Blank Rare Armor...what's the point?

I'm not really frustrated by this, I just think it's sort of dumb.

What's the point of allowing rare armor drops (purple/gold) that have no Rune associated with them once identified?

I mean these items are pretty rare to begin with and even if there is a rune hidden in an unidentified piece of rare armor, there's always a chance you won't succeed in salvaging it...so why the extra layer of disappointment by adding blank rare armor?

I know you can sell those blank rare armors to merchants for more gold than normal armor drops but a Major or Superior Rune is going to get you a lot more on the open market than a couple hundred gold pieces...and that's provided it's not one you can use yourself, which is even more valuable imho.

When you factor in that most rare items are pretty disappointing in stats to begin with it just seems pretty silly for a rare armor drop to yield nothing but a paltry sum of coin.

Anyone else have an opinion on this?

Has a discussion already started about this somewhere that I've missed? If so please direct me to the thread so I can chime in there too.

If you're talking about salvagable items that have either a Purple or Gold coloured name yet they arn't labled as 'unidentified', I too find it annoying. Never quite understood it either...

He/she is talking about Rare (Purple/Gold) that has no special features (no attached Rune). It's a game of random chance. Everything is random... so when you get a loot drop that's rare but no Rune it probably is rare because of the amount of materials you can get off of it.

I guess it's just uncommon armour (uncommon like it's been well cared for by a charr) and rare (like a decayed orr raiment that doesnt stink of undead).

Got one of those last night, Gold Beatmaster Vest... nothing on it, but I nailed 8 steel out of it, which was pretty nice considering. Guess it wasn't THAT bad, a rune would have been much better still.

I had a gold salvage item the other day that ID'd into a Rune of Major Vigor but when I went to salvage it with the expert kit it just gave me crafting items. That pissed me off something fierce.

I got 2 drops, a gold sword of butt kicking(major rune unlocked) and a blue bow of wussyness(minor rune of something). I then procceded to salvage both.

The sword salvaged 3 iron ingots, huh?, the bow salvaged a bow grip of fortitude...

I've gottan a few blanks, they do usually salvage a fair amount of the uncommon materials like steel and such.

Not too bad really.

I think that blank blue/purple/gold armors are a bug.

@Sledge - you can't get runes out of weapons

i did the surmia mission and 2 purple armors dropped. nothing on either of them. in fact, i think all i got out of them was some tanned hide squares and some other crappy common crafting material. it seems to me that if it is any other than white, the item should have something special about, otherwise what is the point.
