too if you're going to buy it, no need for silver.
Korgy
I heard from someone in my guild for a nice gold one you have to take a yellow + silver and an orange +silver, mix those two for a nice gold dye.
Adaria
If anyone has screens of the yellow+silver and orange+silver = yellow mix+orange mix=gold Pics can we see? I just wonder if it would have the same effect.
I tried yellow on my Aeromancer armor, it looked horrid with the female set, it just didn't blend well, I wonder how a yellow+orange mix would work... I'll have to take a try at that next time in game...

Starting to get some very complex combos here, I think we're leaving an important facet out of the mix:
"Gold" is a shiny color, thus is only rationally "Gold" on shiny armors, like Knight's armor. And on Knight's armor, yellow works fine as a gold-like color. The Gold on the back of Tidu's cape up there is shiny; is it possible to get a shine on a not-so-shiny type of armor, like Necro's armor or Monk's armor?

Silver and Yellow actually make the coolest green ever created. True say, saw someone put it on a Reinforced Buckler, smart fellow too, since it's got the most surface area to see the pigment. It made me cry.
Recommendation from my friend Subb Gee : Blurple.
=P
Something that hurts even to think about, do you think that the colour mixing is a simple addition system? Like 1+3+2 = 6 or 3+1+2 = 6, or is it more complex along the lines of the first mix put with another mix make something different from another combination while still using the same colours?

Gaele, you're hurting my head.

Look who's talking, I'm the one who said 1+2+3 = 5

I wonder that myself, I'd think it would be a bit more complex dependant on what color you put in first, but then again, like mixing paint in the real world, start with blue, red or yellow and add in yellow, blue then red in various orders and it all turns out the same nasty color doesn't it?
SO I do wonder if perhaps its merely simple or slightly different dependant on which color you put first.
Also, one thing I'd like to have dyed would be the Canthan Targe, or well a friend would, he dyed it, it didn't work, but with another shield I did it and it just did the center part, its very cool to dye shields since you can actually see the change...

(Black + Yellow) + Orange is true gold.

Got a screenie, Kun? And on what class?
Yukito Kunisaki
Whatever you do, don't mix yellow with dye remover... * *

theres pretty much alot of combos / interpretations w/ dye mixes.
i only hope anet/gw can actually update the dyes and identify each mixed w/ actual names on it so theres no fuss on what's real and what's not.

Anyone tried selling Gold Dye for profit?
john little
it's easier just to farm
When there are numerous 'types' of gold that work differently on various types of armour it's not really worth the hassle of sitting in trade and providing 'after sales service'.

Can anyone confirm the following formula as being for gold armor?
(Yellow+Silver) + (Orange+Silver)
I've yet to see what this yields- it would make for an interesting experiment. Mix yellow with silver to get bright shiny yellow, then mix orange with silver to get birght shiny orange, than mix bright shiny orange with bright shiny yellow to get shiny gold.

Orange is not a base color. Yellow and red make orange. Look at a color wheel...Jeez.

Overall it's just easier to make a sample and test it on a piece of throwaway armour. I keep a cheap 150g set around for such a purpose.
To stay on topic, I've tried the y/s + o/s mix on a Pyromancer set. It's a dusty uh, darkish yellow. I'm sure that translates to gold on Platemail, or some other metallic armour piece. Just doesn't quite work for armour that's very powdery looking to begin with.

good idea about the test armor... maybe I'll do that. can I salvage dyes out with dye remover? what is it used for?
ManadartheHealer
Dye remover simply removes the dye
Malchiel
purple green and yellow gives me gold.

I played around with this. yellow on platemail looks yellowish. yellow+dye remover on CLEAN platemail looks alot more like gold (to me)
I have found that adding a dye to dye remover, then using that mixed dye on an already dyed piece of armor will add the color you mixed with dye remover to the current dyed color
Ayane
Playing around with the Color Mix program (see attached image) the mix that closest resembles gold (imho) is orange + yellow + yellow + blue.
A quick explanation of the image. The top bucket is orange + yellow. The row under that is orange + yellow + the color from the bottom row (far left is orange + yellow + red, next to that is orange + yellow + blue, etc). And the middle row is the same as the top row, but with two yellow instead of one.
Of all these orang-y/yellowish colors it seems that the one right above the blue bucket is the closest to gold.
Of course I have no idea how accurate that program is and I fully realize that applying said colors on armor will probably yield completely different results, but might be an idea to try anyway.
Personally, I think I'll just stick with green armor.

I got what I consider to be gold from mixing 1 Green- 1 Orange- 1 Yellow.
Here it is on my Mesmer's top.

That's a kind of sickly gold.
