Regarding linking to anything that sells items or currency, yes we know they exist, people may know where but linking to them is not allowed. Its against NCSoft's policy and Arena.Net's fansite program policy so its not allowed.

"Is this game fun?"
Questions like that aren't the proper ones to ask, true.
They, sure, will post up info for the person, but if it keeps up, flame flame burn blah blah. You'll get some people saying "This game sucks because..." then just have the who thread go downhill. Best to stop the boulder at the top then at the bottom.

I understand that, but it does not exactly give a good first impression, and does not make the new members feel very welcome if they just get a generic one sentence reply and a lock from an admin.
Maybe if the admin or mod actually answered the question, and then explained it as you just did..
Obviously, I can't tell you how to do your job (You are doing a good job on this forum, but I myself had noticed this.) but it is merely a suggestion.
Meh..*shrugs and walks away*

Yes I am a jerk
The first post: Simply put, if you have to ask such a question, you are not thinking straight. Yes I sound pompous there, but it is true. This is a fansite - people are here because we love the game and we enjoy it. The post simply showed lack of any research - we do not cater to being at the beck and call of anyone.
The second post: It had to do with the fact that there are multiple posts already like that. Furthermore, there was far too much link dropping. Sure everyone knows about eBay, but not everyone knows you can go to eBay and buy that stuff. Its a common ploy by spammers and scammers do to this stuff - have someone start a thread on real world sales, and then 'casually' drop links to their sales.
You are right - my patience was short - I shall go ahead an expound on my original lock posts.

I doubt most people even know what the Search feature is, I hadn't used vBulletin 3 before this only some wacko phpBB.
But yeah, those thread should be locked, it only causes flames in the end.

I've never seen you post before, and I have to say, this is off topic, but that is one fat penguin.

I've moderated sites before and it's not easy and everybody has bad days. Generally you can't please everyone all the time.
I just think sometimes you have to remember that being a new user of a site is difficult too and that they often require more patience when being dealt with. Locking threads is your perogative - but sometimes it requires a polite explanation of the reasoning (especially if the user is new). Also, remember that forum search-engines are not as clever as Google and they usually do boolean OR matching meaning that searching for anything usually brings up too many matches to read through - or none at all. In other words, sometimes it's not so easy to find out if a topic has been discussed before.
Anyway, keep up the good work and thanks for taking the time to respond

When you delete or edit a post send a PM to that poster stating why it was deleted or edited. Or you can have a macro for your PMs stating: "Any questions please just ask me..." I had a post deleted and for the life of me I do not know why. I never have Flammed or attacked anyone here.
Instead of locking threads that are repeats of previous threads, why not just move them and consolidate all of the posts so we do not lose the train of though within the locked thread?

We have a search button. Instead of having repeated threads created, if people took a bit of time out of their day to use this brand new feature (found at the top of the forum) we wouldn't have to lock all the repeated threads because well, more then likely with the huge amount of them we had at the beginning of the game will have the answer to the question you are asking. Just remember, we aren't paid to keep the place intact. We keep it as safe and as warm and cuddley as possible. If you find you do have a problem with someone or something, private message one of us and we will do our best to give you a hand. |
