Help with Gwen

I'm trying to get the Tapestry Shred from Gwen. I know what to do but nothing works I've given her over a dozen flowers, a cape, a flute and I let her follow me around all the time. Anything else I need to do? I think I had it pretty easy...I replaced her flute and gave her about four flowers and she just handed it over, didn't even need to buy her a cape. I'm not sure why it's different for everyone, a random factor maybe? The only thing that I can suggest is to keep on trying.
