Ranger farming build, w00t!
Kiru Malkav
Ok, I ascended with a ranger, and I really can't be bothered creating a character just to farm, so.... I made a ranger that could make money. Now this build can do the groups off perdition rock fairly easily, it takes about a minute or so to do each group of 3-4, which isn't ideal but so far it's the best that I can come up with.
Expertise 10+3
Wilderness 12+1
Marksmanship 8+1
Poison Arrow (Elite)
Ignite Arrows (Don't use)
Quickening Zephyr (Takes a tank for me and lures mobs into the traps)
Lightning Reflexes (Allows me to heal and setup traps)
Whirling Defense (See above)
Barbed Trap (Pretty much a key skill)
Dust Trap (Use when available)
Troll Unguent (Heal!)
Basically what I do is use the traps, then lay down the zephyr, ignite arrows and poison arrow the first 2-3 mobs before running past the zephyr. They then usually try and attack the zephyr, so I set up another lot of traps and keep the poison going. Then I run away and keep my defenses up while I lay more traps, more poison, and wait for them to keel over and die.
The main problem with this is it takes some time to set up, some time for it to kill them, and alot of room to manuever. Ignite arrows is just for a bit of extra damage, but it could be easily substituted for probably anything else.
I started out taking White Mantle, then moved onto Minotaurs, and finaly Hydra's and Golems, and they all seem to do the same thing, which is nice.
Anyway, there ya go!

If you don't use Ignite Arrows, why don't you have Flame Trap instead?
Kiru Malkav
Ummm, good question! lol! I think I'll probably add that and see how it goes.
Desecration Station
just go with a full trapper set up. get a nice shortbow and throw oath shot in there. i farm insane with my trapper

I agree, the only really viable farming ranger build I have found is the trapper.
Aurixis
except getting hit once foils your trap
and i find that even with 2 mobs hitting me there's a good chance that they're going to get some sort of attack through my whirling/reflexes
but that's just me

but that's just me Plant all 3 traps BEFORE you aggro enemies. Pull the enemies while standing atop your traps. Hit Whirling Defense just as they close, traps go off, all (hopefully) the enemies are now blind, bleeding, burning and crippled. Spam a couple barrages point blank, then retreat a bit and plant another barbed trap (to keep them limping around and bleeding), barrage 'em to keep 'em interested, retreat some more and plant another dust trap to blind 'em all again, possibly getting another flametrap off too.
I love traps... nothing like watching a bunch of bastard giants limping around bleeding, crippled, burning, and blind. Switch barrage for poison and that's another DOT you can stack on there.

I have a slight problem in that sometimes even when you're attacking them, some of the monsters get bored and wander off to die outside of my xp range
At the moment I now have
Poison Arrow (Elite)
Quickening Zephyr
Lightning Reflexes
Whirling Defense
Flame Trap
Barbed Trap
Dust Trap
Troll Unguent
And yeah the crippled, bleeding, burning, blind, poisoned, creatures chasing you around is funny. I find that if you use the spirit summoning they usually attack the spirit, which gives you enough time to lay down a second lot of traps. They then rush you, and you retreat again.
Laying traps in combat can be tricky even with the stances, but if you can get dust in then you're laughing. Also crippled people chasing you gives you time to plant more traps.

Argh. You guys make it sound so easy. I can't do it if my life depended on it. I'm using pretty much the same setup, execpt for Lightning Reflexes since I don't have it (and a skill point to buy it). Swaped Poison Arrow and LR for Marksman's Wager and Tiger's Fury.
My attributes are pretty much the same, albiet alittle lower since I don't have the Runes to do so (I want to unlock them, so I don't want to buy them!).
I'm thinking my problem is not having LR since "special" attacks can get through WD, thus interrupting my attempt to place another set of traps.
What I get out of all of this is to cast Quickening Zephyr then a set of traps (I use Barbed Trap then Dust Trap), then my own mockup of Marksman's Wager and Tiger's Fury to get my engery back and cast Flame Trap. Once the mob reaches me I run away. Now the trouble arises. By the time I get ready to start another set of trabs, the mob as already taken down the spirt! They can take it down with 2 blows (even by a Devourer!). So now they're on me and I can't cast anymore traps. Now I'm dead and very frustrated!
Any advice would help

Ya i've been trying this like HH and they seem to take the spirit down quick. Any tips for that?
And again what is the exact order of the skill setup? I'm finding i'm running out of energy to set my second traps up after using a few poison arrows.
My other problem is how are you guys getting to the Executioners in the Sanctum mission with all those fire imps in the way. How do you get around them?
Thanks for the help!

whre you get poison arrows?
Kiru Malkav
Poison arrow can be found in witman's folly east of Droknar's Forge. The guy was in the north west of that area when I got it.
I haven't tried the fire imps and executioners, so I'm not sure about that. The problem with them destroying the spirit quickly seems like your attributes aren't high enough. Same deal with running out of energy. Because of the dust trap you should have about 9 seconds of them not being able to destroy the spirit, and because of the spike trap they should take a while to hobble to your position.
Hope that helps.

Thanks again.
I made some adjustments and things are going better. Just takes a few runs to learn how to work the skills.
Lastly, where are you hunting the Minotaurs, Hydra's, and Golems?

superior trapper will make video for the hell of it
