But lets say that program you downloaded is malicious virus/trojan. Your hardware firewall is not going to keep that piece of software from calling home. Unless your virus protection catches it first. This is where the software firewall helps you. It monitors both traffic coming in to your computer from the network and connections leaving your computer that you did not consent. Zone alarm Sygate Both of which are great. I use Sygate. And both have free versions for personal use. Don't let Back orifice or Sub7 take advantage of you  .Cheers! |
