does anyone have any helpful tips on how to beat that mission it's getting to the point where i just want to quit playing the game over it when you combine the lack of monks and the arrogance of the the ones who are there i almost always take the hench but that mission is quite impossible with out intellegent cooperation combined with high level players i can usually get to the end of it but trying to convince 5 other people to attack together is a nightmare especially when some people are more concearned with loot than actually finishing the mission

Did it with hench. It is easy as long as you dont get impatient just wait for the 2 minute mark each time you kill a group and it is easy. The hardest part I think are the mage boss in the second area and the healer boss in the last other then that even with hench it should be a breeze if you dont rush it.

Just remember, other than waiting for the 2 min timer, that once you kill the group outside the tent, rush the inside and your first priority should be the priest. Get him out of the way and the team can't be res'd even if you take longer than 2 minutes to kill them all.

or you could use that necro trick......

i think i'll try to do it with hench i have the priest thing down and the sniping but i've just had a problem with PUGs where we either can't find a good monk or we get one who likes to complain because the group isn't doing it his way
I've also had a problem about 75% of the time someone will quit the group for some unknown reason and then others follow but i won't give up on the mission because at the very least i'm making a small fortune off doing this horror of a mission so it isn't all bad but i'm about to go in now and i'll see if i can get through it

It was damn frustrating - I had to try about 30 times with different groups
Once it clicks though it wasnt too bad - i think on our successfull attempt no-one died
On the last mission most groups go for the right most mob first as its the easiest - on my one successful attempt we went straight formward to the left of the the 3 groups - the hardest
To take down the priest all six have to focus you fire on it and it still took a number of minutes
Once thats done the group is really positive as the next two SHOULD then be a formality
Stick with it - I was close to giving up but the sense of achievement when you finally do it was fantastic
One other little tip for when you fight mirror self - when you go in equip yourself with a crap and "non-class" weapon - then when you start fighting switch to your normal weapon and destroy him - I did it in 30 seconds

Don't waste your time killing the devourers and sand giants. Have a warrior ... or even an awesome elementalist/ranger/monk as myself run to the cinimatic.
When you run out for the first thing, go to the left. Slaughter the anti-caster illusionists first. They are annoying for your monk and major damage dealers. Then continue to go down to the Priest's chamers and destroy the 2 illusionists outside. If you're nearly out of time, the champion's and warriors can wait. Kill the priest, then slay the rest.
For the second part, leave the hero behind (whoever he's following needs to talk to him and he'll say "i'll stay here"). Have a ranger with a longbow or something hook as many groups as you can reach, and kill them. Someone who can kill enemies without line of sight is useful here. If you have a necromancer with Necrotic Transversal, have him/her teleport to a corpse and draw enemies for you to slay. When you bring the ghost down to start the mission, rush to the right (if you've cleared it from above like you should have) and kill the priest. Then rush up to the left and do the same.
For the third and final part - and the hardest, use the same tactic to try and kill enemies as above. Without necrotic transversal, you should be able to kill 2 patrols. With it, you can kill a lot more. Rush in and go to the left. Have a ranger with Concussion Shot or a good mesmer shut the monk boss up as you slay the priest... of course... kill what's outside first. Then take a breather and wait for the next res. Next edge over to the middle and kill off whatever's in your way, and then the priest and boss. Again, take a breather. Wait until the next res. Finally, go to the right and kill everything, and then whatever's left in the middle.
As for the other 2 trials... any idiot can do them with henchies...

We get our guildies through this mission in one shot. Thirsty River is actually the easiest of the three in hindsight. The key is, as has been pointed out, after knocking out the door defenders, go right for the priest. Also, wait your two minutes between each.
The priest goes down in like 5 seconds with the right group. The Ranger targets him and poisons him. As the fighters go in and keep him on his butt, the elementalist or two nuke him and the mesmer drops backfire on him.
In the last part we always go for the hardest group on the left, but if you are doing it with a PUG and don't have the benfit of comms, definitely go take out the two easy ones on the right first, because it gives you a second way out in case you have to run and rez.
Also, you've probably figured it out by now, but you can kill about 30% of the enemies without even opening the doors if you have a longbow. Good luck. Everyone has given you good suggestions, but once you finish it, it will all make sense and will even be a good farming run.

Please help me Yes...all the lack of monks...You should see how much monk there is around Ascalon, but they're all low levels...
People just don't like to help low level monks to level up, that's why there's just little number of high level monks out there...
Another thing, a lot of people has been under estimating the power of other classes, the most underrated class is ranger, than it's mesmer. The trueth is, the last mission where you have to beat the lich, you won't be able to do it without a mesmer.
And again with the monk, usually you only need one human monk, if he's smart enough to use heal party and heal area. And monk henchmen works just fine, except all the areas where there are murssats.

Me and one other Guild member came to this mission together and finished it in our first run at it with henchpeople. We did exactly what Edge said about taking out the first groupd of three then charged the priest, and waiting the two minutes is key. Of course before we went in we sat outside for a significant amount of time just observing the area and the mob routes, and we got a little lucky because we waited so long that other teams started attacking each other. The first time we were like *#$@ we best get in there, the second time it happened we just waited, and team A killed all of team B....hehehe. So P&P (patience and planning) do save time in the end

Yikes... on that point, and off topic for a slight moment, I don't go back to Ascalon and help folks anymore, save for just handing out weapons I don't need, because having helped some guildies through it, it was too easy. To me it was more fun when I was a noob like everyone else and struggled through those Charr missions. It prepped me for the mountains, which prepped me for Kryta, which prepped me for desert, which prepped me for the endgame. Hopefully that prepped me for the temple of ages... we'll see.
Back on topic, yeah Lek, it works well and is doable with only yourself and henchmen. Like I said, it's a great farming run for gold and the occasional purple drop. The hardest thing to do with henchmen, however, is to wait five seconds after killing the initial 3 before charging the priest. Maybe only I need to wait since I'm pure healing, with a dom secondary, but Orion (Mage Henchman) needs that time to recharge his nuke and energy. 1 mississippi, 2 mississippi...

Well, I have a level 18 almost 19 monk, but I can't even GET to Thirsty River

I have been trying for about the past 24 hours with pickup groups and we always get owned. Tried with henchmen and they always want to stop and fight. I managed to get to Destiny's Gorge last night but still have to run the rest of the way.

I've seen a lot of pickup groups try using the first teleport and going that route, instead just head south and pick off the hydra groups one by one. You'll need to go east at one point to get around a large cliff/dune then it's a quick jog south again and the Thirsty River warp point. Hope that helps, even in a small way.
