Sorry, I just had to be different from the normal threads of late

1. I wrote a note to Anet congratulating them on the game - and received a (non-generic) response!!!

2. For every person who says "Class X sucks!", two other people state "They rock, dude - bring it!"

3. My SO plays

England.

I like this game because...

1.) It's free to play.
2.) My old friends from Star Wars Galaxies play it.
3.) It's a true fantasy setting that isn't a D&D clone.
4.) The graphics and sound/music are stunning.
5.) It's not a pure exp. grind, there's a lot to do.
6.) It's actually balanced.

I could go on and on and on forever.

1. I love epxloration of all the regions. I enjoy finding things like the beach near Gates of Kryta with the shiprecks, the seagulls, all those little touches of ambiance. Lovely visual world to walk in.

2. I love how (more common as of the last update) random high-level monsters pop up in my pathway, and the extreme satisfaction and sense of accomplishment that I get from defeating them. For example, last evening some kind of thing I had never seen in a certain spot appeared, a level 25 executioner with a proper name, surrounded by minions that were nameless executioners. Killing him gave me some cool loot, and I almost leveled again

3. I love all the modular systems put into place for armor, weapons, etc. Dyes are fun, and it is really neat how original some characters look. I like the upgrade things on weapons, and how you can later extract that upgrade with some luck.

4. Believe it or not, I love the game's story and characters. Finding out about Rurik really made me upset. I liked that guy, brazen though he was.

5. As stated in an identical thread I started yesterday, I like being like legolas on my archer and never running out of arrows

6. The sound design in this game is top notch. I am a musician, so sound is more important to me than some people.

7. The rewards for quests are really nice in my opinion.

Your SO?

1. This is a beautiful world. Loaded with beautiful landscapes. A tribute to it being a world: You will never hear me say great graphics, despite how much I talk about how beautiful it is.

2. I've spent more than twice the cost of the game playing gw in cafes and now I'm going to be paying twice the cost of the game to have a friend ship it to me from Canada... it's that addictive!

3. nearly every single complaint eventually turns out to be a matter of perspective.

Next?

I suppose I like that you don't have to do quests with other people if you don't want to.

You get your own, isolated map to explore without interference or complaining.

Everything's all beautiful and imaginative -- even though the game engine itself isn't an amazing feat of technology, they've used what they have with expert dedication.

There's a story there. It's not brilliant, but it's OK.

I think that having 8 skills might not allow for much variety, but it requires you to think strategically when selecting them, which is a good thing.

Also, whoever created the Ranger dance (male or female) deserves a medal.

I quite like the different professions. I think they're all good in their own way, and well-balanced. I'm especially fond of Rangers and Necromancers. Being able to select a second profession lets you play around with the skills of two of them, too.

And finally, I'm quite glad they only opted for 20 levels. Quite frankly, I couldn't be bothered to get much more than that anyway. I have a life outside this game, so I can't dedicate 24/7 to it time-wise. I do wish they'd made it a little harder to go up each level though, by perhaps increasing the number of experience points you need.

I like the feeling of having a party of 8 go up against an army of Grawl... it's very fun.

1) I like the low level cap.

2) I like the balance.

3) I like how there's hundreds of skills, but because you can only use so many at a time, every character seems different.

4) I like the strategy- this game makes me think!

5) I like the graphics at Kryta. It's so beautiful.

6) I love Gwen. She's so adorable.

No grinding!

Sorry, I had to....

But seriously, I'm sick of typical mmo, fight the same mob, at the same camp, for the same 20 hours straight just to hear one 'ding!'. This games FUN!

- A decent story
- Lots of missions and quests that tie into the story
- Character classes and combinations to satisfy a variety of play styles
- Balanced classes, balanced weapon choices. I get to choose what I like, not be forced into a choice because it is what works!
- No Grind!!!
- Choices, I can do missions or gain a whole level at the arena (I did this last night)
- Within a class, tons of options for using attributes so I can focus on a variety of things. Again, due to the balance I can focus on what I want to, not be forced into "the build that works"

GW is a refreshing change from typical MMORPG fare, I love this game and I am thoroughly impressed with the job A.Net has done in bringing us something new and different!

Then you're going to hate endgame rune and elite farming ^^ There is a reason why so many people are complaining about it. It literally takes hundreds of hours to begin to even scratch the surface.

nah ive got two ascended characters one has done every mission and both have all the skills/items I wanted. It's seriously nothing at all. Just get what you need and youre done. Getting everything isn't necessary.

No bugs you say... ever experienced henchmen bugs? Im sure a lot of people have. Im sure you will.

A.I... not really the best there is, could be a lot better. But it's somehow suitable, although sometimes annoying (when you want to retreat battle, Alesia just doesn't want to leave the enemy be ).

v-Lo,
Since this thread is "Why I like this game", rather than "What is wrong with this game" I think you forgot to post what it is you like.

1) Graphics are well done.
2) No monthly fee.
3) Like the different profession, only 8 skills at one time, and max of level 20
4) Most everyone I've joined in quests and missions are friendly and understandable when I've had computer issues (mainly lag).
5) My dad enjoys playing it, so its something we can do together even though I'm a few hundred miles away.

I like the game so much that I bought my sister-in-law, who lives in Arizona, a copy so she can play with my wife (GA).

After coming over from EverQuest II (although still maintaining my account there as well) Guild Wars certainly has the advantage because of how monotonous EQ2 was in leveling. Sure every game has FedEx quests, but meaningless ones to deliver things to people no more than 100 feet away?

Guild Wars (so far, I'm only level 10) is, by far, the best online RPG at keeping my attention, and having played a lot of them (even some that never made it to the market) that's saying alot

I fully aggre with you Beck about the EQ 2 thing.
things I like
#1-free
#2-Fun
#3-good story line ( other MMORPG have basically no stories i mean OMG its a RPG hello ?? ) i have more i just cant think right now

-No offense on EQ2 Ect on other MMORPG's and i hope GW's dosnt go over board if they start this is the idea of crafting i Really dont wht to see this if they add it it will be a negative to me ( EQ 2 went crazy over the crafting thats why i quit)

The Infinite Representation Of Pie And Its Many Brilliances

-Free
-Gorgeous graphics and visual effects
-Sharp sounds that fit the game and enviornment
-Level cap at 20
-Game is challenging even after hitting the level cap
-Hundreds of skills allow for hundreds of combinations---(personalization of characters and strategy)
-Well modeled characters (As in the people you play as are actually proportional, they're not skinny as hell with rectangular arms like loads, and loads of other RPGs)
-Exploring is a blast
-Great atmosphere and style to the game
-Wonderful balance of classes (there is no "uber 1337" build/class combination)
-Battles are intense and nowhere near as repetetive as in other games
-Fighting is a lot of "think on your feet, adapt to what's happening" sort of style. Fast paced and relatively complex. Your actions will affect the entire party/group.
-Good community
-Great economy
-Money/unlocking things is NOT hard to do.
-Always new things and challenges, even after lvl 20...sweet.

Great game, I'm enjoying it a lot.
